“Our habits are the result of our experience. This is why they can be often different for men and women because men and women tend to have somewhat different experiences in the workplace. This becomes more true as they move to a higher level.”

“In my 30 years of working with women, I find them tending to put value on intrinsic satisfaction in their job and less on extrinsic satisfaction.”

“They [women] will be less oriented to stick with a job that has very high position and high financial reward if they feel that the intrinsic factors are not there.”

“Millenials understand that work is much more consuming and demanding than it used to be.”

“Give people a moment to get used to you, and don’t always try to swoop in.”

“Every single great career is built on three legs: expertise, visibility, and connection.”

“In the US, women use an average of 20,000 words a day and men use an average of 7 words a day.”

Redefining the Top 1%
1 perc 100. rész

Welcome to this introductory episode of Redefining the Top 1%. If you've been a follower of the show for some time, you'll know that the original title was The Top 1%. Though I still love that title and everything that it represents, over the course of time, it's become evident to me that the mission of this show and all the work that I'm doing is to create a community of current and aspiring leaders who are role models as well as high performers.

The mission is to help leaders acquire and master the skills and behaviors necessary to protect guide and mentor the members of their own tribe. You see, each individual on your team, in your family, or within your larger sphere of influence has made a decision to tie themselves to your wagon and put their faith in you for their guidance and ultimately their security. That's an honor and a privilege, and it's not something to be taken for granted.

As leaders, you and I have the chance to make incredible things happen for those we shepherd both inside and outside our organizations. So in the coming episodes, we have world-renowned guests like Seth Godin, Jay Abraham, Marshall Goldsmith, Chester Elton, and many more bringing us their best advice about what it takes to lead with excellence and impact in the admittedly complex modern world.

Stay tuned, stay engaged, and subscribe to the show so that together we can continue to Redefine the Top 1%.

Reasons to Believe with Hugh Ross of Reasons.org
41 perc 100. rész

Science and Faith. These are two things that most people believe are incompatible. But, today, we are going to dive into these and show you that science and biblical faith are allies, not enemies. I am very pleased to welcome astronomer and best-selling author, Dr. Hugh Ross.

Dr. Ross travels the globe speaking on the compatibility of advancing scientific discoveries with the timeless truths of Christianity. While in college, Hugh committed himself to faith in Jesus Christ. After his study of big bang cosmology convinced him of a Creator's existence, curiosity led him to test religious "holy books" for scientific and historical accuracy. Only the Bible passed the test, therefore persuading him of Christianity's validity. Later, Hugh was surprised to discover how many people believed or disbelieved in Christ without checking the evidence. Prompted by family, friends, and colleagues, he founded Reasons to Believe in 1986, to bring scientific evidence for Christianity to light.

More than 25 years later, Hugh leads a team of scholars who keep tabs on the frontiers of research with the goal of demonstrating that sound reason and scientific findings - including the very latest discoveries - consistently support rather than erode, confidence in the biblical God.

Listen and gain more reasons to believe and strengthen your faith! This is a very special episode and I, myself, have learned a lot from it. Dr. Ross shared one of the greatest analogies I have heard in my life. Tune in to find out more!

The Blessings We've Been Given and The Blessings We Should Give Away
2 perc 99. rész

Welcome to episode #109 of The Top One Percent podcast. "When you pray, do not ask for more blessings; ask for more wisdom so that you can see how to use the blessings you already have." That's not my quote. I'm not sure whose quote it is, but I thought it was too good not to share. Success by nature is something that must be given away in order to keep it.

Those who help the greatest number of other people to achieve success are themselves the most successful. The founders of the United States recognize this and wrote it into the constitution to allow the highest amount of personal autonomy and reward those who are willing to take the initiative. It seems that what has happened, though, is that we have become prisoners of our own abundance.

Somehow over time, we become indifferent and complacent about the privilege of living in a country such as ours. The federal government has been overly involved in our finances, and we've become complacent. The privilege and gift of being able to earn an overwhelming amount of success from personal effort, creative vision, and determination have been hugely underestimated, and the consequences have been catastrophic.

We still have the right to choose our own occupations. We still have the right to vote for those. We wish to represent us in office, and we still have the right to worship the God we believe in, in the manner we choose. It's our role as leaders to guide our teams and organizations, to understand the power of purpose and personal investment in the future of their own creation.

You and I can make a real difference by empowering those. We lead to value, autonomy, possibility, and personal power. We owe them our very best. And that starts with recognizing the opportunities we've been blessed with.

Becoming a Digital Nomad with Johannes Voelkner
29 perc 74. rész

If you could live or work anywhere, where would it be? Way back in 2007, Tim Ferriss popularized the digital nomad lifestyle through his book, the Four Hour Work Week. It helped to spawn a revolution of people freeing themselves from traditional work. One example is Johannes Voelkner.

Johannes Voelkner is the Founder of the Nomad Cruise, where location independent entrepreneurs and digital nomads come together for a business conference on a cruise boat twice a year. After becoming a Digital Nomad in 2010, it was two years into that journey when Johannes realized that he definitely missed having like-minded people around him. So he took action and started to build the community that ultimately led to one of the largest digital nomad Facebook groups and the accidental creation of Nomad Cruise, which now attracts nearly 500 participants on each voyage and is one of the largest ‘workation’ events in the world.  He is also the founder of Homebase Global, a travel community for remote workers.

