This week, Toni and Wendy swoon over two great speeches!
We watch Daphne and Simon say the bare minimum to each other for three days from dawn of the duel to the night of their wedding. Violet dismissed her hangover cure, substituted by the happy news of Daphne’s engagement to the duke. Simon clearly needed the raw eggs and garlic especially after Lady Danbury’s disappointed look. While everyone was excited and preparing for the wedding, Daphne needed to keep Cressida quiet about her garden escapade. Simon and Anthony were friendly again, but failed to secure a special license. The only way to get one was to make a plea with Queen Charlotte, who needed her own form of escapism, and we got an extremely beautiful declaration of love (and friendship) from the reserved duke. Still, tension and lack of communication distanced Daphne and Simon until the wedding night. Daphne was put into a different room, but when Simon went to escort her to dinner, another battle of Hastings started from shouts to quieter explanations. Then we got another great speech from Simon which got Daphne (and 82 million households) swooning and watching gasps turn to groans and moans, and a wonderful ending. All the while, Penelope’s thwarting of Marina’s scheme wasn’t able to prevent a secret engagement.
We haven’t been getting much news, but we’re ecstatic about the accomplishments and recognitions cast members have been receiving. We’ll be on the lookout for buzzy updates in addition to the Bridgerton: The Official Podcast which has been a great source of insight. We had to share the scandalous piece of gossip we found out last week with Meg and Laine from Plot Trysts so we can bring more theories your way! Last week, we mentioned that the season one script had read “Lady Araminta Cowper.” This can either be a red herring to get us riled up or we could see Lady Cowper as “the” Araminta in Benedict’s story. If so, Cressida will not only be a villain against Penelope, but the villain as Rosamund, Araminta’s eldest daughter. What do you think of the name and character change? Will there be gender swaps also? There are theories that not all siblings will be married at all or with their intended like in the books. The person they are supposed to be with may actually turn out to be a different gender with a similar name. Also, who exactly is Madame Delacroix because she has a noticeable amount of screen time. We’ll take any buzzy updates right now to make up for the silence we’ve been getting. We would like to come up with more ideas with Plot Trysts that will probably be wrong but entertaining. We burn for you too Simon, Duke of Hastings! We were fangirling along with the Saturday Night Live cast, the audience, and everyone else who tuned in to watch the Duke simply breathe. Then we heard his beautiful voice during the monologue, swaying on the pirate ship, and singing “Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodrigo between discussing Taylor Swift. A few days later, official Bridgerton merchandise dropped in collaboration with Phenomenal Woman. Several days after that, Bridgerton: The Official Podcast had their first full episode. Insight from Queen Charlotte and Lady Danbury were included, and their messages were heartfelt! Also, don't forget we only have a few days left to vote for Rege-Jean for the 52nd NAACP Image Awards. Finally, we have more Easter eggs for the first four episodes including a very juicy detail about book three character, Araminta! That information got us coming up with new theories which means another crossover episode with Meg and Laine from Plot Trysts. We’ll reach out to the ladies while we watch for more buzzy updates. The moment we’ve been waiting for… we have our Kate! The fandom has been busy bees with the amazing art, book covers, and memes. Who hasn’t seen the meme of Kate under Anthony’s desk? This week, Toni and Wendy breakdown a cheesy yet absolutely non-cheesy episode!
