The Small Group Leader Podcast is a podcast by small group leaders for small group leaders to be equipped and encouraged as they make disciples for Jesus.
In this episode, we are talking to Jason Bell about sermons that changed his life. Jason is the Chi Alpha Director at Sam Houston State University. He has been on staff with Chi Alpha for 20 years. During that time, he has seen generations of disciples who make disciples who make disciples. Jason has a heart and mind passionately in love with Jesus. You can hear this not only when you hear him preach from the pulpit, but also when you talk to him in his living room. I think we will enjoy and benefit from hearing him talk about sermons that have had an incredible impact on his life.

In this episode, we are talking about giving a year and praying about a lifetime in the mission field. We will be speaking with Scott Martin, the National Director of Chi Alpha Campus Ministries, and hear how this call to give a year and pray about a lifetime was developed. Then we will talk to a friend of ours working in the Middle East, who gave a year and the Lord led her family to continue in that work. We will get to hear all about her decision and experience. Finally, we will speak with our friend who helps train missionaries overseas. We will hear from his perspective what it’s like to receive Chi Alpha missionaries who have experienced relational discipleship in a small group setting.

In this episode, we are talking about the model of delegation. We will be speaking with Amber Diershaw, who served on staff with Chi Alpha at Sam Houston State University for 12 years. She now has the opportunity to disciple families through her job in the workforce and is also helping with a church plant in College Station, Texas. Amber has not only taught this model of delegation, but also lived out this model of delegation in making multiple generations of disciples. We will also be sitting down with Katie Heath, a small group leader at Texas A&M University. Katie is an incredible leader and has learned the importance and impact of giving away responsibility to others.

In this episode, we will be speaking to Alex Rodriguez, the National Training Director for Chi Alpha and the creator of our teaching for this episode- Invite the Many to Disciple the Few. Then we will be interviewing Lucas Romero, a small group leader in the marketplace who has done an incredible job making disciples without being centered around a college campus. We know there will be many small group leaders this Fall who won’t be able to interact with people on campus as before. Lucas has some great insight into the mindset we must have if we are going to continue to grow our small groups no matter the circumstances in which we find ourselves.
In this episode, we will be sitting down with Belkis Lehmann and talking about the importance and practices of striving for diversity in small groups. Belkis serves as the Diversity Director for Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. She drives diversity by helping to create initiatives that equip staff and student leaders. She has spent almost 30 years discipling and reaching college students and has some great wisdom to share with us on diversity in discipleship.

On this episode we will be sitting down with Harvey Herman. Harvey has spent decades reaching college students for Christ and teaching others to do so also. He has pioneered multiple Chi Alpha groups during his missionary career as well as written books to help leaders lead including; Discipleship by Design. He currently acts as the Program Director for Chi Alpha campus ministries. This Summer, in an effort to better understand what campuses across the nation will look like this school year, Harvey did an in depth study of 65 campuses and their plans for doing ministry this fall.
This led to a document called “Leading in this Pandemic” in which Harvey outlines 4 possible scenarios for campuses this fall and how to prepare for each of them. He also compiled a list of guiding principles essential to properly responding to this crisis. In this episode we will be talking to him about some of those principles.

On this episode we will be sitting down with Katie Moran. She and her husband Josh have 4 amazing kids and with the help of 2 other staff members they are pioneering a chi alpha at James Madison University. Katie is an incredible discipler and this year, she has had much fruit with 16 Faithful Available and Teachable girls in her small group. We are going to talk with her about her heart and mindset as well as some practical things that have helped her lead her group of girls so well. So whether you have 2 or 20 people in your small group, we believe Katie can teach us something about discipleship that can help us become better soul winners.
