It’s been 1 YEAR since we all met at PodFest 2020 and oh, what a year it has been (T&T Ep. 34)! I am so excited to welcome back Sara McInerney Hauck (Facing Fear podcast), Melissa Goodwin (Girl Gotta Hike podcast), and Vivana Soto (Life Whispers podcast) to the #TurmericAndTequila mic! Little did we know at this time last year we were at the last in person event we’d all be at for a very long time. We were all new to the podcast scene and really didn’t know what to expect for the weekend at PodFest aka welcoming American Idol’s William Hung to the T&T mic, ha. Additionally, and also unknowingly, we were officially uniting as a podcast family, meeting many of the people we would keep in touch with and lean on for all things podcasting in the coming year (and beyond). We met fellow casters, podcast biz owners, niche topic/passion enthusiasts, audio engineers (shout out to resident T&T audio master, Theon Walls), and so many other varsity podcast community members. I hope to one day say (and it’s confirmed), it was the initial gathering of the future podcast gods- under one mission, so help us Joe Rogan. Until then, we shall remain humble in this podcast jungle and enjoy the crap out of the journey! Sara, Melissa, Vivana, and myself, catch up on our podcast successes, failures, and funnies over this past year. We share what we have learned, pro tips, and the joy that casting AND the community has brought to our lives. If you’re jumping into podcasting, are a long-time podcaster, or just a lover of passionate humans, this cast is for you. We don’t know where the casting trails leads, but we know one thing- we have each other… and some tequila:). Cheers to many more #PodFam reunion shows to come!
I did have the incredible opportunity to be a speaker at Podfest 2021 (just a few weeks ago), check out my presentation on GRACEFUL DISRUTION. Can’t wait to be in person with everyone again soon!

“Failure is essential. Trial and error is necessary.”
-David Bergen
I am excited to welcome Kristin Jekielek to the T&T mic! Kristin embodies graceful disruption as she shares her journey going from astrophysics degree to entrepreneur when she realized that “people like her” could also break free and do things their own way. Kristin shares that the jump from the corporate world wasn’t entirely her own as her health took a turn and she was unbale to work. Thankfully, she had a few side hustles going on that eventually led to a full-time situation… universe speaks! Even being very dialed in with her health, crossfit, diet , etc., Kristin had to take matters further into her own hands and change the path personally and professionally. This is a great conversation for anyone wondering why they seek change or a better way when they did “all the right things”. Trial, error, and all the juicy failure just might be the arrows pointing you in the right direction to not only professional success, but also true self enlightenment #notforsale. After all, everything is connected- so if the inside is off, so is the outside. Worry not, you can always change your perspective and actions and get back on the path you were always meant to be on. Thanks for an awesome convo, Kristin, keeping crushing and disrupting as you do #cardio!
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Breakdown, breakthrough. Perspective and doing less. Inner peace = outer success. Health is wealth. Entrepreneurship. Breaking up with the corporate world. Awareness. Self-love. Chasing the dream. Mindset.
Kristin Jekielek:
Kristin Jekielek believes your business needs to create more video. After graduating college with an honors degree in astrophysics, Kristin worked as a software consultant for a Fortune 50 company delivering innovative software technologies. After seeing the power and value of video marketing for her own side hustles, Kristin launched Value Video Marketing to help companies cross "weekly video" off their to do list.
How is marketing consulting going for you these days?

“Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.”
-Salvador Dali
Oh, how I love a conversation around balance… obvi, Turmeric & Tequila:) Today I welcome Shelley Goldstein to the mic and she jumps right in sharing her journey as a true creative battling the idea of perfection. Anyone that creates knows that it comes from a place within, where there is nothing to compare because there is nothing else like it. If that makes sense? However, we are all humans of today’s world, so we find things to compare, even when creatively is incomparable. Human behavior. Comparison is the thief of joy, as we know, AND it’s a constant awareness to pull back and let go of any idea of perfection, aka stop comparing. Shelley shares her experience as a true perfectionist and how it got her to the top of her game, only for her to pull back and lean into full self-acceptance. From the top of the costume industry on Broadway to digital marketing strategist mastery, the real end game was letting go of perfection so true joy could ensue and the real riches of life could fully be experienced. If you are competitive, an entrepreneur, a parent/coach, or anyone looking to start something- this cast is for you. Yes, we want to do all we can to be our best AND we need to embrace the imperfect path that gets us there. Remind me of this… :)
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Perfection. Letting go. Letting go of perfection. Balance, awareness, and becoming a better you. People care less that you do, relax. The button doesn’t matter. Greatness vs. perfection. Success in failure. Listening and not listening. Mindset and flexibility. Letting it happen. Life skills through sports.
Shelley Goldstein
I’m Shelley, nice to meet you! I am a marketer, blogger, quintessential tourist and profoundly curious.
My marketing journey was a happy accident. I was busy following my dream as a costume designer, cutting my teeth on Broadway shows like La Cage Aux Folles, 42nd Street and national tours for Ringling Bros, Barnum & Bailey Circus. A well-defined identity, combined with technical chops, was the best education in becoming a marketer with an out-of-the-box perspective and start-up mindset.
As a digital marketer and strategist for over 15 years, I’ve helped develop a range of brands and websites for products, services and events. I’m savvy using traditional and non-traditional marketing tactics across paid, earned and owned media, and experienced in both B2B and B2C transactions. I can also ride an elephant and craft some serious millinery.
Maybe that’s reason friends and family encouraged me to write. My unique viewpoint on marketing best practices intertwined with personal discoveries and anecdotes is, as they tell me, amusing and relatable. I also use a lot of commas, suggesting a brief pause.
I welcome you to read and take pause, and share your comments with me.

I was PUMPED to be an OFFICIAL SPEAKER at The Podfest Global Summit 2021! I spoke about GRACEFUL DISRUTION, what it is, why it’s important, and how I came to know this. I display my process through the lens of my fitness and business journeys thus far. Some success and lots of failure… or so I thought, I had to personally gracefully disrupt my own perception on what the past really was and how much it really prepared me for my future. All the clichés on this one, but as I always say, if any part of sharing my journey streamlines lessons in yours, it’s all worth it:). Reality is nothing more than applied meaning, as we say on T&T. Define your own meaning, dare greatly, disrupt gracefully. Enjoy.

Highlights:
Questioning a better way. OG philosophy. The why the how, and where are we now. Plan to fail, thus you’ll succeed. Define your own meaning and disrupt your own reality. “Imagination is the highest form of research.”
-Albert Einstein
Reality is nothing more than applied meaning. We say this A LOT on T&T, it’s at the core of our WHY, after all. In a world that is telling you how to be, live, think, and exist… we are writing you a note and excusing you for the day! This is an awesome conversation with Jeff Venn, entrepreneur, father, dreamer, doer, and former pro surfer, about dialing into self and making major pivots in life to be as useful to this world as you can be. Questioning a better way is Jeff’s cardio. We unpack Jeff’s journey from a strictly religious childhood, to finding freedom in surfing, to eventually changing his direction in life completely once he figured out his core values and decided to chase what was real to him. Jeff is an open book sharing his entrepreneurial pursuits, physical and mental wellness, parental pro tips, and even expanding the mind and his creatively with psychedelics! Yes, you can be all things. See you at Burning Man soon Jeff:), thank you for the time and energy… and expanding the horizon for us all!
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Leaving behind the prescribed you and embracing the real you. Letting go of what you should do. Mental and physical wellness. Corporate world to entrepreneurial world. Questioning marriage, monogyny, and psychedelics. The importance of mentorship and leading by example. Life skills through sports. Burning Man.
Jeff Venn:
I'm Jeff Venn, a life architect, business owner, and mentor to young entrepreneurs.
Many people will tell you where to go, what to do, and how to live, but there's a higher path and calling inside of you that only you can unearth.
It's time to stop living by other people's scripts and expectations for your life and have your own awakening.
I've done this in my own life, taking a forward-thinking, progressive approach to building and running my businesses and how I build and run my days.
Sure, I’ve accomplished a few things on the outside:
- Founder ofCreate Studios, a digital marketing agency
- Founder ofc o n v e r g e, a community for young entrepreneurs
- Former Semi-Pro Surfer
- Professional Musician
- Fluent in Spanish
But I’m most proud of my successes on the inside. I’ve escaped the rat race. I’m rich in the things that matter most to me – control over my time, a fulfilling work-life balance, and the opportunity to inspire young entrepreneurs to dream bigger than they ever thought possible.
Life is a giant wheel of progress, improvement, and learning.
Now, let’s get moving.

