Episode 32 - Unconventional Conventions
65 perc 98. rész

With the pandemic interrupting the 2020 convention calendar, we discuss its impact on different events. We ask how it may not only affect the con-going experience, but also could lead to longer term changes, which could in fact have a positive effect on content, attendance, accessibilty and representation. But how can con-runners embrace the opportunites of new technology whilst maintaining longstanding elements of physical cons that content creators rely on?

Let us know what you think about conventions and what you would like to see in the future. Is the move to virtual content permanent? How do you keep the spirit of a convention alive?

Welcome to Time for Cherry Pie and Coffee, a podcast all about Twin Peaks. We have returned to the water and the well of Lynch/Frost's surreal vision to discuss some of the themes and ideas that have resonated with us in the months since The Return hit our screens. Each episode will use the given title of each 'part' of season 3 as a jumping-off point, and this time, we're talking The Stars Turn and a Time Presents Itself.

We'll be discussing the nature of temporal, spatial and astral perspectives that influence the views of not only the characters in Twin Peaks, but our understanding as the viewer. Are we really sure of what we are seeing around us? We look up and see the stars turn, but is it in fact the world we are in that is spinning? Be Seeing You... in the trees.

Episode 31 - Book Club: Origamy by Rachel Armstrong
74 perc 88. rész

Welcome to the Cakes & Ale Book Club! Every month we will be bringing you a mix of discussions and interviews about recent genre fiction we've been reading. This month, we cover Origamy by Rachel Armstrong.

Origamy is the story of Mobius, an extra-dimensional being who is part of a 'circus troupe' of weavers able to explore and manipulate the fabric of space-time. This original and surreal science fiction tale follows Mobius' attempt to learn the mysterious art of origamy and face down the dark menace which has appeared to threaten the very threads of the universe. Origamy fuses mythic modes of storytelling with cutting-edge scientific concepts. Beautifully written and brimming with ideas, this book is unlike any other we have read in a long time.

We give you our thoughts on the novel and bring you an interview with Rachel, who tells us about her academic research as Professor of Experimental Architecture at Newcastle University and how her multi-disciplinary approach imbues both her science and her science fiction.

Welcome to The Tally Ho, a podcast about the classic TV series The Prisoner. His hugely influential style - combining retro-futurism with hard-boiled noir - has brought us classics including Mister X, Terminal City and Electropolis.

Shattered Visage was originally published by DC as a 4 issue miniseries in 1988-1989 (twenty years after the original TV show airing, and set contemporaneously), the series was written by Dean Motter and Mark Askwith, and drawn by Dean Motter, with colour art by David Hornung and Richmond Lewis. The Tally Ho talks to Chris Rodley about Once Upon A Time
97 perc 76. rész

The Tally Ho welcomes you to The Village as we continue our journey through classic TV series The Prisoner. In this follow-up to our discussion about Once Upon A Time, we talk to documentary filmmaker and writer Chris Rodley about this classic episode, the gladiatorial battle of wits between Patrick McGoohan and Leo McKern, and why this is his favourite piece of television. We also discuss how it leads in to the finale Fall Out and the impact that these two episodes had on the television landscape. There are significant SPOILERS for Fall Out for those who have not yet seen the finale!

Chris made the wonderful documentary film In My Mind about Patrick McGoohan and The Prisoner. The film chronicles Chris' interviews in 1983 with McGoohan for the now unavailable Channel 4 documentary Six Into One: The Prisoner File, made in anticipation of the high profile re-run of the series on the channel in 1984. The interviews were derailed by technical hiccups, an inexperienced crew and a subject who was notoriously hard to pin down, and indeed tried to take control of the production. Revisiting the original footage in 2017 for the show's 50th anniversary, In My Mind is filled with previously unseen footage from these inteviews and provides a startling insight into the elusive McGoohan.

You can also check out our previous interview with Chris about In My Mind in our podcast from earlier this year. Be seeing you!

The Tally Ho talks to Chris Rodley

In this episode, we talk to documentary filmmaker and author Chris Rodley about his wonderful new film In My Mind about Patrick McGoohan and The Prisoner. The film chronicles Chris' interviews in 1983 with McGoohan for the now unavailable Channel 4 documentary Six Into One: The Prisoner File.

Chris talked to us about the making of In My Mind, and how the original interviews with McGoohan helped shape his career. He also dicusses his love of The Prisoner, and its lasting impact on the television landscape.

Twin Peaks The Return is now 4 episodes in! Join us as we recap and discusss all the twists and turns in Parts 3 and 4. We're also starting to formulate our thoughts about what might be going on. We're already revisiting our earlier ideas, revising some and forgetting others. Theories abound about The Secret History of Twin Peaks and its mysterious dossier, non-linear storytelling, Hawk's connection to the mission, gaming imagery, the glass box, and the blue rose. We've spent far too much time this week freeze-framing episodes and annotating the annotations in TSHOTP. It will likely all be proven nonsense by the next episode.
