The Rouse Simmons, or “The Christmas Tree Ship,” was a 205-ton, three-masted schooner. In 1912, the beloved ship met an untimely demise when it sank to the bottom of Lake Michigan. Today, locals have reported seeing the ghost of the ship and its crew sailing the waters it used to call home.

While one of the most beautiful Renaissance-era buildings in Denmark, a legacy of violence still echoes through Voergaard Manor’s halls. Blood stains appear on floors even after relentless scrubbing, and the ghost of its former lady has been seen wandering the bowels of the building.

Constructed in the 19th Century, Captain Tony's Saloon is a popular haunt for many residents of the Florida Keys. Built on top of old grave sites and around an old hanging tree, this bar is known to contain several ghosts—the most famous residing in the women's bathroom.

Opened in 1420, the Forbidden City served as the imperial Chinese palace for nearly 500 years. Its halls had seen all manner of horrific things, and many ghosts of the ancients still haunt it to this day.

Originally built in 1350, Loftus Hall has since become the most haunted house in all of Ireland. Stories involve the ghost of an insane woman and the presence of the devil himself.

As a major center for illegal booze during Prohibition, the Moss Beach Distillery was said to be haunted by the Lady in Blue who tragically died in an automobile accident nearby. Since then, strange happenings have occurred at the venue. Many have experienced objects moving on their own, lights turning off, or unexpected  taps on the shoulders when in unoccupied rooms. 

Over 100 years ago during construction of Finca Sanatorio Duran, a worker and a nun had an argument over his immoral behavior. Neither was seen alive again. Months later, the nun’s body was unearthed, her ears stuffed in her mouth. Patients said her ghost would appear over their beds and whisper encouragement before vanishing into the mist.

Her spirit is said to have remained in the courthouse, where workers can feel her presence and even smell her burning hair. Many claim she meddles with everyday life at the courthouse by locking doors and fiddling with office equipment. 

In the shadow of Mt. Fuji, the Sea of Trees marked the end for many struggling souls. But even before it gained its grisly modern reputation, the forest was said to be haunted. Restless spirits and demons wait in the trees; some ghosts save visitors from a dark end--others are said to eat them. No matter what you believe, the "suicide forest" grows pure horror. 

A young girl named Sallie was brought here one night in the early 1900s by her mother. The doctor said young Sallie’s appendix was about to burst and he needed to operate on her immediately. But, he didn’t give her enough anesthetic and she woke up during the procedure. Believing she was being tortured, Sallie died on the operating table. Now she haunts the halls of this home, often reenacting the fear she felt that night. 

The Hotel Monte Vista in Flagstaff, Arizona opened on New Year’s Day in 1927. A bellboy in a red coat tells you about the hotel’s haunted history. The bar is haunted by the ghost of the bank robber who died there. In room 305, the ghost of an old woman rocks in a rocking chair. In room 220, strips of human flesh hangs occasionally hang from the chandelier. In fact, the bellboy you’re talking to has been dead for 70 years. 

The mansion and plantation homes at Rose Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica are haunted. Visitors report seeing the ghost of plantation owner Annie Palmer who rode her horse in the middle of the night, whipping any slaves she passed by. Others have seen The Whooping Boy, who hunted down any slaves who tried to escape. But all of the restless spirits who lurk in the shadows waiting, are ready to lure you into the darkness. 

Bodie, California is an abandoned gold rush town that was founded in 1859 by W.S. Bodey. When Bodey and his gold-mining partner walked to the next town, they got caught in a blizzard. Bodey collapsed and his partner left him to die. Bodey’s body wasn’t found until the spring thaw, but his partner said that every night that winter, Bodey’s frozen corpse returned, tapping against the window asking to be let inside. 

In the mid 13th century, Sibylle de La Guerche had spent numerous nights wandering the halls of Château de Châteaubriant, hoping her husband Geoffroy IV would return from war. Upon the shock of seeing him return, she died on the spot. Many say Sibylle still wanders the Château’s halls searching for the spirit of her husband. 

About one mile off of Highway 78 near Tallapoosa, Georgia is a mysterious winding creek that follows a forest of oak trees. After many twists and turns, the endless creek dives deep into a canyon. But if you visit, be on the lookout for those lost souls left behind. Because not everybody who visits gets to leave the Devil’s Kitchen. ...

The Myrtles Plantation located in St. Francisville, Louisiana has seen its fair share of death. Visitors claim to have seen figures in old-fashioned clothing in the hallway mirror. Others have heard phantom footsteps going up the stairs. But if you’re really lucky, you may get a photo of “The Ghost Girl” who runs around the plantation. 

Atop a dormant volcano and overlooking the storied capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh Castle has been home to Scottish royalty since the twelfth century. But it’s also been the scene of many gruesome deaths. And sometimes, if the air is still, you can hear the cries of victims from centuries past.

The Unterzell Monastery in Bavaria, Germany was built on the ruins of a convent where numerous mysterious incidents occurred. In the mid 1700s, Sister Cecilia Pistorini of Kloster Unterzell suffered from visions and had hysteric attacks. She was convinced she was possessed by Satan. But after the nuns gathered for an exorcism, it only got worse... 

Six children and two adults were murdered in what is now called the Villisca Axe Murder House.