“My barn having burned down, I can now see the moon.”
― Mizuta Masahide (17th century Japanese poet and samurai)
The unexpected conversations are my favorite ones… it just feels like it was supposed to happen, so something larger made it happen:) I am very excited to welcome Tiffany Barnes to the T&T mic, this beautiful unplanned convo will have you rethinking your thinking on life and your reaction to the “shit”. Tiffany has deep ethos as someone who has mastered overcoming. Tiffany is an abuse survivor, emancipated at 15, working 3 jobs to take care of herself, she still managed to graduate at the top of her class. Her triumphs did stop there. Tiffany is an author, entrepreneur, and founder of an advocacy group, S.H.A.R.E, Sharing Hope for the Abused through Resilience and Empowerment, that has grown into a full 503C nonprofit! She is passionate about real estate and helping others share their truth on her podcast, Speak Loud. Tiffany shares her inspiring journey and great words on using the past to help build the future. Take notes and let your perspective shift for the positive. If Tiffany doesn’t have an excuse to dwell in the shit, neither do we! Thank you, Tiffany, you are truly resilient and powerful, I can’t wait to see what is next for you!
Highlights:
Resilience. Overcoming. How to not dwell in the shit. Letting go and moving forward. Acknowledging the ups and downs, knowing it’s a process. Breakdown, breakthrough. Self-love and seeking acceptance. Questioning a better way. Sharing your light and being the light for others.
Tiffany Barnes:
Tiffany Barnes is familiar with overcoming hardships.
After enduring physical, mental, and sexual abuse, Tiffany was emancipated at the age of 15. At the time, she was only the 2nd case in the state of Utah for a child of that age to become legally emancipated. While working three jobs to support herself through high school, Tiffany became a Sterling Scholar, graduating top of her class, an athlete, and founder of S.H.A.R.E, an advocacy group for students; by students who had experienced abuse.
What began as a small group of students supporting each other, S.H.A.R.E has since grown and evolved into a 503C national foundation that stands for Sharing Hope for the Abused through Resilience and Empowerment.
As a torch bearer for the 2002 Olympics, Tiffany has always been determined to shine light in dark places. Helping others to “light their flame within”. While most might have used their unfortunate past as a crutch, Tiffany has chosen instead to use it as a stepping-stone toward a better future. As a realtor and real estate investor, Tiffany prides herself in exceeding expectations for her clients. She also loves coaching people on how to set up successful Airbnb’s to build long term wealth.
Tiffany is now following her passion of helping others to overcome through her work as the founder of S.H.A.R.E as well as a Keynote Speaker across the nation.
Her first book “The Throw Away Girl”, an inspiring autobiography, is soon to be released.
Tiffany has made it her mission to help others create real change, one person at a time. Her motto is “It’s the START that STOPS you.” Through her message, Tiffany helps others to begin their journey of resilience and empowerment from adverse circumstances one step at a time!

“Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.”
~Mahatma Gandhi
I could not be more excited to have this conversation about The Special Olympics- there is SO much to the organization that we don’t know and it’s unbelievably positive! They are truly an incredible, thriving example of diversity and inclusion. Today I welcome Megan Scremin, President & CEO of Special Olympics Colorado, and Mackenzie Beauvais- Nikl, Special Olympics Colorado’s Female Athlete of the Year for 2020. Megan and Mackenzie breakdown the ALL of the opportunity with the organization of The Colorado Special Olympics. They share their personal experiences from the business/management perspective and from the leader/athlete perspective. I had no idea you could be a lifelong athlete with the Special Olympics and the incredible community the organization creates not only for the athletes, but for their families alike. The Special Olympics organization work to be as full service as possible- offering events, health screenings, other lifestyle guidance, and even social events. They run amazing fundraisers year-round, so be sure to check out one of the links below for further details. They heavily rely on the surrounding communities’ support! Do what you can, we need more organizations like this on our world, especially right now.
Megan Scremin:
President & CEO of Special Olympics Colorado
Megan joined the Special Olympics movement seven years ago as the Director of Events and began serving as Vice President of Development in 2014, where she successfully managed them organization’s fundraising efforts leading to a 60% increase in overall revenue, and the growth and development of several programs including Athlete Leadership. In her role, Scremin is responsible for leading a team of 40 professionals to implement Special Olympics Colorado’s programs and mission. She will oversee the development and advancement of the organization’s strategic plan to best serve individuals with intellectual disabilities, giving them opportunities to participate, compete, grow as leaders and lead healthier lives.
The New York State native earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky, Master’s Degree from Arizona State University and serves on the Board of Trustees for Emma Willard School, an independent all-girls high school in Troy, New York. Megan enjoys spending time with her husband, Marc, and children, Grayson and Maddie.
Mackenzie Beauvais- Nikl, SOCO Athlete:
Mackenzie is an athlete leader with Special Olympics Colorado. She currently serves as the Chair of their state AIC (Athlete Input Council) and is a member of SOCO’s Board of Directors along with being in the government major tract in ALPs U. Mackenzie also represented SO Colorado in Abu Dhabi at the global youth summit in 2019.
The sports Mackenzie participates in are soccer, basketball, track and field, softball, flag football, snowboarding, and volleyball. She has been an athlete for 12 years. Most recently, Mackenzie received the incredible honor of being selected as Special Olympics Colorado’s Female Athlete of the Year for 2020.
Mackenzie came into her family by adoption at two weeks old and lived in the mountains with her mom, dad and brother until she was six when they moved to the city. Mackenzie’s interest in sports began with wanting to be like her big brother who loved sports. She had difficulty being included on her school teams but then she found Special Olympics Colorado where she was not only included but celebrated. The confidence she gained from this has translated into all aspects of her life.
Photography, animals, and advocacy have also been a big part of her life. Mackenzie received a certificate in disability advocacy from Colorado Cross Disability Coalition after taking their class conducted jointly with DU. She has had two of her photographs featured in a show at the Denver Art Museum and enjoys having people see her world through her eyes. She trained her own service dog, Mickey, in conjunction with Domino Service Dogs, is training her mom’s new puppy in basic obedience, and volunteered at the Denver Dumb Friends League until her school schedule became too heavy.
After successfully completing Denver Public School’s Transitions program, Mackenzie enrolled in, and completed, the Inclusive Higher Education Certificated Program at Metropolitan University of Denver with a certificate in Parks and Recreation and photography.
While Mackenzie learned to navigate both the bus system and light rail to get anywhere in the metro area, she had a dream of learning to drive. Master Drive offered her the opportunity to see if this was a possibility given her cognitive disability. In March of 2019 she received her driver’s license and the freedom that that entails.
Each one of these successes builds on the previous one and leads to more. They all began with Special Olympics and the opportunity to realize her skills and talents.
Mackenzie loves spending time with her family and friends, especially her unified partners Enzo Ewari, Lilie Stoolmen, and Emi Carlson with whom she has a special connection. These relationships push her out of her comfort zone. She also loves being a leader in all of the communities she is involved in, especially Special Olympics.