The episode begins with Violet sneaking a morsel at court before the diamond of the season receives diamonds. We sympathize with the prospect Marina received on behalf of Lady Featherington, until a Penelope disapproved rescuer spun her into happy eagerness. Philipa Featherington also has a suitor who seems perfect for her. Daphne had the perfect opportunity to show Simon she was doing just fine, but is she well after drooling over his seductive arms at a boxing exhibition? What we were really waiting for was the infamous Trowbridge Ball where Daphne and Simon came face to face, and neck to face! This led to the Anthony wanting satisfaction of another type, but not before seeking satisfaction with an old flame. While old flames are having a tryst, best friends are having a (major) tiff. There were more Easter eggs from episodes one and two! Toni and Wendy have watched the series many times to help make Bridgerton Netflix’s biggest series debut ever as declared this past week, yet it’s clear they need to keep watching. The littlest things can be easily overlooked or easily missed, and some eggs have been hinted since the Virtual Global Fan Event. The keepsake from the previous Duchess of Hastings was mentioned during the event and Simon has been wearing it since he rode onto the screen. We’ve looked into the Latin and Italian phrases and they are perfect details giving so much depth to the show. Also, the Featheringtons not only dress in the family colors, but they dress with the family mascot too. It’s not a coincidence that an insect is fluttering about the ladies. Toni and Wendy are elated! Bridgerton Season 2 has been confirmed by creator and showrunner, Chris Van Dusen, and he has been working on a script already. Spoiler alert for those who haven’t read the books, this episode is full of our bold predictions for next season. Toni thinks there’s going to be a Grey’s Anatomy moment because of an accident in the book. Wendy sees the debutante ceremony happening with Kate gliding in her own way, but will the book’s Diamond be declared in the show or will the Incomparable be someone else? Wendy and Toni hope episode two also made everyone feel as if they’ve gone through an emotional roller coaster. The show starts with a past event that brought Simon into this world. The flashbacks correlated with present events giving us a better understanding of the current Duke of Hastings. Horrifying events that young Simon went through portrays the feelings that led to the vow at the end. But as we learn more of Simon, we see the repercussions of Daphne’s facer to Berbrooke in episode one and the planning and gossiping needed to get him out of the picture. We go on a journey with the innocent misses of the ton to get more information on a condition that may be catching. The mention of tulips is explained and it’s also an Easter egg. In addition to eggs, we were served with a lot of foreshadowing. We’ve seen #PenEloise last episode and we get #BenEloise have a lovely smoking session. We also learn some back story that has Eloise afraid of what Daphne’s going through, the marriage market. With one unwanted proposal dissolved and many suitors calling, Daphne will do what she must to get what she wants with or without Hastings help. This week, Wendy and Toni talk about April 1813 and the start of the marriage market season. We’ve watched the first episode numerous times and paused at the same places to research things and find easter eggs. The eggs led to bee references and to the other Bridgerton books in the series. Gathering information led to a building with a significant surname. Certain colors and plants depicted families well and even led to the stepback cover of “The Duke and I.” We refer to cast and crew articles and interviews to explain such things as butt de-shining, a necklace, and filming locations. Follower questions were answered to better understand the show. Embroidering may be a favorite pastime if we tried, but coming up with theories seems more entertaining. We’ve noticed some female characters that may be significant mamas and daughters for other seasons or hoping they’re a part of a musical family. Of course, we talk about Daphne and Simon who don’t want to sit by each other and shouldn’t be seen together, but make a statement amongst fireworks. Toni and Wendy are back and stalling! This episode is for everyone, but especially for those who need more time to finish the entire season. We’re talking about each of the main characters from the show, hopefully without spoilers. We start with the matriarch of the Bridgertons and then her offspring according to alphabetical order. Then we touch upon the happiest in color family, the Featheringtons. Their happy colors doesn’t seem to impress Queen Charlotte though, and we don’t know what the Cowpers think too. What we do know is Daphne had Prince Friedrich and Nigel Berbrooke as suitors, but it was the Duke who makes her swoon. We can’t forget those closest to Simon, Lady Danbury and Will Mondrich. Last but not least, we have the ladies who will do what they need to do: Siena Rosso, Madame Delacroix, and Marina Thompson. Who’s your favorite character so far? The wait is over, and Shondaland has Wendy and Toni left wanting for more Bridgerton! Yes, dear friends, we have binge watched the entire first season and currently watching them again. We also participated in the Bridgerton Twitter Live event for episodes one and two, and will attend the upcoming balls. A follow-up crossover episode with Plot Trysts to discuss which adaptation to film theories we got right or wrong is definitely needed. To hear our predictions, check our @litwallflowerspodcast IG page for the link in bio. One early topic was Henry Granville and his man-on-man scene. We got the other man’s identity wrong, but Granville plays a big role in Benedict’s back story. There were changes to Lady Danbury’s character and saw her influence with Simon. The previous Duke of Hastings was horrendous and we loved it. Lord Nigel Berbrooke, will we see him in future seasons in comparison to the books? We love the Eloise and Benedict interactions, especially when Eloise said, “You’ve have to be interesting.” Anthony