Glory in This, sermon from Jan 2, 2021 By Pastor Don Lee Jr

What the Incarnation Cost
John 1:1-4, 14 The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
- Christ is ETERNAL
In the beginning was…
- Christ is DIVINE
the word was God accustomed to worship Ps 24
Phil 2:5-8 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
- Christ is CREATION
vs 3 All things made by him – vs. 11 unrecognized by his own
Col 1:15-20 The Supremacy of the Son of God
15 The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.
From incredible glory to absolute humiliation
PS 24- King of Glory à Luke 2 stable
Why?
John 3:16 Love à being saved “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 17:3 Knowing God is eternal life
Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
2 Cor 8:9 that we might be rich
For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Josiah book of the law 2 King
Partial revival Jeremiah 2:22, 23 For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap,Yet your iniquity is marked before Me,” says the Lord God.
Jeremiah 5:1-5 “Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem;
See now and know;
And seek in her open places
If you can find a man,
If there is anyone who executes [a]judgment,
Who seeks the truth,
And I will pardon her.
2 Though they say, ‘As the Lord lives,’
Surely they swear falsely.”
3 O Lord, are not Your eyes on the truth?
You have stricken them,
But they have not grieved;
You have consumed them,
But they have refused to receive correction.
They have made their faces harder than rock;
They have refused to return.
4 Therefore I said, “Surely these are poor.
They are foolish;
For they do not know the way of the Lord,
The judgment of their God.
5 I will go to the great men and speak to them,
For they have known the way of the Lord,
The judgment of their God.”
But these have altogether broken the yoke
And burst the bonds.

Zedekiah 2 Chronicles 36:11-16
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did evil in the sight of the Lord his God, and did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke from the mouth of the Lord. And he also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear an oath by God; but he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel. Moreover all the leaders of the priests and the people transgressed more and more, according to all the abominations of the nations, and defiled the house of the Lord which He had consecrated in Jerusalem.
The Fall of Jerusalem
And the Lord God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the Lord arose against His people, till there was no remedy.
Just prior to destruction – God’s people unaware of them condition à fate Jeremiah 2:35 Yet you say, ‘Because I am innocent,
Surely His anger shall turn from me.’
Behold, I will plead My case against you,
Because you say, ‘I have not sinned.’

And there has been no latter rain.
You have had a harlot’s forehead;
You refuse to be ashamed.
Jer 5:24, 25 They do not say in their heart,
“Let us now fear the Lord our God,
Who gives rain, both the former and the latter, in its season.
He reserves for us the appointed weeks of the harvest.”
Try to fill that void
Jer 2:13 “For My people have committed two evils:
They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,
And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water
2: 18 And now why take the road to Egypt,
To drink the waters of Sihor?
Or why take the road to Assyria,
To drink the waters of [a]the River?
Rivers – slimy, unsatisfying, dries up when needed
We have a fountain
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
John 7:38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
Must acknowledge our iniquities John 3:13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven
Return into him Jer 4:1 “If you will return, O Israel,” says the Lord,
“Return to Me;
And if you will put away your abominations out of My sight,
Then you shall not be moved.
Circumcise the heart-change direction Jer 6:16 Thus says the Lord:
“Stand in the ways and see,
And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,
And walk in it;
Then you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!
Ye would not
Jer 6:16-19 Thus says the Lord:
“Stand in the ways and see,
And ask for the old paths, where the good way is,
And walk in it;
Then you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
Also, I set watchmen over you, saying,
‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’
But they said, ‘We will not listen.’
Therefore hear, you nations,
And know, O congregation, what is among them.
Hear, O earth!
Behold, I will certainly bring calamity on this people—
The fruit of their thoughts,
Because they have not heeded My words
Nor My law, but rejected it.
Genuine saving faith is a loving trusting relationship and it always produces loving “good” works. Faith in Jesus is not a license to neglect your duty; it is not a conscious killing drug that frees you to live a selfish, sinful life. Faith in Jesus purifies the soul, crucifies self, and can realistically be considered as the opening salve in an awful battle. All of us have habits corrupt sinful ones that must be overcome. A Christian cannot be a crook, you cannot be hardhearted, you cannot talk like a sailor, you wont be critical and condemning. You represent Jesus; you cannot be a racist or sexist pig. Yet our backgrounds, our experiences, burned some of those grooves into our minds. Thus the fight of faith, the good fight.
Galations and James should be read together
James: faith + works
*Faith without works is dead
Salvation is a gift from God
-It something God does on our behalf
-It’s the relationship
Galatians Chapt 5: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
2 Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. 3 Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. 4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit we eagerly await by faith the righteousness for which we hope. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.
7 You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? 8 That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. 9 “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” 10 I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion, whoever that may be, will have to pay the penalty. 11 Brothers and sisters, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. 12 As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves!
13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[b] 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.
16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[c] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.
The Change in your life will require a fight, but it’s a Christ empowered fight
Faith and Works go hand in hand
James 2:8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,”[a] you are doing right.
Let your light so shine…Matthew 5:16
Work out your own….Phil 2:12-15
Walk as children of the light…Eph 5:8
Gal 5:6 Its faith that works thru love that matters
Faith without works is dead- For sure
Faith works by love, Love for Jesus is John 14:23, John 14:15
Gal 5:16 Works by Love
5:14 Law fulfilled by one word love
Faith that WORKS-BY-LOVE

It’s All About Worship Revelations 14: 6-7
Proskeneo: to kiss like a dog licking his masters hand, to fawn, to crouch, to prostrate oneself in homage, do reverence, too adore. Worship is God deserves and no one and no thing besides him, but there are many contenders for worship.