“The Kaizen Philosophy assumes that our way of life - be it our working life, our social life, or our home life - deserves to be constantly improved.”
-Masaaki Imai
In 2021 the consumer expects more, thank goodness. We want to know who is behind the company, their why, and what they are doing for the world beyond slanging their product and services. Quick KO ethos (why I’m saying what I’m saying): 18+ years in the marketing and branding space, 12+ years of competitive CrossFit, 5 games appearances, and have worked with every major fit biz, apparel, equipment, CPG, etc. company that is out there from startups to the majors. Many laps run on and off the field:)
I came across Element 26 at CrossFit, my Dad introduced me to the grips and I was super impressed. If you CrossFit you know there is more gear than you’ll ever need… you can do more “outfit changes” before a workout than a high-end fashion model starring in a top designer’s show, showcasing an entire season. There are specific accessories for specific exercises and most of it can be useful- actually necessary is another podcast. CrossFit is a marketer’s dream, we buy EVERYTING! That being said If you are training for life aka for the long term, certain functional training tools and gear can greatly supplement the journey and protect your body for the IRL activities. The Founders of Element 26 lead with their core values, making functional training equipment for functional athletes. They’re not only working to upgrade the training tool options on the markets, they are also working to further build community, connecting with their consumers and fans. They provide a wealth of valuable content and are accessible- they are listening!! For consumers out there looking to learn to be more “picky” and vote with their dollar or business owners looking to further highlight their own core values through their business operations, this is the cast for you! Consumers, consciously spend and business owners, intentionally humanize your brand highlighting your own core values wherever possible. People care… and it inspires long-term, positive change!!
Highlights:
Business and core values. Chasing the dream. Balancing a start up with life. Commitment, dedication, chasing your passions. Being a competitor and consumer in the space you work in. “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.”
-Harriet Tubman
What a week (/year) in America. The events at the White House on January 6th, regardless of our political affiliation, were horrendous. No one wants to see elicited violence like this, no one. Like many of you, I am still trying to fully unpack what I saw and question how something like this even happens in America in 2021? A T&T Open Mic conversation was in order to say the least. Given the visible (and tangible) differences between the Black Lives Matter protests earlier this year and the domestics terrorism that happened on January 6th, I wanted to gain the perspective of a person of color AND someone close to the law. I knew what I thought, but of course do not see the world through everyone else’s eyes. I messaged Sivonnia DeBarros (lawyer, author, speaker, podcaster, mom), inviting her to come on T&T for a candid conversation about where America is now and she graciously accepted. I have not met Sivonnia in person, but I knew right away she is a varsity human on a mission and she would not hold back in this conversation! The fact that two people that don’t know each other, that don’t look the same, can get together and have a heavy conversation in itself, gives me some ray of hope… but man, do we have a long way to go. Sivonnia and I discuss the events of January 6th, the difference between protesting and terrorism, how she explains the world to the young humans in her life, and what she’s hopeful for as a black woman in America… and so much more. Please check out all the good that Sivonnia is putting into this world, with her family, her practice, books, and all initiatives she working on for 2021! God bless every person out there working to do the right thing every day you are not alone. #keepthefaith

“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”
-Dolly Parton
We often get wrapped up in the grand gesture… the end game, the goal, the title, the result. Really, it’s about all the in-between: the reps, the work, the extra work, all the unrecognized additional effort that really gets you to that end game that matters most. Today it is just you and I and I discuss the importance of personal responsibility, especially in 2021- learn to rely on yourself!! I talk about measurables vs. non-measurables, acknowledged effort and all the goal stars you should have been awarded. I talk about accountability, integrity, character aka who you are when no one else is watching. The only thing we have at the end of the day is our usefulness, are we in service to others and ourselves? Are taking advantage of opportunity to be better so we are prepared for THE opportunity when it comes? This is a great time to check in and recalibrate regardless if you are dialed in or not. We are the only ones that know our true- truths, who we actually are, and what we actually stand for… pay, resume, awards aside, you either lay down at night knowing you’re doing your best or you’re not. Let the checks and balances happened and get back behind your own wheel to steer towards your best self. Cheers:)
Highlights:
Personal responsibility. Personal accountability. No gold stars. Heart, hustle, leadership, and all the non-measurables are the pay off. Reps, work, and all the non-glamorous plays that get you to the long-term, end game/goal. Continuous self-awareness, breakdowns and breakthroughs. Failure and all the winning lessons that it provides. Changing your perspective on the journey. Seeing all opportunity every day to get and stay ready for THE opportunity.

“I think you realize how much you need to have people that you love. It’s not as much about them loving you- it’s about you needing to love people.”
-Chadwick Boseman
It’s finally time to toast to 2020… or at least review it and toast to the new year coming in! I am always excited to invite my good friend, Ashley Knight, back to the T&T mic, especially for our annual “Year In Review Cast”! There was a lot to cover this year, as you know. We dive right in on Jan 1 with our first alerts of what is now COVID-19, followed by repeated events of racial injustice, the run to the 2020 Presidential Election, the loss of many great, varsity humans this year including Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Chadwick Boseman, and so much more. It was very interesting to see the timeline of events on paper, proving that the year really did start off tough and it only got more intense as we went on. We are truly in unprecedented times, scrambling to be better, do better, and evolve as best we can- as fast as we can. Ashley and I discuss the timeline of events one by one, noting the overarching themes of the pandemic(s)- the virus AND systemic racism as a whole. I always aim to keep the podcast and conversation as positive as possible, but more importantly real. This conversation drips with the unfortunate realities of 2020 and while not-so-uplifting, it’s critical we acknowledge the truth in what is and isn’t going on so we can do better in the future. Ashely and I do find some silver lining in the mix and we end on a gracious note… after all, it’s about resilience. Bring on 2021!!!
Timeline of event by The NYDailyNews.com and The NY Post
Highlights:
Breakdown, breakdown, let’s hope we break through. Goodbye 2020. Systemic racism, COVID-19, The Presidential Election. Trump, Biden, voting. Racial and social justice. The loss of many great people this year. Sexism, business and the reoccurring theme of powerful men taking full advantage. #BlackLivesMatter . Light at the end of the tunnel. TEQUILA.

