Diary of a Mad Black Man

Diary of a Mad Black Man

Diary of a Mad Black Man is about my life, mental health and anything I find interesting enough to write about in my diary. This podcast is therapeutic, part of my self care routine, and my way of ending the stigma surrounding mental health - especially within the black community. I believe the story of our greatest downfall is the story of our greatest breakthrough. Sharing how we persevered through adversity becomes a survival guide, filled with inspiration and encouragement for someone else. This diary entry is one of the few from around this time that I did not have to do much editing to. I was very happy with the space that I was in. I was on an extreme high and I was filled with joy. To meet so many amazing people through social media, restored my faith in humanity and social media itself.  I hope you will begin to use social media for good and be intentional with how it is utilized. It has become a place of refuge at times and connected me to people I would have never met. Am I Bipolar? After listening to a live video that was very powerful live on IG, I revisiting this idea of what type of mental illness I may be challenged with. However, in present day, I am confident knowing I am the healthiest mentally than I have ever been in my adult life. I find solitude in my journey with people who have supported me to this point. The idea that I am not sure what "kind of illiness" does not bother me anymore. I may not be 100% certain what I have had in the past, but today I am healthy and I am great. I do not focus on being diagnosed with a particular illness because I have found wellness. I focus on my wellness and maintaining it, through therapy and support from my tribe and community. Healing is possible. Living AND thriving with mental illness is possible. If I can do it, so can you. I know I can because I have. I found my strength from someone else, just like I hope you do, in this podcast, this diary entry.. -- Instagram + Facebook + Twitter: @DIARYOFAMBM Email: blake@theblackpodcastclub.com Follow My Podcast Business on IG + FB: @theblackpodcastclub www.theblackpodcastclub.com This episode is sponsored by Canna Comforts | CC produces the finest, all-natural products on earth.... Isolated with Depression, Anxiety and Loneliness

July 20th 2020 is a day I was having sucidal ideation. Triggered, I jumped on the mic to let it out. This happened in the day time, of that day. It started with watching someone I admire, Amanda Seals, be vulnerable and share her journey with mental health. It was so moving to see someone I view as a strong pillar of the black community, be vulnerable and share where she was.

It was a relief and trigger all at once. I had the confidence to know I could continue to be vulnerable and heal, yet the reality of life hit me as well.

This was the beginning of a very rough day, a day that I am choose to share with the world. Suicide and mental illness is real and we need to raise awareness and implement new strategies for people to cope, heal and manage their mental health.

DE 94: Suicidal, Angry, Sexually Frustrated, Tired of Fighting [July 12, 2020]
28 perc 4. évad 4. rész Blake Explicit

I woke up battling suicidal ideation on July 12th, 2020. Some of the reasons for why I was feeling the way I was is because I missed teaching, I was struggling financially, almost homeless living in a hotel. This was in the midst of the height of the pandemic, I was, STILL AM, tired of racism and white supremacy; I can now say I think I was struggling with sex addiction and how I was behaving with people.

This diary entry is one fo the first episodes I recorded like this. There are several parts that I took out due to how dark my thoughts became during the recording. It's explicit, and kind of hard to listen to.

However, I've overcome this. I've survived these thoughts and I am no longer here. I am thankful to God, the unvierse, my therapist, and myself. Because I have done the work! I have been focused on healing, managing my self care routine, and unapologetically loving myself.

DE 90: The ReBirth and Evolution of Blake [Season 4 Premier]
31 perc 4. évad 1. rész Blake Explicit

The Birth and Evolution of Blake was recorded in 2021, the last recording for what I call my first Pod-Album. All 10 episodes of this season are out now, kinda like the release of an album.

In this first diary entry, I start this season with where I am currently. I bring you up into my present day life, with updates since the coming recordings. Most of this season was recorded in July of 2020, beginning after I started seeing a therapist. These introspective diary entries are the reality of where I once was mentally. Struggling with depressions, anxiety, and suicidal ideation, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, riots, corruption and a chaotic government, I began the series Podcasting for Mental Health.

Since the conception of this idea, I started to do the daily work of healing; mental, physically and spiritually. I began to seek therapy twice a week and document my journey. These diary entries are from the beginning of this journey. A snapshot into my life battling mental illness. A reflection of my mental health growth.

I hope these episodes bring awareness to mental health and helped to ease the challenges of those facing mental health issues. I hope it works to end the stigma in the black community, especially for black men, and sparks the flame of healing in the minds of those who listen. I am not an expert on mental health, but I am an expert of my mental health journey. I am a mental health advocate who aims to grow and evolve. Healing is not a destination, it a journey. This is a small part of my journey during 2020.

