During our church service hiatus, we went into the archives and found some albums from 20+ years ago.  We thought we would share some of the music over the next few weeks.  This features Cindy Henninger singing "Hungry Heart."

Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, Christ the Servant has decided to suspend Sunday Worship Services and Midweek Lenten Services through April 1.

This is the audio of our worship service on the second Sunday of Lent, March 8, 2020, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Bellingham, Washington.

On the second Sunday of Lent, the Gospel story comes from John, chapter 3, verses 1-17.  A curious Pharisee visits Jesus by night to learn from the teacher his friends reject.  Jesus speaks to him about life in the Spirit and the kingdom of God.

On this first Sunday of Lent, the Gospel story comes from Matthew, chapter 4, verses 1-11.  In this reading, Jesus experiences anew the temptations that Israel faced in the wilderness.  As the Son of God, he endures the testing of the evil one.

On this Transfiguration Sunday, the Gospel comes from Matthew, chapter 17, verses 1-9.    Shortly before he enters Jerusalem, where he will be crucified, Jesus is revealed to his disciples in a mountaintop experience of divine glory called the transfiguration.

The gospel on the sixth Sunday of Epiphany comes from the book of Matthew, chapter five, verses 21-37.  For the third week in a row, the gospel reading is from the Sermon on the Mount, where Jesus exhorts his followers to embrace standards of righteousness that exceed legal requirements and traditional expectations.

The gospel on the fifth Sunday of Epiphany comes from the book of Matthew, chapter five, verses 13-20.  Jesus continues his Sermon on the Mount by encouraging his followers to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world, doing good works and keeping God’s commandments.

On the fourth Sunday of Epiphany, the gospel comes from the 5th chapter of the book of Matthew, verses 1-12.  Jesus opens his Sermon on the Mount by naming those who are blessed in the reign of God.

Pastor Eric ponders the 4th chapter of the book of Matthew, as Jesus calls four fishermen to be his first disciples.

On the second Sunday of Epiphany, Pastor Eric speaks on the first chapter of the Gospel of John, verses 29 to 42.  John the Baptist’s witness to Jesus initiates a chain of testimony as his disciples begin to share with others what they have found.

Today’s reading comes from the third chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, verses 13 to 17.  Before Jesus begins his ministry, he is baptized by John, touched by the Spirit, and identified publicly as God’s child.

Happy New Year.  On Epiphany Sunday, Pastor Eric preaches on the story of the Magi as told in the Gospel of Matthew.