The team is in full force today- we have Madonna AND Dolly energy coming to the table. Pack a helmet and a note pad!! I am pumped to welcome Kourtney Thomas, a self-discovery facilitator for women, to the T&T mic. Kourtney has raw, authentic, passion for her clients and business, leading by example and sharing her own trials and tribulations- like her inspirational hero, Dolly Parton. We unpack Kourtney’s journey thus far and how her learnings can be applied come 2021 for us all. We discuss priorities vs. goals, mindset, and how we can do a better job approaching life and what we want out of it, in general. With a new year comes a new mindset, here are some ways, tips, tricks, inspirations, on how you can better prep yourself the blessed year ahead… and everyday starting now:)
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Breakdown, breakthrough. Dolly Parton. Cats, dogs, and being human first. Business and not needing to scale. Priorities and knowing what your “enough” is. Self-care, mindset, mind shift. Being your own authentic brand, no matter what. Balance and approach.
Kourtney Thomas:
Kourtney Thomas is on a mission to help women find their own inner Dolly Parton. Through guided self-discovery work and coaching, she helps women see themselves so they can trust themselves in every choice they make for their bodies, lives, and businesses. On the daily, everyone needs the blunt (but kind) reminder that the only “right” way to do something is the way that works for YOU. With her background in fitness and life coaching, Kourtney has a gift for understanding all kinds of people, building instant rapport, and saying what she means without being mean. She helps women cut through the fluff to the conversations that matter. There aren’t confetti cannons around here, but there’s a whole lot of grit and growth. When she’s not coaching, Kourtney enjoys bicep curls and hiking fueled by cake in Denver, CO, where she lives with her husband, dog, and two cats.

“I don't really believe in marriage; now Botox on the other hand, that works every time.
-Samantha Jones
We are in the shallow end of the pool today! Which is ok- turmeric AND tequila folks, today is a tequila day… aka Botox! I joke about Botox on the show all the time, it’s real, I use it, but it is also a great punch line for many things. We work to keep all doors open at T&T and I have received a ton of questions around Botox (… of all the deep things we talk about lol #loveit). So today I am breaking down what Botox is, when and why you might want to get it, what to know before you do, and some other tips, tricks, and 411 around Botox to address as many questions around the topic as possible. Getting Botox is a vanity play, hence the shallow end of the pool, but the real baseline convo is about addressing the internal before the external. I am all for treating yourself and making any external changes you might want to make, however, please make sure to unpack all (or as much as you can, as the process never ends:) the internal turmoil prior to investing in the external upgrade. You can put a bow on anything and make it “better”, but if the product in the box or the internal is off, it will far outlast any outer stamp or pretty pieces we put on to mask it. The inner beauty really does shine though. Prevention is extension, in all cases. Health, wellness, and tequila… cheers!! #balance
Highlights:
Botox. Who, what, where, when, why? The quick 411, do I need this? The internal vs. the external. Botox vs. fillers. What to know before you go. Questioning a better way. Vanity, self-love and all things in-between. Transparency in an influencer world. Strategic partnerships. Inner glow.

“No is a complete sentence.”
-Anne Lamont
The holidays are A LOT, 2020 is A LOT, family (year-round) is A LOT. The conversation around boundaries and self-love/care has been coming up again and again so I knew we have to bring it to the T&T mic. I am pumped for today’s conversation with my good friend and boundary PRO, Clare Sorbon. Clare is a former D1 athlete, corporate professional, one of 5 siblings, and all-around varsity human. This year has been a year of its own, but the holidays in general are very stressful and filled with pressure and expectation. I wanted to unpack why we commit so hard to these traditions if it is so much hard work and likely not that healthy for us? We don’t need one more thing working against us in 2020, ha. Clare and I discuss family, tradition, and the evolving process of continued self-reflection/growth it takes to keep these things that mean so much to us in positive light and experience. We discuss the importance of space, grace, and self-protection. It’s ok to take a holiday off or use your voice and say a relationship or situation is no longer severing you (family, friends, career etc). We agree that family is the most important thing, hence all the more reason to have the tough conversation and understanding that while things are changing and we are evolving, we all need to protect our own magic for the greater good and we need to step back when we need to step back. Clare and I cover questions you should ask yourself when deciding if relationship/situation is serving you or not, the importance of core values and knowing your true self, and working to universally understand that each person’s experience is different- even when you’re related. The holidays are a joyous time, let’s work to keep it that way, even if it means evolving some of these traditions and rules that we cling so tightly to- change is a good thing!!
Highlights:
Evolution, self-love, and boundaries. Knowing when to cut ties and protect yourself, your heart, and your magic. The holidays, tradition, expectation, and change. Space and grace and balancing it all. Family, friends, perspective, and the hard cut off. Questioning a better way. Hard choices to make a good long-term decision (for all).
Clare Sobon:
Clare Sobon serves as the Development Officer at Denver Contemporary Art Museum. Before taking a dive into the art world, she competed as a student-athlete thrower at Belmont University. She hails from New Jersey, where she and her large family of 7 built roots as a culturally mixed family in a very diverse region of central jersey. As a fundraiser she has found that an individual relationship with healthy boundaries and measured expectations can be the exact combination to help better boost relationships and settle family ties.

“What you think you become. What you feel you attract. What you imagine you create.”
– Buddha
Genuine and sustainable (POSITIVE) impact, shall that please be the goal for everyone in this world for come 2021!?! Today I sit down with entrepreneur and author, Andrew Kap. We discuss many things that most of us have contemplated in 2020- what am I doing? Am I happy? What do I really want? Where can I improve in my life? Etc. The upside of 2020 is that we have had this time to contemplate these things… while uncomfortable, it’s a real awakening that life is short, time is finite, and we should be doing what we authentically want to be doing. If we are individually more satisfied, happier, collectively the world will be as well. The law of attraction is REAL. Meaning, if you get your mind right, your intentions and goals clear, the things you oh so desire will come to fruition via your own attraction. Andrew’s book, “The Last Law of Attraction Book You’ll Ever Need to Read”, gets right to it. Andrew shares his journey, his “why”, and his own clear minded goals with the base point genuine and sustainable impact- for the long term. Andrew’s goals, 1 million books sold, 1 million YouTube subscribers, are the vehicles that allow him to share his gospel on how to create the life you want to be living, one thought at a time. His message is to the point… no need to watch hours of The Secret… it’s all right here, in concise, actionable steps. #streamlineprocess #yourwelcome . Enjoy and keep a look out for Andrew’s next moves, he is shaking thing up for the better! Cheers!
Highlights:
The Law of Attraction. Manifestation. Getting your mind right to get your life right. The power of positive thinking. Concise actionable steps that you can do every day to change your life. Questioning a better way. Intentions. Mental power tools. Loss turning into gains. Things happening for a reason. Energy and energy distribution. Committing to yourself.
Andre Kap:
Andrew Kap holds one goal above all others through his various projects: Genuine and Sustainable Impact. He often focuses on topics that many find overwhelming, and he then condenses them into actionable, more consumable content. His latest offering, “The Last Law of Attraction Book You’ll Ever Need To Read” offers readers a never-before-seen understanding of then topic — that no other “LOA” book has ever been able to do — by going the extra mile of finally addressing WHY people who get excited about trying it still can’t manage to get in the habit of using these methods for just five minutes a day. The book has enjoyed continued success, including hundreds of 5-star rave reviews, #1 Best Seller status in multiple categories on Amazon, and a growing YouTube channel devoted to it. Andrew is currently based in New York, where he publishes new content daily.

“Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It’s about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let out true selves be seen.”
-Brene Brown
Getting BACK to our authentic selves! If you haven’t had to check in with yourself and ask yourself why you got stated in something? What you wanted to do as a kid? Where is the passion that you once had for that one thing?... then you probably should. We all lose our “why” at one point in the game. Meaning, that we had goals and agendas and hopes and dreams AND then life happens. You take the job to pay for the family, you move to marry the one true love, you sacrifice some piece of your authenticity along the way because you think that you have to. That is when you start to feel out of alignment and something just isn’t right. From there, everything shifts. Like athletes, as soon as you’re injured, it throws everything else off as well. Not all is a loss however, we just need to consistently check back in and be honest with ourselves so we can show up honest in the world. You can sacrifice for things AND keep your true, authentic core values at the forefront of your life, you just need to be intentional and aware. The only way to reach self-actualization aka completely at peace and happy with ourselves is to live an authentic life. Today I welcome Steve Kolander to the T&T mic- he is the perfect person to share an incredible example of living intentionally and athletically. Steve shares his journey as a creative, a store teller, entering the music business chasing a dream only to lose his voice literally while battling cancer to literally regaining it through healing, but FINDING it through his son. Steve chases the dream, does the responsible life thing, and now is doing both… as we all can. Now is the time to dive back into what we actually want to be doing, one of the few things we can control. The world will be a better place if we all made ourselves happier, authentically, first… then we can get to everything else:)
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Breakdown, breakthrough. Chasing the dream, losing it, getting back to it- all things right on time. Experience and the share shifting of our wants, needs goals, dreams. Turmeric and tequila. Health, wealth, and true happiness. The music business then and now. Getting back to who we were when we were kids. Famous people, influencers, real hero’s. Building a life over building a living. Knowing it’s 2020 and anything is possible.
Steve Kolander (born November 15, 1961, in Lake Charles, Louisiana) is an American country music artist. He debuted in 1994 with the release of his self-titled album on River North Records. It produced two singles on the Hot Country Songs charts. A second album for River North, Pieces of a Puzzle, was released in 1996, followed by the independently released Light to Dark in 2007.
Sticky Story Inc, Steve Kolander’s Creative Agency:
One day, tens of thousands of years ago, man saw a reflection of himself in a lake and pronounced, "I am." In the very next moment he realized, "And one day I will not be." And from that moment on, man has created a story about why he is here and what his purpose is in life.
Businesses are actually no different. What is our identity and why do we exist in this world? We need to know why we exist so we can share that core value with others. And when our audience recognizes that they share the same core belief, a relationship is born. And that is how our businesses grow in customers and revenue. It's that simple. Or is it?
Watch the videos to see how the core belief is the subtext to each brand story.

“The people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
– Steve Jobs
Badassery, yes, it’s actually a word and the formal definition is: behavior, characteristics, or actions regarded as formidably impressive. Aka bad ass. Today I welcome Jen Josey to the T&T mic and we cover a lot! Jen started her journey in teaching only to realize that she didn’t like children. Minor detail:). She jumped to the corporate ship just long enough to realize that also was not a fit, so she jumped again. This time to real estate, eventually starting 2 companies, one investing group, both led by the end game of all-around POSITIVE IMPACT. You can do business and do good in the world at the same time… who knew?! Jen shares her trails, tribulations, and successes. She is a true student of the life game and NEVER stops learning. She has taken big risks and received even bigger rewards because of it. She discusses the importance of support in your life, DOGS, and caring about other people. This is an awesome cast for anyone wanting to add more heart into their business and make the world a better place and own your own badassery along the way. Listen in, if you can handle it:) Thanks Jen, you’re an inspiration to varsity humans everywhere. Cheers!
Highlights:
Self-awareness, happiness, and taking chances. The importance of support, GREAT coaches, and continuous learning. Lead with the heart, work with the mind, be open to the world changing and opportunities in front of you. Question a better way. Keep tequila close.
Jen Josey:
My first passion in life was teaching middle school music. I did this for 16 years until I woke up one day and realized I hated children. I wanted out so desperately that I chose an equally abusive industry and became a health insurance agent. I quickly climbed the corporate ladder for the next 5 years only to find I was halfway up the wrong ladder.
Forty(ish) and unhappy in my work life, I knew I needed a change.
In April of 2017, my husband and I took a leap of faith and began Jolific Homes, our real estate investment business. We had amazing coaches along the way. I was able to quit Corporate America by the end of that year. My husband and I then created Jolific Properties as we built our rental portfolio. Most recently, we opened our own brokerage, The Acorn Agency which is an investor-friendly agency for realtors.
I met amazing people throughout my journey with specific talents who taught me how to improve certain aspects of our business. As my knowledge from experiences grew, I found my passion reignite when I too, shared my talents. I wanted to create a platform where investors could share these superpowers within a network, sprinkled with a little bit of accountability, thus building confidence and credibility. I still have MUCH to learn so I created REIGN: Real Estate Investor Growth Network. It's a Virtual Mastermind with an interactive format because one person is never as smart as all the people in the room...or Zoom call...in our case.

At 19, he changed his name and entered into, what would become, a 15-year career as a professional actor and filmmaker. The applause and external accolades didn’t completely heal his feelings of anxiety and insecurities and he found himself more isolated than ever.
Today, Josh is the co-founder of PodMAX (an On Air Brands company), a podcast production and media company that provides training and events catered to entrepreneurs who have a meaningful message to share.
Josh is also an accomplished podcast host of two shows with over 200 combined episodes and he’s a business coach to entrepreneurs who are ready, willing, and able to say “F That NOISE!”
Today, Josh Cary is a podcast host and business coach to entrepreneurs who are ready, willing, and able to say “F That NOISE!”
“F That NOISE” in their head that’s been acting as the comfortable excuse for remaining where they are.
As a digital media and creative consultant, Josh has the uncanny ability to bring the human side out of each person. Whether it’s as a guest on his show or working directly together, you quickly feel consumed by his unique natural energy, bright outlook and creative mind.
He is also a proud father and credits his adoring two young children with helping him to turn things around and embrace the mortality of life.
Josh helps his clients ‘unmask’ themselves by leading them through poignant, important, and direct questions. This approach results in a profound and honest experience that reveals aspects, desires, and philosophies within you that have been dormant for years.
On his podcast, The Hidden Entrepreneur, Josh speaks with successful entrepreneurs, creatives, and small business owners who were also once in the darkest of hiding places so you may rediscover your world, connect beautifully with others, and excel in all you set out to do. The podcast has been downloaded in dozens of countries.
Josh can discuss:
F That Noise! The 5-step process to unmasking yourself and no longer fearing YOU. It’s much more than just an exclamation. It became the 5-part detailed process (N.O.I.S.E.) for allowing himself to accept the fear and finally adjust the score (Fear: Zero. You: Won.)
Get Ready, Willing, and Able: In order to make any move in life, you must be ready, willing and able to do so. We typically know what we want, but then subconsciously prevent our achievement by allowing one of these three modes to get in the way. Josh unravels each part in such a way that allows you to be victorious.
Accept the Awkward. Finding the comfortability within the awkward. We are all awkward in our unique and brilliant ways. This is what makes us human. Too often, we will choose to shy away from that feeling and instead alter it to give in to our fear.
Finding Your Voice. Deep down, you already know what you want to be doing. You don’t need permission. You need action. No matter your age, life is almost over. That’s the greatest news you’ll hear all day!

Rosa is a longtime radio host on KS107.5, one of the nation’s top stations AND she is an avid fitness enthusiast, AND a practicing Muslim, amongst many other things. If you know Rosa, you know she is a big personality, full of jokes, quick wit, and knows just about everything music and pop culture. What you might not know about is her deep-rooted passion in faith and how much it has helped guide her journey forward, particularly in these trying 2020 times. Rosa is the perfect example of Turmeric &Tequila, wearing many authentic hats and jugging the juxtaposition of the opposing worlds with grace. You can live in a world of business, party, and chaos, and maintain your core values, religious beliefs, take a stand for social justice… and complete a 75-day health challenge, Rosa is the proof. We cover work, race, fitness, religion, how to set up a camera:), and so much more. JV moments turning into varsity philosophy and the understanding that we never stop growing if we keep an open mind and an awareness around constant improvement. This is a human to keep an eye on, she is an important one in this word and is just getting started.
Rosa Jad
Nothing is off limits when Rosa steps into the studio! The outgoing girl who grew up avidly listening to KS1075 has now found herself in the shoes of her idols.
Born in Saudi Arabia and living in Denver since 2000, while finishing up her senior year of high school, she landed an internship with a prestigious sports radio station. In 2013, at just 17 years old, she became an on-air KS1075 personality doing weekend shifts, while being a full-time college student. Fast-forwarding 3 years later, Rosa graduated early from the University of Colorado, Denver, while simultaneously working her way up the ranks at the station.
Ready to put the city on a wave weekdays 10am - 3pm. Unapologetically herself, she is breaking barrios for Arabic woman across America.