Hands-On Leadership Strategies from a 24-Year Military Veteran | Douglas Ward
47 perc 68. rész

It is never a mistake to start developing your leadership qualities as early as now. If you want to grow, by any measure, you’ll need to step up as a leader at some point.

Today’s episode is all about leadership and who better to discuss it with than a retired military veteran with 24 years of distinguished service, Douglas Ward. During his time, he held numerous leadership roles to include instructor and manager of over 500 personnel. Additionally, Douglas was the Troop Chief for a hand-selected group of special communicators who supported and deployed into austere environments with Special Operations Forces.

Upon retirement, he supported government agencies as a subject matter expert in non-standard communications and as a business development executive. These experiences have enabled him to pass on the knowledge and lessons of leadership under extreme conditions for companies needing management team building.

“Your job is to stand up for your people. Back them up. Empower them to do their job.” This is just one of the many powerful messages Douglas has shared with us through this episode. Are you an aspiring leader? If so, then you don’t want to miss this episode!

Quotes:

“Body language and eye contact, those types of things are going to tell a different story than what you are being told.”

“Look at your workplace as if it is a bookshelf. Every book on there is one of the team members. Every one of those books, you should have a better understanding, at least a little bit of a summary.”

“If you don’t train them (employees) and invest in them, they’re gonna leave anyway.”

“Your (company) vision should be not more than two sentences.”

“Simplification is always more effective over the long term than complication.”

“Be open.  Be transparent. They are going to value that more than if you try to hide something on why you did something a certain way.”

“People will hold their ideas if they feel that you are not gonna take their communications and take them seriously.”

“There’s a lot of people out there who would take a job for $10,000-$15,000 less if they know they are at a place that’s making a difference and they are making a difference than going to a place and having to live in a toxic environment.”

“If you want to be a good leader, you also have to be effective.”

Quotes:

“I realized if I didn’t start making over a million dollars a year, I’d never have that exceptional life that I’ve always dreamed of. It wasn’t so much [about] the money as much as it was creating freedom and that sense of accomplishment. ”

“By applying science to my life for the first time ever, I was influencing my daily thoughts and actions. And clearly I was operating at a higher level than I ever had before.”

‘’In the book, it says there’s a secret for creating success. But the author is only gonna give you half of the secret. It’s on you to figure out the other half.”

“The central concept that I uncovered was what you envisioned in detail on a daily basis is what shows up in your life.”

“We live in this world of clutter, and we have so much coming at us that we don’t even recognize a profound when it hits us up the head. ”

“What the book basically says is that you have to program yourself every day to override that innate programming.”

“You’ve got to override that operating system that gears you to survival, and you have to do it every day.”

“People are not used to influencing themself with repetition, only with logic. That’s why they’re great at influencing the intentions but not great at impacting what determines their success, which is their every day thoughts and ongoing actions.”

“My take on the secret is you don’t just imagine what you want, and it magically appears. The missing part of the secret was yes, you gotta envision in detail what you want but more important than that, exactly how are you going to get it.”

“We got strategies coming at our ears. What we need is to make those strategies show up in our thoughts and actions. That’s what makes this different than everything else in the success and human achievement field.”

“Control itself is your everyday actions. Focus is your ongoing thoughts, and your ongoing thoughts determine your everyday actions.”

“Success in life is way simpler than you think it is. When you feed yourself this immense amount of intention and clarity and feed that clarity to yourself every day, the magic happens.”

Quotes:

“You are going to fall off the horse, and you need to find a way to get back on if this is truly what you wanna do.”

“The Olympics occur once every four years. If you’re starting a business… it’s going to take four years for it to really come to flourish in, to slot in, and to start feeling comfortable and actually delivering results.”

“It takes four years to do something significant.”

“If you’re not planning from a business standpoint, if you’re not thinking four years out where you’re gonna be, [then] you’re not thinking long term enough, you’re not thinking big enough, and you need to elevate your ability to generate vision.”

“As someone who has to be at the top one percent, as someone who has to be a business leader, you can’t just go year-by-year, quarter-by-quarter.”

“Most people, in the short term, overestimate what they can do, and they underestimate what they can do in the long term.”

“As you age, you see the patterns of life emerge, and you can start seeing with that perspective more easily. “

“When you set out to achieve something big and don’t quite achieve it, it actually opens doors where you didn’t know any doors existed. “

“It’s not about the journey. It’s not about the destination. It’s about the journey and the destination together. It’s the interplay of the two.”

“The happy fail is really related to your values.”

“Sometimes, a desire can actually take you over and push you towards an unhappy success or an unhappy failure.”

“Materialism can be quite toxic. If that becomes your primary focus, it’s really deflating.”

“Once you identify which values are missing from your life, create a couple of principles around that, create habits, and cultivate those principles and habits so that you can slowly change your life’s  direction.”

“The value should be the foundation of your mission, of what you’re doing, and the vision of how you see the future and how you see your business changing the world.”
