Paper Stages is a book club for theatre lovers! Every episode your host, Max McCreary, will interview a wildly talented guest and they will dive in to one of the many plays that is exciting them at the moment. Read and listen along with us as we go on fun adventures while taking a frank look at the state of our national performing arts community.
Max and Madeline return to dig into the magic of Kate Hamill's Little Women. This time around they explore Victorian Flower Language, the challenges of growing up, and just how special these versions of the beloved March sisters are. In a softer and more delicate episode than last week's they go through the beautiful statements of meaning and tender questions that make this adaptation of Luisa May Alcott's classic novel so electric.
In the first episode of our new format, Max and Madeline start to explore the world of Kate Hamill's adaptation of Little Women. In part 1, they discuss the merits and challenges of teaching Shakespeare to young students, fawn over Greta Gerwig and Florence Pugh, and attempt to figure out which March sister they are most like. They'll also spend some more time going over the basics of the story and characters, and celebrate the brilliant creative career of playwright, Kate Hamill.
Max and special guest, Wala, explore the world of pop music and Ru Paul's drag race... and also how systems of oppression are recognizable in healthcare. This week, they chat about Joe Penhall's Blue/Orange a dark comedy (?) about race and perspective on the precipice of a dying healthcare service.
Max and Devon dig into rich world of Annie Baker's, The Flick. Along the way they'll reminisce on their favorite and most terrifying experiences as part of the Orchard Project Core Company and have more than a few laughs as they chase after their own train of thought. Listen along as they take a stark look at this powerful and deeply nuanced Pulitzer Prize winning play.
Max and Stephanie explore the magical world of Qui Nguyen's, She Kills Monsters. Together, they talk larger than life puppets, acting aspirations, and all things Dungeons and Dragons. Listen along as they work their way through some of the silliest and most vulnerable moments in this delightful comedy about sisterhood and slaying dragons both real and metaphorical.