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”
-Brené Brown
Focusing on the fellas today… finally! We often cover equality on T&T and most of the time it is through the female narrative, because I am a woman after all. Today, we are talking all things men, their emotions, what it means to “be a man” and how that meaning in itself is evolving, thank goodness. I have noted the Netflix documentary, The Masks They Live In, many times as it’s an excellent example of the discussion and awareness of American society pushing masculinity on our boys that inevitably destroys them (in short). This a much longer conversation that Kris taps into as he exemplifies a modern, evolved man. He is the father of two boys, successful businessman, entrepreneur, speaker, and mission driven to update the conversation, awareness, and perception of “what it means to be a man”. 2020 has been a crazy year to say the least, there is no better time than now to question a better way, genuinely get back to your authentic self, and work to further evolve on the personal front. Our guys need the same empathy and space that our girls do. Kris kicks off the convo with a personal childhood story that sets the tone for the rest of the conversation. He is vulnerable, open, and willing to help and /or advise anyone that asks. This is an awesome cast for everyone, particularly parents of young boys. Enjoy!
Highlights:
What it means to “Be A Man”. A boy’s and a man’s perspective. Men’s emotion, vulnerability, empathy, sympathy, awareness. Stigma. Questioning a better way. Working with, teaching, and raising happy, self-assured men. Life evolution and awakening. Making lemonade from lemons. Entrepreneurship, community, and embracing self-love to make the world a better place.

“The greatest of follies is to sacrifice health for any other kind of happiness. “
-Arthur Schopenhauer
Oh, this was a fun one and the FIRST cast I give a mild adult warning to, this is more for the ears of an 18+ year old… but, if we are really honest, you could walk down any average high school hallway and hear far more aggressive speak (if you can crack the millennial language code #botox).
On this cast I welcome, Connie Pretula, a Certified Nutritional Practitioner, Menopause Mentor, Burning Man enthusiasts (does that could if you’ve gone at least once? I think so:), and all-around specialists in having fun, enjoying life, and seeking balance in all that she pursues. Connie is bold, open, and experienced and her willingness to share and be honest made for an amazing conversation that everyone can learn something from. Including the “healthiest” alcohol drink you can order, you guessed it, TEQUILA, and she shares why. Connie’s journey is a varied one, including a wealth of corporate experience, a body building contest at 51, and pivot into the entrepreneurial world, again, Burning Man (completely SOBER!?!), and all the angles on wellness and nutrition (for life, not just competition) that you can pack in between. Wellness is a balance of all things and Connie is the living proof: fitness, nutrition, sex, mentality, community, spiritually, and continuous evolution. Let’s just say a consultation with Connie is a one stop shop, haha… but seriously. Enjoy!
The all-natural “moisturizer” that Connie recommends. Fellas take note as well, it’s a team effort… Too much? Middle school is that wayà.
Highlights:
Questioning a better way… on ALL levels. Nutrition and wellness and sexuality. Libations, liberation, and being ok talking about our bodies and minds changing as we age. It’s never too late or too early to improve your life, try something new, or start over. Open your mind, your heart, and chase what you really want to do. Full body wellness and varsity spirit… and spirits.
Connie Pretula
Nutrition is the foundation of our health, as a Certified Nutritional Practitioner and Mentor for women navigating menopause, Connie Pretula guides her clients to better living through better food choices and taking time for themselves.
Experiencing first-hand the challenges of menopause and extreme pain due to adrenal fatigue, her passion is to educate and guide women 40+ to experience the restorative and therapeutic effects of nutrition along with incorporating lifestyle enhancements. Yes, you can feel amazing in menopause!
While nurturing healthy eating habits, Connie also helps her clients understand the impact food, personal care products and lifestyle choices have on the planet. Her belief is that our health extends beyond our body, if we don’t do what is healthy for the planet, what we do for our body is of little value.
Connie’s career has focused on personalized one on one consultations, she is a seasoned public speaker, former faculty of The Institute of Holistic Nutrition and life- long learner.
She lives in Vancouver BC and works with clients in-person and virtually.
Fun Fact - Her passion for nutrition stems from personal experience and competitive body building at the age of 51.

"I am so happy and grateful now that I realize that I have the time to accomplish everything I want to accomplish in my day."
That is the affirmation that Donna gave me mid cast to elevate my spark… and it’s working:)! I am pumped to welcome Donna Deteau to the T&T mic, she is a connect from one of my fave former Grandview High School laxers, Maddie, also a T&T guest herself (Ep. 17)- you know I love connects of connects! This is an awesome cast, packed full of things you can do right now to elevate your spark, dial in your goals, and sharpen your edge. Get the mind right and universe, body, and the people you keep around you will follow. Donna lays down some small, but powerful skills you can practice on the daily without over committing to a major routine. If you are an athlete looking to elevate your game, a business person looking to make more money and see the opportunity in front of you, or if your someone looking to better your communication and relationships with people (and yourself)- this one is for you. We discuss goal setting, life skills, mindset, and the power of affirmations. We are what we think. Take notes on this one and follow up with Donna accordingly if you want to go further- I highly recommend it! Change your mind, change your life!
Highlights:
Mindset and the power of thoughts. Elevating your spark, on all levels. Practical skills you can do right now to dial in your thinking. Affirmations and goals. Intentions and knowing one’s self. Community and conscious awareness. Communication and relationships. Making money and being ok with abundance. Believing that anything is possible.
Donna Deteau
Donna was born in Texas but at the age of 8, when she and her family visited Colorado for the first time, she realized that Colorado was her “heart home.” Every day, she expresses deep gratitude to be able to live in the physical place of her heart home.
Donna spent 1/3 of her life in corporate America, 1/3 in nonprofits and 1/3 as an entrepreneur. She founded 2 other successful businesses before she became a Success Building Coach: a catering biz and a renovation biz.
She shared with me that when she was catering, she thought, “this is my purpose…to make events, parties and holidays easier and worry-free for others”. Then, when she was renovating, she thought “this is my purpose in life…to design and create living spaces for people who want a better home but don’t know how to go about creating it”.
But it was when she began coaching that she experienced true passion, jumping out of bed every single day so excited for the day to begin. She told me “I am so grateful that coaching others found me because now I’m in service to others every day of my life. My clients get the tools to understand who they really are — their true, authentic selves. And they get the tools to get exactly what they want, whether that be earn enough to retire early, purchase and live in their dream home, create a relationship and/or family, travel the world 6 months out of the year, or simply earn a 7-figure income.”
“Coaching”, she says, “is the life that I was born to do.”