Memorial/ Sabbath ISA 66:23 From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the Lord.
Redeemer Deut 5:9 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
Deut 5:12-15 12 “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
Sabbath is a memorial of redemption It is still all about worship
Who is calling the shots in your life?
Revelation 15:1-4 (NIV) Seven Angels With Seven Plagues 15 I saw in heaven another great and marvelous sign: seven angels with the seven last plagues—last, because with them God’s wrath is completed. 2 And I saw what looked like a sea of glass glowing with fire and, standing beside the sea, those who had been victorious over the beast and its image and over the number of its name. They held harps given them by God 3 and sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb: “Great and marvelous are your deeds, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, King of the nations.[a] 4 Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.”[b]
God, Time, and the Judgment
April 25,2020
Pastor Don Lee
Passover was this week and this is Easter weekend, a good time to think of our deliverance from bondage. Reading the gospel accounts of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and noticed a subplot in the story I found very interesting. The unbelief of the disciples, their lack of understanding…
John 20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
Luke 24: 1-25 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre. And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. It was Mary Magdalene and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass. And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were holden that they should not know him. And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days? And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him. But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done. Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive. And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not. Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:
Didn’t understand, believed NOT, slow of heart
Found myself getting rather down on the disciples. It is the most important morning since creation and they missed it! Not like they hadn’t been warned (Matt 20:18, 19 “ Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.”) is as explicit as it could get. They “knew” the facts, they’d been schooled, been coached, they knew the scripture and the verse, but lacked understanding; what a crew Jesus chose. Imagine what the angles must have been saying, “they missed his birth, weren’t even looking for it; than after all he’s done and all he told them they missed his resurrection. Dense bunch, not the sharpest arrows in God’s arsenal”. Thinking the same way and it struck me that we are no better. We stand on the brink of the most stupendous event in earth’s history and we are lacking in understanding as they were. We don’t lack the facts, we tend to debate those, but we lack understanding. It’s a condition God calls Laodecian, wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked. (Rev. 3:17) That describes us and is described the disciples, yet God likes to use people like that, the disciples to take the good news of a risen savior to the known world and you and I to give the world one final message of mercy. In Christ is the Victory Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! Romans 8:1, 2. Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Christ to the Rescue Romans 8:3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh could not do: by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh. Where is Your Mind? Romans 8:5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. Mt. 16:23. “Get behind me Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” Galations 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like. Gal. 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Mind Control 2 Cor. 10:5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. I Chron. 28:9. And you my son Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every desire and every thought. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever. Glory Beyond Suffering Rom. 8:18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. All Creation on Tiptoe Rom. 8:19 For creation is waiting with eager longing for the sons of God to be disclosed. By textual evidence we understand this creation as subhuman. Paul want us to catch a glimpse of the cosmic significance of both humanities fall under sin and the believer's restoration to glory. Birth Pangs of Hope Rom. 8:22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. The childbirth motif points to the birth of a whole new order in which the former things are passed away and there will be no more groaning or crying or pain. Five Firm Convictions Rom. 8:28 We know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. First: We know that God is active in our lives Second: We know that He is not only working for His people, but He seeks their good. Their highest good concerns their salvation Third: We know that God is not merely guiding some things for good, but all things. Fourth: We know that the beneficiaries of God’s working for good in all things are those who love Him. Of course that love is not free-standing—God loved us first. Fifth: We know that God has called us according to His purpose. Our salvation. Five Unanswerable Questions 1.) Rom. 8:31 If God be for us who can be against us? 2.) 32 He who did not withhold even His own son, but gave Himself up for all of us, will He not also with Him freely give us all things. 3.) Who shall bring any charge against Gods elect? It is God who justifies. 4.) Who is to condemn? It is Christ Jesus, who died, yes who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us. Rom. 8:34 5. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Rom. 8:35. More Than Conquerors In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us. Rom. 8:37 Victory’s Crescendo Rom. 8:38,39. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come…shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Peace and Hope
5 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, wea]">[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And web]">[b] boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but wec]">[c] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him! 10 For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! 11 Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Hosea chapter 1-3

Predestination-High Calvinism Rely on the passage- I think largely taken out of context; interesting to me Paul quotes from Hosea in framing his thoughts. Hosea has to be the least Calvinistic book in all of scripture and I want to review its message with you today. 1st 3 chapters are a story; enacted parable. Hosea 4-14 are 2 sermons …or 3….or 4

1 Samuel 1:1
Narrative: Hearing God’s Voice
Why do we come to Church?
To praise God with fellow believers; to worship him.
Important, God wants to hear from us, but ultimately we come to church to hear a word from the Lord, to hear God’s voice.
Had thought to use the story of Samuel to discuss how we hear God’s voice, but Samuel himself may not be the very best example for us. His experience “speak for thy servant heareth” isn’t all that common.
Does happen + It is something people crave and other fear
Martin Luther---Parishioners “If God was speaking we’d run to hear him, we’d be there” “He is in the preaching of his word”
1Thes 1:4,5 For we know, brothers and sisters[a] loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
1 Thes 2:13 And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.
power is in the word not the messenger
1 Peter 4:10-11 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