DE 89: The Death and Rebirth of Blake [Season 3 Finale]
24 perc 3. évad 39. rész Blake Explicit

Wow, I am mesmerized that I am writing this. Diary entry 89, Season 3 Finale of Diary of a Mad Black Man. There is a lot to say but I will keep it short for now. If you've been following my podcast since I started, you know the growth, you've experienced it with me. Over the past year in 2020, we have all be challenged by the uncontrollable mental anguish we have all experienced. As my audience, you know my mental anguish didn't begin this year, it was amplified.

I am taking a break on the podcast for a while. I am not sure when I will return to this but I can assure you, I will be back. This diary entry came after a difficult conversation I had and probably should not have had. However, it happened. The message here is that I need to rest. I need to take some more time to heal and process what I have created. It has been a beautiful journey overall and it is because of this safe space I created for myself, I am still alive today.

My audience, you, know why I do this. It's not for the downloads, plays, money or "clout" that can potentially be gained. This is what healing looks like, for me. This is my truth. I am speaking my truth, living my truth and healing. Its a journey, not a destination. Its a process that will probably be forever ongoing.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for listening, supporting and engaging with me. I will be back in 2021 with Season 4 of my podcast. Bigger, better, and more healed than I am today. Making money, seeking downloads, or plays is not the motive of this podcast. Healing is. I hope for peace, prosperity, and an abundance of blessings to you and yours. Until we meet again, sometime in 2021, take care and stay blessed and be safe.

Our relationship is the way it because of how she has treated me as an adult. I now navigate life believing I will never have the relationship with my family that I desire.

As I continue to accept this, it doesn't necessarily make things easier to believe. I just lean more on those who allow me to be part of their life. As I embrace and love myself on a deeper level, I have been unpacking the internalized homophobia that I carry.  Part of the reason for this is because of the homophobic environment I grew up in. Mom wasn't the only one...

In this diary entry, I invite Andy on the podcast to do a part 2 of WTF! Me and Andy connected in the podcast world and created an episode together WTF Ep 189 on Real Men Feel, towards to beginning of June.  Prior to that, we were on a panel together to discuss being black in America but - Andy is a white man.

However, as I've grown to know him, I have found him to be an ally in this movement towards black liberation, equality and freedom. We came together because since these episodes, he has used his platform to push the culture forward and educate himself on his own white privilege and use it for good.

This episode is heavy and it is not enough. However, it is one step forward in the right direction to bring change to the society we currently live in. I appreciate Andy for the work his is doing, being honest, vulnerable and transparent. We are all in this together.

Welcome to another great episode of Diary of a Mad Black Man. This diary entry is episode 2 of the friendship and adulting series. Wendy, who at the time of this recording, was my friend living in The Netherlands! We met through a group chat for The Roommates podcast. Through this group chat, and by the grace of God, we have built a bond that transcends the Atlantic Ocean and this world.

Wendy is another friend of mine, who even before I considered her a friend, was there for me during my mental health challenges. Specifically after I became ill and almost died, she was there for me the best she could be, from the other side of the world. We go in depth into that during this episode and more. She drops many gems about friendship and how to maintain a balance between friendship and adulting. Wendy is my friend from The Netherlands and no distance between us will ever change that. She is also moving MUCH closer very soon. Ill save the details on that for when she's back on the podcast as a guest. Stay tuned until then and enjoy this episode.

In this episode, I sit down with my best friend from high school, @spurs.x0 to talk about our friendship. We take it all the way back to how we met to where we are now. **Here is Part 2! Be sure you check out Part 1 of this episode for the full understanding.*

In this weeks diary entry, it is coming in two parts. A teacher friend in Florida went though this experience of having a student bring a gun in the building. By the grace of God, no one was hurt and it ended peacefully.

With the current climate, I sat on this episode for a couple months. I believe now is the time to release this and my hope is that it sparks healthy dialogue amongst parents, teachers and communities across this country. Followed by action to make our education conducive to the current times we are living in and the future. There is no one size fits all "FIX," to prevent situations similar to this. However, we CAN implement policies, procedures and redirect our efforts in a different direction. What we are currently doing is not working. Throw the whole system away. My heart aches for the young boy who did this because he is battling an internal battle; traumatized & lost. This resulted in him believe his decision was ok...

So much to unpack from this episode, I had to split it up into a two parts. The second half of this episode will release in two days on 8/27. As usual, I hope you enjoy and learn something from this.