“Where there is no hope, it is incumbent on us to invent it.”
-Albert Camus
I’m so xcited about this T&T Open Mic session because we are finally discussing a topic I have been waiting to unpack for a while, those experiencing homelessness. In times like these, we have more people than ever experiencing homelessness or are one paycheck away from being in that position. This is a very real reality and it’s something that anyone of us could face at any time. Today I sit down with Tyg Taylor, the Founder and Executive Director of Wholly Kicks. Wholly Kicks is a 501(c)(3)that supports those experiencing homelessness and economic disparity in North Aurora, Colorado and surrounding communities. Wholly Kicks provides new shoes, love, encouragement and mentoring to those living on the street, in the neighborhood, and in the public-school system. Tyg is a long-time pastor (over 28 years) and left his church to move to the heart of Aurora to not just help a community in need, but genuinely be a part of it. He knew it was important to be amongst the community he wanted to serve, so he moved in and established Wholly Kicks. Tyg has an incredible story of loss, triumph, and hope. He breakdown so many pieces around homelessness, including language, understanding, approaching someone in that situation, and more. I just wish I would have had this convo years ago (like ALL the open mics!!). Empathy and understanding are at the base of a better future. This cast is really for anyone and everyone, we all need to understand each other more and the sooner we do, the sooner we can get to a more peaceful space. We don’t often get to walk in each other’s shoes, but if we can have a conversation and listen, we’ll at minimum be reminded that we are all human, seeking many of the same things: safety, shelter, love, and support. Home really is where the heart is. Broaden your perspective and extend kindness- always.
Tyg”er” Taylor
is the founder and Executive Director of Wholly Kicks, a 501(c)(3) that supports those experiencing homelessness and economic disparity in North Aurora, Colorado and surrounding communities. Wholly Kicks provides new shoes, love, encouragement and mentoring to those living on the street, in the neighborhood, and in the public-school system.
For 28 years, Tyg lead an Evangelical Lutheran Church in America congregation in Monument Colorado and spent much of his time working among those living on the street in Colorado Springs. In January of 2019 he moved into the diverse neighborhood of North Aurora to live a new season of life on “mission.” Tyg now “works” as a street pastor along the Colfax Corridor, filling his days with interactions with those whom he loves most in the world.
Tyg”er” is a creator of fun cocktails, a cooker of well plated food, a grunty lifter of things CrossFit, a teacher of street things, a so-so theologian, and at least a few other things.
WHOLLY KICKS
WHO WE ARE: We are here not for income, but for outcome
Wholly Kicks is a non-profit organization whose presence in Aurora, Colorado, and the Denver Metro area, exists for the purpose of “walking with” those in impoverished areas or those at risk of or, experiencing homelessness. Through the distribution of new shoes and socks, the focus of Wholly Kicks is to mentor and build relationships in “walking with” individuals who for varied reasons, find themselves experiencing economic disparity.

This is the 3rd podcast of PodMax Live, round 2! Continuing on the “money” theme and conversation around investing, integrity, and even bringing that athlete competitive mentality to business. Chris shares his journey and process and even touches on CrossFit… some of you will either love it or fast forward ha. Either way this cast is chalk full of great info, particularly if you are parents and you are working to get into the conversation of money, wealth, and saving for your kiddos. Chris breaks it down how he works with his kids around money, how often they go to the bank, and their “inner family” savings conversations. Chris has his MBA, is a fellow podcaster, and is the author of, you guessed it, Next Level Income. Next Level Income focuses on how to make, keep, and grow your money using the “holy grail of real estate” to achieve financial independence. Get that long term, generational wealth paper! Cheers, enjoy:)
Highlights:
Competing as an athlete and as a business person. Saving, investing, real estate, long term generational wealth. Kids and money. Financial education. Financial tools, resources, books, and podcasts. “Income seldom exceeds personal development.”
-John Rohn
Today we talk INVESTING… in yourself, others, and of course, business (real estate). This is the first interview of my second PodMax Live event! I will have two more casts coming out after this one all focusing around money. You know how passionate I am about the dollar- how we earn, spend it, and invest it. Conscious consumers are a must in 2020!! Kevin is an all-around investment expert, so I am excited to welcome him on T&T to discuss the importance of investing all the way around. Kevin, like many of us, changed majors a few times, landing with a Biology Degree from UC Berkley, but really revealed entrepreneurial soul when he read the book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, by Robert T. Kiyosaki. Kevin has a wealth of experience in the real estate industry, focusing on building communities and teaching the keys to long-term wealth along the way. He specializes in low income communities and leads all personal and business initiatives with the idea of caring for people and paying it forward wherever he can. Money makes the world go round, for better or worse, so it’s great to know we have responsibility, heart-led businesses people leading the way, like Kevin. Learn about money early folks, it will make all the difference… knowing that everything that really matters cannot be bought:)
Highlights:
Paying it forward. Learning how to invest in yourself, others, and manage your money. Learn about money and learn early. Get to know yourself and know that all is right on time. Taking care of people and recognizing we are all human. Business is but a game, dial into what really matters. What is really the point? Graceful disruption and questioning a better way. Generation and mental health and wealth.

His passion is to create massive value and educate others to achieve financial freedom through active and passive real estate acquisitions.
A Los Angeles native, Mr. Dugan holds a degree from UC Berkeley with a concentration in Biology. He found his calling as an entrepreneur late in college after reading Rich Dad Poor Dad and is now on a mission to continuously create massive value for others.

“Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.”
- Charles R. Swindoll
Conscious living and continuous learning… the process never really ends! Today I welcome Dr. Lindsey Elmore to T&T and we touch on just about everything as Lindsey has a plethora of knowledge and a deeply diverse set of life experiences. Business, nutrition, marketing, injury, yoga, personal growth, and of course breakdowns and breakthroughs! Lindsey shares her journey with equal parts vulnerability and confidence, knowing that one doesn’t grow without the other. She shares that an early life eating disorder fed the need for attention and a later in life knee injury (torn ACL, just like me… and my pup Kleo:) fostered clarity in that need for attention and what it really meant to me sick/injured. The ACL injury also opened her up to a whole new world natural remedies, treatments, essential oils- all while being a pharmacist. Lindsey was feeling the juxtaposition of the Turmeric & Tequila life early on… I identified strongly (excerpt for the “being a doctor” part, ha). Lindsey is a published author and fellow podcaster, speaking in over 30 countries and leading her marketing business as strong and continuously learning entrepreneur. This is a great cast for anyone learning to embrace their imperfections, “failures”, and for all of us that are still learning on so many levels. Learn from Lindsey’s journey and please be inspired to share yours as you never know who it could help!
Highlights:
That Turmeric & Tequila life: being all things and embracing our competitive edges (aka differences). Casting a vision/ Graceful Disruption™. Self-awareness, improvement, and acceptance. Marketing and branding. Nutrition, dairy, and inflammation. Business and great quotes. Breakdowns, breakthroughs. Evolution and helping streamline someone else’s process.

