Answering What is the Church? Through Ephesians Chapter 1.

As disciples of Jesus, we can be a church that thinks like Seattle or we can be a church that thinks biblically. We can respond to the world and its framework for reality or the the Gospel of grace, the reality of Jesus, the forgiveness of sins, and life through Him. Only Jesus leads to life.

When we are awake to the reality of Jesus, we see the world though the lens of faith.

In Christ, God has not only saved us and set us apart for Himself, but He has provided us with everything we need to fulfill His purpose for us: to love Him above all things and to love others by proclaiming and displaying the truth of the Gospel with our whole lives.

To have faith in Jesus is to be awake to reality. Faith is not a subjective personal choice to believe in something illogical. Faith is the understanding, in Jesus, of what reality actual is.

Jesus isn't just a hope, He is our only hope. Through Jesus and His work we are restored to God and have full, unfettered access to Him, now and forever.

In warning us against wandering away from Jesus and reminding us of our need to be faithful to the truth, the author of Hebrews encourages us to trust in God's faithfulness and love toward us in Jesus, and invites us to respond to this amazing grace by loving God and people.

After proclaiming the greatness of Jesus for five chapters, the author of Hebrews urges the church to grow up into the reality of Jesus. This growth is not about benchmarks, objectives, or agendas. Instead, it is about believing Jesus and pursuing, following, and growing in Him, empowered by the grace of God.

We often find ourselves setting new goals, working towards them, and either happily succeeding or miserably failing them. If we were to approach the text with this mentality, then we would be missing that Jesus has already accomplished it all. Instead, let us work, serve, and fight because we know who Jesus is.

Just as Mary rejoices in God's promises through the Messiah coming, the hope would be that we too would live knowing God delivers.

God reaches down to us, and His love for His children is not dependent on us. We can forget the idea that we have our life together or that there would even be a need to have your life together before the Creator. These truths give us joy to not just invite Jesus into our plans but depend on Him as we follow His lead.

Keeping Christ in Christmas has everything to do with the Christian making much of Jesus in their daily life and specifically in this season.

The reality of Jesus and the truth of the Gospel is not something to be put on the scales with other ideas, but when we see the glory of the Son it displaces anything that we might put on the scales. The glory of Jesus shows us He is not one of many options, but He is the only option.

Jesus is more wonderful, more beautiful, and more satisfying than anything, ever. The rest offered through the cross is the only true rest in the universe, and He did everything for me to enter into it. At the same time, our life as Christians is about fighting the lies of this world and pressing on towards Jesus. We live in tension between our fight and His rest that only His cross can ultimately resolve for us.

Jesus has revealed Himself in history at the perfect time to bring humans into God's perfect rest. The warning we receive in Hebrews is that today if you hear the voice of the Spirit, and the good news of the Gospel of Jesus hear it, believe it, and rest in it.

The author of Hebrews warns us to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit and not to grow hard to His voice. The point is not simply that we are people who do not have hard hearts, but that we are people with soft hearts in the hand of God, and that we know our need for Jesus and respond to Him with our whole lives.

At the core of our life in the Gospel is understanding who Jesus is and what He is doing in the world and in our lives. It is in understanding who Jesus is, are we able to hold fast our confidence and hope in Him.

Jesus, Himself, came into human history, God Himself became a man. Jesus Christ the God of the universe entered into creation to save sinners to life.

God is faithful to fulfill all His promises. When we don't believe in God's promises we begin to wish we were back to our old nature. However, Jesus accomplished all, and the only thing we need to do is receive His transforming grace. Through that we obey as a response to His grace, rather than in an effort to just appease Him.

From redemption to sanctification, all of it is God's idea. As fallen humans we would never conjure up anything like God's salvation plan, but through it we find peace and joy in Jesus. We're now in God's family due to the wrath Jesus absorbed on the cross. As a result, we are also apart of the Church family.

Often times we are quick to emphasize and highlight the "safe" sections in scripture because we want people to know Jesus. As a result, we shy away from addressing the hardest and darkest issues of the cross, sin, and suffering. However, the hardest, darkest, and sickest places of our soul is what needs to be revealed and as Jesus' light is shone in those areas He is faithful to redeem the brokenness, and we are then able to experience life.

Jesus made us free. That core belief empowers the Church. Our walk as a Jesus follower does not involve new methods or knowledge but instead focus on what we already heard about the goodness of Christ's Gospel. Pastor Andrew preaches on going back to the basics - just Jesus - not positive mindsets or anything done or achieved by the believer on their own.

Hebrews speaks well about angels. People often hold an overly positive or negative position on the topic. However, God created all things good, but, out of love for a gracious Father, all creation must remain under the exalted place reserved for Christ. In this sermon, Pastor Andrew applies the same biblical truth to all aspects of life.

God has spoken in history, but the clearest way He revealed Himself is through His Son. The author of Hebrews will remind struggling Christians that, the reality of God's Gospel through Jesus is the basis for all Christian life. Pastor Andrew Pack will explore the centrality of Jesus in God's self disclosure.

Our sin was paid for, and we need to live in response to Jesus' love. We were alienated from Christ but through the cross have been reconciled to Him. In our daily lives these truths manifest themselves in us taking ourselves out of God's spot, and leaving Him in His holy place of Lord.

Colossians 1:17 does not provide methods but instead reveals who Jesus is, Christ's incarnation, our Lord's gospel, and our life in Him. This is transforming and allows us to joyfully live in response to God's work through Christ.

If Jesus has done it all, what am I supposed to do?

Through Psalm 22, we can see the cross; it's beauty and its ugliness side by side. Jesus was forsaken for sin, in order to finnish the work that made His people sons and daughters of God.

Every human being wonders what the point of life is. The Psalms show us the power of understanding that life is about Jesus.

When we as humans try to change our lives, we do it from the outside in. Jesus Changes us from the inside out. New Spirit, new heart, new life.