Wednesday, July 22nd, around 11 o'clock pm, I sat down to record a diary entry about racism and reflect on a recent interview I saw on The Breakfast Club. It prompted me to do some light research and find this article from the New York Times. There no one size fits all answer. One conversation is not enough to unpack racism and white supremacy.

Racism and white supremacy run deep into the laws and institutions of our society. This was a day where racism was heavy on my mind and I had to unpack some of what is going on for the sake of my own mental health. I plan to continue to speak about racism and white supremacy on my podcast so be sure you subscribe for future episodes.

Deserving Mercy is a book about a black college student who is charged with a serious crime while casually hanging out with friends in his dorm. A story I can relate to; one that is important to understand, especially during these trying times.

This is the final episode of the podcasting and collaborating series. This particular episode is not necessarily about podcasting, but more focused on the book, Deserving Mercy. It was an honor to meet Ludrick, read his book and have him on as a guest to discuss more about it.

In this episode, I discuss resources and information I found about the corona virus pandemic. This episode was recorded before the city of Atlanta or Georgia implemented any lockdown measures, yet panic was in the air. While recording this episode, I was not aware of the mental and emotional turmoil I was quickly about to be dealing while living during a global pandemic. It had not become real to me at this point in time.

At the time of recording,, there were 7,038 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States and 97 deaths.

At the time of recording, there were 197 confirmed cases in the state of Georgia and 3 deaths.

The harsh reality of living during a global pandemic had not hit me yet. I try to make light of it and provide resources to stay informed. This is the beginning of the Coronavirus Quarantine Series. A series about life during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

DE 16: I fell off, but I got back up.
49 perc 1. évad 16. rész Blake Explicit

I am back! This weeks episode is a "catch-up" episode. As you may know, I missed a week in publishing my podcast due to just being overwhelmed with life. From my mental health not being in the best place, the death of a legend, Kobe Bryant, to family issues and challenges, it has been overwhelming these past few weeks.  However, I found a way to pull myself together and get back to regularly scheduled programming. I am very thankful for this opportunity to podcast and I am grateful for each and every listener I have. The support means more than I can express in words at this time. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoy this weeks episode. I am not going anywhere but the small break was necessary.

I reference a breakfast club interview in my pod fo this week that has many gems with T.D. Jakes. Click the link if you would like to check that out.

Again, thank you for tuning in. The growth, transparency, and vulnerability are high in this weeks episode. As as usual, I keep it 100.

DE 15: A social Media Cleanse
47 perc 1. évad 15. rész Blake

For about 10 days, I had to cleanse myself of social media. I took time away from my person IG and was more intentional with how I used social media. Although I did not completely step away, I primarily used my time focused on building my podcast, and the social platforms I use for my pod. It has been a great journey and I have learned a lot from it. I will be more intentional in 2020 and this is just one step in that direction. This episodes shares what this journey has been like. Making room for my healing and clearing my mind is key to leveling up in 2020 and beyond.

However one thing will still remain which is this podcast. Find me on Instagram and Twitter - @diaryofambm
I will remain active on these platforms, for the sake of my podcast.

Thanks for tuning in!

Living with depression and anxiety is one of the reasons I created this podcast. It has been a safe space to release in a healthy, positive way. In this episode, I discuss mental health and the stigma in the black community with Taraji P. Henson. I found a great video of her sharing her experiences and thoughts that I felt was perfect for an episode. I've been challenged by mental health in my life and I will continue to speak about it, raise awareness in efforts to end the stigma. If you or anyone you know needs help, it is out there. Go find it. This episode if my continuation to he elevation of our consciousness, awareness for mental health, and to end the stigma in the black community.

DE 3: A Message to my listeners...
44 perc 1. évad 3. rész Blake
I've been feeling uneasy about this podcasting thing lately. I believe its TOO early in the game to be feeling like this but I am still sharing my truth. In this entry, I talk a little about the stigma surrounding mental health and my struggles with sharing. As well as express how I am dealing with creating this platform and what I feel obligated to do, the responsibility that comes with it, and how I am overcoming these challenges. Overall, this is my episode to express that there will never be malicious intent behind anything I share or express. At the same time, I cannot consume myself with the fears of what people may think or feel about what I share.  People are going to think what they want, I have no control over that. What I do have control over is my intentions and purpose which I vow to always be pure and honest. Moreover, hoping to be uplifting, inspiring, and motivating. I hope you enjoy!  Below is the article I referenced in this diary entry.   From The Black Youth Project - http://blackyouthproject.com/the-conditioning-that-fuels-the-mental-health-epidemic-for-black-men-and-how-to-stop-it/  --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/diaryofamadblackman/message
