The Jews were taken into captivity for the second and final time in Babylonia in 586 BC. Just eleven years earlier, Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, had taken the first captives from Jerusalem. Now, the Temple of Solomon had been completely destroyed and the rest of the Jews were taken captive by such an evil King. These Jews needed a word from the Lord - a word of HOPE and ENCOURAGEMENT. Though the 8th Century Prophet, Isaiah, God records His THREE PROMISES made to God's People held in captivity. The people of Isaiah's 8th Century BC were about to face some of their greatest persecution - at the hands of the King of Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar. Though over 100 years in the future, the only thing that would alter God's judgment would be the repentance of God's people. The folks had forsaken God and had turned to crafting their own idols. Matter of fact, some of these idols were so small that they were packing up in the "trunks" to take with them!! Isaiah, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, wanted the people of God to understand that God in CHANGELESS! He is the same past, present and future! Unlike their idols that rot over time, God would never leave them or forsake them. Dr. Randy shares his continuing series about Isaiah with a sermon entitled, "Four Absolute Attributes of God," from Isaiah 46:4. With the pen if the prophet Isaiah, God wrote such words of comfort to the people of God in captivity in Babylon through King Nebuchadnezzar. He was giving God's message to God's people. Such action was not a possibility! IT WAS A FACT! Despite such horror of exile in Babylon, God would never forsake His people. Though Babylon was sent as judgement on their sin and disobedience, God's tender word was COMFORT. The word in Hebrew means just to take a deep breath as you relax in the fact that God is Sovereign - He is in complete control! Oh, how we need to hear that message in these days of the 21st Century! Our Lord promises that all tears will be wiped away! This verse is found in Revelation 21:4. But, in the 8th Century B.C., the major prophet, Isaiah, FORTHTOLD this very fact of the incredible hope of this happening to the people of Judah! WOW! Can you imagine? Almost 800 years before the coming of Jesus Christ to this earth, Isaiah FORTHTOLD his coming and what He would do! The Messiah would, one day, wipe away all the tears from our eyes - the pain of exile from Babylon would one day be "wiped away" FOREVER! Rev. Jim Wallace begins this message with Ken Medema's song, "Moses." Following Jim's solo our Pastor, Dr. Randy Cheek, shares the sermon entitled, "What is That in Your Hand?" God confronts Moses at the Burning Bush with this question in Exodus 4:2. Moses replies, "It's just a rod." God was trying to show Moses something very important despite Moses' attempts to persuade God to get someone else to do the work of freeing God's people from their bondage in Egypt. God was about to take a wood stick and cause it to be used of Him for the work of Moses in freeing God's people from Pharaoh's hand. What about you? What is that in your hand? Pontius Pilate, the fifth Roma Procurator/Governor of Judea, was in charge of keeping the peace and making sure Roman Law was enforced, was now in Jerusalem. As believers you and I are the "LIGHT" of the world! What a compliment and attribute God has given to His children! We are to "...walk as children of Light!" And, Paul does not leave such discipleship up to chance. He tells the church at Ephesus just how to accomplish this task in the life of the believer! Those promises made to this man of God as he led God's people are the attributes of a Godly Dad today. I was so fortunate to have a Godly, earthly Dad. He taught me these promises made to Joshua. Immanuel IS come! Hope IS Born! Over 700 years before Christ, the 8th Century Prophet of Hope, Isaiah, proclaimed this immortal prophecy! The times of the 8th Century were so much like today - war, unrest - God's people had turned their backs on God! Under the evil ruler of Judah, Ahaz, the people followed his ungodly leadership and completely turned away from Yahweh. But, God would never let them go. He would sent HOPE - a very sign from God Himself - Immanuel is come!! Listen to our Senior Pastor, Dr. Randy M. Today was a very unique and beautiful time of worship at Olive Springs. As we continue to do God's Dream at Olive Springs we must first approach God, through prayer, with a clean heart - a heart full of confession and repentance. Human life is God's Sacred Creation. We have allowed over 55 million babies to be aborted during the 40 years since the decision in this country to legalize abortion. Lottie Moon, the 4'3" tall feisty lady from Virginia gave her life to minister to the Chinese People. The Birth of Jesus Christ was the INCARNATION of God from Heaven to Earth in the form of a little, helpless baby in the feeding trough of Bethlehem. Job spent a long time on the ash dump - the place where the ashes from the cooking and heating in the homes were dumped. Through his three "friends," the young person, Elihu, and the questions from God, this man learned the power and soverignty of God in repentant way. You and I, as Job, must spend our time of the "ash dump" and repent as well. We have put God in our "box!" And, once again, our Lord shows us that He will NOT be contained in our human understand of Holy God! May your heart be encouraged as you listen to this message by our pastor, Dr. Randy Cheek.

Oftentimes we are guilty of placing God in the "box" we have constructed for Him. We will do His Will as long as we never let God out of His "box!" Noah was confronted with making sure God would not be confined to man's box. Society had grown to anti-God in every way. Noah was the only righteous man alive. If we are going to be God's Ambassador on this earth, we are going to have to do things GOD'S WAY including dealing with evil all around us!

We have lost the true emphasis on the biblical consequence of our sin. We have used the terms, "little white lie," a "half-truth," "nobody will ever know." The 21st Century simply doesn't use the word "sin" anymore. Have many time have you heard a secular television station ever refer to the "sin" of someone! Close to three million Israelties now camped on the East side of the Jordan River and in three days, Joshua had organized them to lead them across! But, did they really believe God, through His POWER, would get them across? What about you? When you face impossible situations, do you really believe God will act?
