We start with the theme behind the book of Judges and then narrow in on our need for Jesus being Lord in every area of our life.

Too often we are like Adam and Eve and choose to hide our brokenness and shame rather than address it. However- there is no healing when we are fake. Once we choose to be real we open ourselves up to God’s healing and our growth.

The new year is a time for reflection and setting goals for the upcoming year. However, if we don’t go through the pain of discipline- we set ourselves up for the pain of regret. Discipline comes down to choosing what I want most over what I want now.

Living for the approval of people often keep us from the purposes of God. Looking at Moses- we’ll see how choosing God’s purpose over world popularity frees us to experience something of a far greater value.

A lack of financial margin is not only foolish, but increases our stress and relational tension. The problem with our financial issues is not an income problem, but a lifestyle and spiritual problem. When we learn to put God first in our finances and create financial margin we end up getting more of what matters most.

Prioritizing Margin, Mark 1. When it comes to your time- margin won’t come naturally. We must fight to prioritize what matters most, and intentionally schedule margin into our lives.

Luke 10. Culturally- we are busier than we’ve ever been- and that busyness has resulted in more stress and less actual fulfillment. The peace we long for wont’ be found in doing more- it’s found in creating margin in our life. And for people constantly pressured to keep doing more- margin has to be chosen and fought for.

Not only does the gospel save us from the penalty and power of sin, but it saves us from the presence of sin, pointing to Jesus return and setting up his Kingdom on earth. Pointing to our future- heaven is not being teleported out of our everyday existence, it’s our everyday existence being transformed by God- leaving us with hope.

This week we’ll look at how the gospel saves us from the power of sin. We’ll wrestle with the mistaken belief that to change we just have to try harder. There is no doubt that effort is required, but true and lasting change is rooted in believing better the truths of the gospel.

Over the next three weeks, we’lll look at three aspects regarding the power of the gospel. This first week we’ll look at how the gospel saves us from the penalty of sin, taking our sin-filled resume and exchanging it for Christ’s perfect resume.

Even though the gospel is of first importance, there are many false gospels that people (included bible-believing Christians) fall into believing. Today, we’ll look at the difference between the gospel and religion, and our tendency to attempt to either pretend or perform instead of standing on the gospel.

As an introduction to a “Gospel Centered Life”, we’ll look at why the apostle Paul described the gospel as of “first importance” and give us a basic understanding of what the gospel is.

Wisdom doesn’t just pour down on you like the rain, it must be sought after, something to be discovered. However once it’s found, there are tremendous blessings.

Not many things cause as much stress and anxiety than our finances. Yet God’s grace has given us tremendous wisdom to lead us to financial freedom.

Whether we call it peer pressure or not, the reality of life is we often look and act like the people we hang out with. Proverbs offers some strong warnings about the joining the wicked, and some encouragement in surrounding ourselves with good, faithful friends.

Religion is often summarized by a list of do’s and don’ts- a list that if we’re honest none of us can fulfill. Yet when Jesus came- He didn’t do away with all the rules- He fulfilled them. As Christians- our standing before God isn’t in our keeping of the law, but in Christ’s fulfillment.

Whether we know it or not- everyone has influence. You either are a good influence or a bad influence. Since people far from God matter greatly to God, Jesus reminds Christians that our influence should be used for good to point people back to a life changing relationship with God. Key idea: Christians using our influence for the Kingdom.

In the opening of the greatest sermon ever, Jesus begins by contrasting Christianity from religion, identifying that Christianity is completely counter-cultural from the religious status quo. Key idea: It’s who you are, not what you do.
