This episode is where I transform a personal crisis into something of value. The Mandarin character for ‘crisis’ has two meanings ‘danger’ and ‘opportunity.’ This crisis is in fact an opportunity for me to share stories from my life, let you witness some of the hurt and shame, and how I moved forward. Learning to be vulnerable is one of the greatest skills I’ve ever acquired, and has lead me to success. Maya Angelou describes success as ‘liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.’

What is enough? Don't seek to earn, be or have enough. Seek satisfaction.
A study was done by the University of London to measure happiness and material wealth, it found that seeing friends and relatives most days is worth the equivalent of a pay rise of over £60k. That’s something to reflect on when demands at work are high. No one ever empties their inbox or clears the To Do list, so when you finish you’re working day, take a moment to feel satisfied with what you’ve achieved.

Clear 10 minutes in your schedule for this lovely guided meditation but please note: There’s no need to meditate however if you find yourself unflustered by all that life throws at you. For the first episode of Season 3 I talk about one of my most popular blogs where I was saying offers don't work for Yoga. I got so many responses I wanted to talk a little more about it.

Why meditate?
People always tell me they'd like to medtiate. In this epsiode I encourage you to stop wishing to start or maintain a practice, instead; think about why you want to meditate, what you feel is lacking (like feeling able to manage change) or too abundant (like stress!) and have that as your focus, your reason why.

This lovely episode was recorded OM Retreat! I'm joined by Graham, a dear friend, former colleague and Yoga student who just attended a weekend retreat with me.
We have fun reminiscing about my 'previous life' where I was very serious and my early, slightly depressing days of teaching where classes were pretty quiet, Graham's been there through it all!
Graham describes himself as a bit of a reluctant yogi, who booked the retreat with very little expectations (so it was easy for me to exceed them!) and about his key take aways from the weekend, how he can put what he learned into his day to day life, so the value of these retreats extend way into the week ahead.

More confidence? Yes please! Increasingly, I teach somatic awareness, which is the ability to sense yourself cultivates confidence. We’ve been conditioned to ignore the sensations in the body; You need the toilet in a meeting, but don’t want to interrupt and go to the loo, so you bypass those messages from your body… You go on to ignore the ache in your back, the desire to move so you come home from work and flop on the sofa, as you check out everyone else’s social media feed about how happy and active they are! So do you always follow teachers? Or do you interpret instructions and advice, and then translate what you’ve learned into your body? Through Yoga and Meditation you’re not learning to control yourself, you’re discovering what disrupts your ability to self organise. Self organise in Yoga of course, but also in your life off your mat! Feel your confidence grow!
Welcome to my current favourite meditation; a walking meditation!
In this episode I talk about walks I went on with a friend who would get us lost (deliberately) and then insist I navigate our way back. Whilst tricky at the time, this ‘Guru’ helped me find a new path to follow. Whether you’re going for a walk or practicing Yoga, give yourself permission to explore and play! All intelligent animals play, and the more intelligent the animal, the more it plays, so now you’re motivated to get playful in your free time right? Walk forward, walk backwards, close your eyes, forget the step counter and just get lost in the sensation of moving. Workshops and Retreat Schedule all available DoYourOMThing.co.uk

JJ joined me this week! He’s a Pilates teacher (yes yoga and Pilates teachers can be friends) JJ got into Pilates to help his bad back, and when he moved to Brighton decided to train as a teacher, and now he’s about to embark on a Yoga Teacher Training. Don’t get too caught up with the name of the movement method, a good practitioner will study different methods and pull them all together! We exchange wit and wisdom, talk about the importance of looking after your feet, how to encourage men to reap the benefits of Yoga and Pilates and… JJ’s passion of movement and photography and his September retreat which will combine all of that! 1:1, Workshops and Retreat details on: BalancedRootsPilates.com Instagram: MovementAndPhotography
If you're completly energised and inspired in all aspects of your life, don't bother with this meditation! But if you're like the rest of us, you could do with a little boost, so sit back, clear 10 minutes of your day to enjoy this guided meditation!
We all just want to be normal right? Too much flexibilty and we come into problems, and too little as well. It's all about normal 'ROM' -Range of Motion. In this epsiode we get into some anatomy, I stick up for the hamstrings that always get the blame for people's aches and pain! I also talk about the need to look for mental and emotional stability; a loose mind won't be able to focus and a really tight mind tends to have difficulty switching off. -So who wants to join me and just be normal?
In this short epsiode I share a sweet little story from a recent retreat and then take us into a meditation practice in which we explore how a mind trained through meditation can take you places! A good meditatation practice will help you feel energised and motivated.
What brings you to this moment? 'Start with Why' is an amazing book which I talk about in this episode, because it's all about what motivates us to do the work we do, or activities in our free time. 'Right' motivation is key, it's our driving force is what keeps us motivated.
Mini meditation episode
Trying too hard in yoga takes the fun out of it, and as yoga is a life long apprenticeship, we need to cultivate a sense of play. In this episode I talk about modern Gurus like Mark Manson (author of 'The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k') and Brene Brown's work on Vulernability.
You're starting to interract with me on Facebook and Instagram! (Do Your OM Thing) and before we meditate I read out some of your questions! You'll need your imagination for this medtiation, time to relax and get creative.
In an era of alternative facts, are we creating our own? This week I talk about the Bhagavad Gita, The Matrix and learn an unexpected truth about myself whist recording, as ever in one take, so you'll hear my reaction!
An introduction to 'pranayama' or breathing meditations. It is said that 'to breathe well is to live well.' So find a comfortable place to sit back, take a long slow deep breath and enjoy this episode.
In this episode we get real about the how unsustainable this culture of rushing and multi tasking is. Levels of stress, burn out and fatigue are rising, we all feel busy, and often feel we don't have time for yoga and meditation. I refer to Laura Vanderkem's TED Talk, where she jokes that she could clean her blinds, (and if you gave her £100,000 she definately would) but as it is, they're not her priority, so she doesn't! What's your priority?
Take 10 minutes out of your day to practice meditation
Don't know your Asana from your elbow? Or think Karma is what happens when things don't go your way? In these fun and thought provoking episodes I share more of myself and make the theory of yoga and mediation feel accessible. I do all the reading of texts, and package the teachings up into fun and playful episodes. Expect story telling, insights from my own life and mediation practices which have all helped me loosen up!
Season 4 of the Yoga Pose Podcast starts next week!
Ah this is such a lovely little episode where we learn about being the sweetness in our community. It's a reference to a story by Arun Ghandi, Mahatma Ghandi's grandson, who knew a thing or two about living a sweet life of compassion.