is conflicted throughout the season and he ends with a declaration to marry, but not to his brothers as we theorized. Hopefully he’s leaving his rakish ways that we’ve seen in this season, or most of it. Then there’s the duke and duchess who obviously made better choices at the end to become one. Be warned, the trigger scene is included in Episode 6: Swish and handled differently than in the book. We got some theories right, but wrong at the same time. We didn't give too much detail in this episode to give our fellow busy bees time to watch the entire season and to prepare for the last book “On the Way to the Wedding” for the next #BingingBridgerton Readathon. Overall, we loved everything, even the ginormous reveal at the end! The Bridgerton full trailer dropped and Wendy and Toni have much to say about that less than three minutes of gloriousness! We were gifted pictures and articles every day since the drop to help us piece everything together. We received Tweets, emails, and DMs from fellow fans. We witnessed the presentation of Daphne to Queen Charlotte, snorting in front of the Queen and Prince Frederick, and another meeting with the Queen with her intended. We saw the meet-cute of the future Duke and Duchess and that eye connection! There were times when Daphne looked happy, nervous, scared, or distressed. We got another part of the dinner pea scene. Anthony and Siena had some steamy screen time and she’s involved in a theory resulting in the fight between Anthony and Simon. One article gave away a big spoiler about Marina resulting in a theory to her and Colin’s role. Benedict went to a scandalous house party. #Peneloise walking about the town and we get a glimpse into the conversations best friends have when together. This trailer definitely showed world building for the possible future seasons. We learned about Lady Danbury and her role with Simon. We saw Simon holding a pistol for the duel scene. The trailer ends with the Bridgerton family plus Hastings together with Colin saying, “tempt scandal more often.” When would this scene take place? We received lots of holiday presents this past week! Julia Quinn hosted or attended Instagram Live interviews this week, and if you listen carefully, there may be spoilers within them. Wendy has found some buzz for Toni and the Bee community! We bring more sneaky tweets from someone who has read the books. The Twitter account answered questions posed by fans. Some are evaded and some are unanswered due to a gag order, which is okay, the suspense! Also, Julia Quinn had a Instagram Live interview with author Stefanie Sloane, and of course Bridgerton came up. (Side note: “Under the Mistletoe” has a Julia Quinn novella at the end of the book). There’s a theory explaining why there’s a non-existent Hastings ball happening in the show. Of course, we are wondering when we are blessed with a full trailer, but there is the Shonda Rhimes and Julia Quinn interview to look forward this week. The flying peas! Toni and Wendy break down the dinner scene released last week. The book describes the events of this scene, but the show gives us context with world building information known to us if we read the next Bridgerton books in the series. If the identity of Lady Whistledown interests us, so does the entire Bridgerton family, but they can all agree who the writer can’t be. Also, there are beautiful fan art posted, some already posted on our @Bridgerton2000 social media platforms, and look out for the fan art we commissioned. It will be available on our Zazzle shop with other Bridgerton merchandise. What will most likely not be turned into products is a Colin and Marina line. #Polin! That garden picture with no gloves and bonnets has us wondering and feeling many things. Then, this episode had to be rerecorded, but we got wind of sneaky tweets from someone who was given access to the entire first season! We were too excited to read the tweets in an organized manner, but we were elated! During this time of giving, Toni and Wendy recorded a bonus episode giving the scoop on the Bridgerton Global Fan Event this past week. At least, the information they think they’re allowed to divulge and could hear beyond the screaming, clapping, and crying. We were utterly surprised when some of the cast members appeared and took part in answering some fan questions. The cast told us stories during their down time, even what the horses did to “Simon and Daphne” when filming started. The event presented THREE sneak peak trailers, one being released during the event which is now known as “The Pea Scene.” The event ended with the cast members, Chris Van Dusen, and Julia Quinn giving us what they hope the fans and audience will take away from the show and their words were simply beautiful! Toni misheard Jonathan Bailey’s take away which is just as great and made Wendy laugh, but a bit naughty. This week, Toni and Wendy has lots to say about the articles and pictures we were blessed with this week! We get more insight into the vision for the show in the “How Showrunner Chris Van Dusen Built the Regency World of ‘Bridgerton’” article by Valentina Valentini on the Shondaland.com, complete with pictures. We also got pictures of the costumes and sets from Bad Taste Italia. Guess how many costumes were made for this eight episode season. Who else wants a pink rug in their home? Author Julia Quinn was also on an interview with Swedish author Simona Ahrnstedt celebrating romance getting its due. Then set costume designer Ellen Mirojnick explains herself in the “How Bridgertons Costume Designer Put Together Its Gaudiest, Tackiest Dresses (on Purpose)” article by Rachelle Hampton on Slate.com. The costumes are great and we are here for it! And … how about that #Polin picture! We are willing to receive more pictures of them even with the risk of breaking the internet. We got a non-Whistledown article, “How Bridgerton is Poised to Revolutionize Romance on Television,” by Maureen Lee Lenker and hope it has been read by all! Toni and Wendy went frame-by-frame, second-by-second to break down the Bridgerton trailer we were gifted with this past week! The Julia Quinn and Tessa Dare IG Live interview this past week was epic!
