PRI Talk

I received a great question this past week from a 2023 athlete.  I try to answer that question as best as I can.  There are a lot of variables in recruiting, especially now, so please do your best to make sure that you are letting coaches know HOW interested you are in their program.  

When should you ask the scholarship question?  I'll answer this and give you some insight into the grey that are the NCAA rules.  

Today I discuss why we need to go beyond thinking about a "list" of schools needs.  

This week I am talking about only a FEW of the recruiting issues going on right now.  Tackling the dead period, social media and the idea that something difficult is still difficult.  

Today on the show I talk about the feathers I apparently ruffled when it came to my blog post about athletes not really touching 10', that NOW is a great time to work on your film and the opportunities out there for athletes right now gets smaller and smaller each day.  

Today on the podcast I've got Head Volleyball Coach for Lovejoy High School, Ryan Mitchell.  A back-to-back State Champion, Ryan and I talked about what the season looked like under the umbrella of COVID.  Unfortunately I did remove the last 15 minutes or so from our conversation because of the lag, but I will plan on having Ryan on again in the near future to talk more.  Huge thanks to him for being on in the midst of his busy schedule!   

In this present recruiting climate, take advantage of the interest you are getting from each school, even though it might not be your first choice.  

In announcement yesterday afternoon, Triple Crown said they were postponing their tournament until May.  This is a HUGE bummer for all of those athletes that were hoping to get evaluated next month and certainly does not start the club volleyball season on a positive trend.  

This is good thing for these schools and the WAC conference.  It will be interested to see how the Southland responds, if they respond at all.  Also, send more emails! :) 

We've got lots to talk about with the new year!  First off, talking a little bit about the transfer "issues" and what you need to do about recruiting when it comes to livestreams this club season.

Erin is a former D1 athlete at Baylor, coach and currently has 2 daughters playing at the college and high school level.

Kim is a former collegiate athlete and coach at the D1 level.  

Sherri was a collegiate volleyball athlete at the D1 level and has been a elite club coach for over a decade.  She has coached, trained and mentored countless collegiate athletes.  

Kellen played volleyball collegiately and was also a Head Coach for 8 years. 

With the dead period being extended through April 15th, there is going to be a lot that we can to do help guide everyone through the process and improve how we communicate with athletes and coaches.  My plan is to hash a lot of that out over the next several weeks and work with college coaches and athletes to insure we are on the same page leading into the END (hopefully) of the dead period.  

Signing Day is always an awesome day and I really have enjoyed celebrating with athletes over the last couple of years!  Today I answer some signing day questions and a question about playing in the P5.   

Well, we hoped that we wouldn't be in this position, but it looks like we are.  Today we are discussing the unfortunate events that will be extending beyond Jan 1, 2021.

Just 6 weeks after cutting 7 athletic programs, W&M is un-cutting 3 of them; all women's teams.  I will talk about what went wrong and why this all happened. 

This week I am expressing my feelings behind lying or being disingenuous during the recruiting process.  Schedules are also getting finalized for the Spring, woohoo! 

Today I wanted to give everyone a little update on some of the things going on with the new eligibility rules and also give you some of my least favorite recruiting questions.  

Joe and I finish our conversation on the current state of volleyball right now.  We get a little bit off topic, but that's okay!  Huge thanks to Joe for being on with me.  I appreciate everything he does and is doing for the sport of volleyball.

I chatted this week with Lindsey, Head Volleyball Coach at Plano High School, about some of the differences between high school and college volleyball and what this fall was going to look like. 

The NCAA grants everyone an extra year of eligibility, so what does that look like recruiting wise over the next couple of years?

We need to do more on our end to encourage young athletes to watch college volleyball.  

Wow!  A lot has happened just in the last couple days.  Lets break down the recruiting impact this could all have moving forward shall we?

PAC12 players are threatening to boycott the Fall season and why you need to follow the National Parks on social media.  

Today we are talking about what is going to happen moving forward with the Fall season and why the NCAA's decision on fall sports could be huge.  Also, starting a new segment called "Off The Court" where I am going to talk about one topic, non-volleyball related that I think is interesting and we just HAD to talk about Joe Kelly.  

Today on the show we are talking about potential challenges that lay ahead and my buddy Hugh Hernesman from Jacksonville Skyline and I chat a little bit about the AAU Tournament down in Florida last weekend.  

Today on the show I talk about Recruiting Tiers and I plead with my D2 coaching friends.  

Today on the show we are talking about all of the programs being cut and what the fall may or may not look like.  

Talking about NIL today!  It's certainly an interesting topic and one that isn't going away for college athletes.  One school, at least, is taking a proactive approach.  

Asking this question - who was more prepared for June 15th?  I wanted to give as much feedback and information as possible, as well as looking at this notion of "slowing things down" in recruiting.  

Today is June 15th a very exciting day for the 2022 class.  This morning we are talking about finding our VALUE as a person and discussing the possibility that athletes will NOT be able to take visits this fall season.