Today I welcome Kris Beech, who had a 15-year professional hockey career including being drafted into the NHL at 18 and is now the Founder of AIM Mind Training in Canada. Kris shares his incredible journey as a widely sought out young athlete and managing the overwhelming pressures of going pro so young. Kris talks about his love for the game, the business side of it, and how his journey to dialed in mental health and mindfulness really began (from the inspiration of his Mom!). Over the 15 years Kris was traded numerous times, went from majors to the minors and back again, all while working to keep his personal relationships moving forward and his mental state in a safe space. It was no easy journey, but it did inspire Kris to establish AIM Mind Training, where he works with youth athletes to help flex the mental muscle alongside the physical one. Any great athlete knows, it absolutely takes the physical AND the mental to reach your full athletic potential, in addition to general happiness in life. This is an awesome cast for any athlete working to get to the next level (youth or adult) and seeking that mental competitive edge. Parents, if you have a young athletic star, this is also great for you (and your kiddo), be ahead of the game!
Highlights:
Breakdown, breakthrough. A million-dollar contract before you’re 20? Adult pressures on a kid. Questioning a better way. Managing your love for the game in a business environment. Mental health, depression, and self-awareness, real solutions for real people. Life skills through sport.
A Message from Kris:
Like any athlete, my love of athletics grew as a kid, and my desire to play was driven by pure enjoyment. I developed the greatest appreciation for the game of hockey, and I was fortunate that my skill, dedication and commitment to improvement allowed me to play in the NHL and have Like any athlete, my love of athletics grew as a kid, and my desire to play was driven by pure enjoyment. I developed the greatest appreciation for the game of hockey, and I was fortunate that my skill, dedication and commitment to improvement allowed me to play in the NHL and have a 15-year pro hockey career. But my experience as a professional was far from always pure joy.
Like any high-level athlete, there was a mix of success and adversity, and as I navigated that experience as a young adult, it became evident I was not prepared to handle the ups and downs in the mental game. I had unknowingly encouraged and solidified some thinking and behaviors that would all but eliminate my ability to enjoy the game I so deeply loved. The support I received from family and others around me helped me to realize I needed to make some changes.
After some personal research and exploration, I found training the mind in the form of meditation and mindfulness played a significant role in making those changes. Consistently training the mind enabled me to shift my thinking and make choices that uncovered my skill and ability to perform at my best and enjoy the game again. This period of my life had a significant effect on how I viewed athletics and helped me understand the importance of a proactive approach to taking care of the mental side of the game.
About AIM Mind Training
AIM Mind Training is a proactive performance and health system that creates a thriving student-athlete community.
Many things can take away from the true nature of sport and the ability to fully maximize potential, enjoyment and long-term development opportunities.
How an individual interacts with the student-athlete experience is only part of the equation.
It's the culture of the community our athletes are subjected too that will ultimately determine potential, enjoyment, and their ability to transition the student-athlete experience into many other aspects of life.
The result is a user that better understands who they are, what they want, the importance of community and how to approach life with a mindset suited for success, happiness and well-being.
- The system analyzes, guides and supports
student-athletes, parents, and coaches.
- Provides a personalized approach to cultivating
an optimal performance environment.
- Uses cutting edge technology to determine
the strengths, desires, and areas of needed
improvement in each user.
- User information is kept secure and anonymous.
- User information is used solely to enhance
the effectiveness of the system for that user.
- The system assures each user is working
with the coaches or counsellors that suit individual needs.
- Creates positive shifts in mindset and leadership
that allow our youth to flourish in any environment.

“A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.”

On the front page of FOURPOINTS Bar’s website is the is the statement (stance) from the Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance (complete statement below). Please take the time to read it in full as it highlights who FOURPOINTS Bar are as people, as a company, and the conversation we have on this week’s T&T episode. You know how passionate I am about disrupting the dollar- where it’s being spent, why, and how, particularly in major corporate settings. We cover big food (major food orgs, KRAFT etc) and their power in the consumer’s market AND in the legislation of our country. The FOURPOINTS team is not only working hard to bring a superior bar with several competitive edges to the already overcrowded CPG “bar” market (prune based fyi and it’s awesome), they are also taking things to Washington DC to play with the big dogs and work for positive social (and consumption) change from all sides. They work with several charitable organizations giving back a percentage of annual sales each year (as a start up!) and align with other fitting industry strategic partners that share in the same core values and passion for Graceful Disruption™:). I’ll leave it there- this is a good one with so many great examples on why it’s so important for businesses to take a stance on social values. That has not been status quo until now. Consumers: fire up your engines and start purchasing accordingly.
AND the have an Indie GOGO currently launched- support the cause today: https://igg.me/at/fourpoints-bar/x/23180680#/
FOURPOINTS Bar was created out of our passion for the outdoors, recreation, and clean eating, and was inspired by our family’s fight with diabetes. In 2007, after experiencing an untimely energy crash descending a 14,000 ft. peak in the Colorado Mountains during a lightning storm, we realized it was time for something different.Utilizing our sports nutrition, culinary, and wilderness athlete backgrounds, we began to experiment with different foods & recipes in an effort to craft an on-the-go and nutritionally complete bar that would better support our active lifestyles and a healthier blood sugar. The result - a slow-burn energy bar uniquely powered by prunes, with a low-glycemic load for sustained energy, without the sugar spikes and crashes. A bar isn't just a bar to us. We aren't limited by a desire to just getting outside. We also share a deep love of those wild & beautiful places and a calling to protect & preserve where we play. We are a 1% For the Planet business member and partner with other conservation non-profits to protect public lands. The FOURPOINTS: Real Food, Macronutrient Rich, Slow-Burn Energy, Ridiculously good

Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance:
The events of the past few weeks have brought our country’s systemic racism -- particularly against Black Americans -- back into the headlines. Tragically, these recent stories of violence barely scratch the surface of the injustices and discrimination that black people and people of color face every day in this country.
Environmental justice is an integral part of Conservation Colorado’s mission, and racial justice is an inseparable aspect of that work. Outdoor recreation holds a problematic history in that for many, especially people of color, the outdoors and wild places have remained inaccessible. As the Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance fights for a world with protected lands, clean air and water, we know those efforts won’t be fully realized unless every person has equitable access to the outdoors, to democratic processes, and we put an end to systematic oppression against black people and people of color.
Now almost 300 businesses strong, the Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance has impacted dozens of pro-conservation policy efforts over the years. We realize that with our collective influence comes great responsibility. It is our job to ensure that all voices are represented among our membership and within our leadership, that the Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance is an accessible program to all businesses, especially those who represent communities of color, and that we are only supporting policies that benefit all Coloradans, not just some.
We recognize and stand in solidarity with the leadership of the frontline organizations and individuals working to end racism and violence against people of color. We want a world in which access to the outdoors is a great equalizer; a place where all people can come together, be at home, and feel safe. As the Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance Steering Committee, we commit to advocating for the protections of lands, water, climate for ALL Coloradans.
Sincerely,
The Colorado Outdoor Business Alliance Steering Committee

Open Mic #4!! Today we welcome Sarah Hipps back to T&T to discuss race, the world right now, and the power in showing up. Sarah is an incredible fitness and mental wellness advocate and knows how much a certain environment can impact one’s health- physically and mentally. Sarah shares her journey as a person of color in this world thus far and highlights ideas of shaking up our own realities and realizing a degree of brainwashing has occurred. We can justify things if the history books say so right? No. Reality is nothing more than applied meaning, OG philosophy, as I always say. We (my fellow white folks) need to question what realities we currently subscribe to and be open to shifting them greatly. We discuss specific examples on how things have been “marketed” a certain way (#propaganda) and how we have been fed certain “truths”. We cover privilege, colorism, ageism, the difference between a white person’s experience in certain situations vs. a black person’s, and businesses working to do things the right way with inclusivity, diversity, and equality at the forefront of the conversation. In the meantime- work hard to show up, do your homework, research, and keep the heart and mind open. Great, in-depth and enlightening perspective is provided- thank you Sarah, appreciate you and I can’t wait to see what is next for you!!

Open Mic #3! This time Chloe Barnes joins us- she is a great friend, entrepreneur, speaker, biz leader, and so many more things, but most importantly MISSION DRIVEN. Don’t be surprised if you here her name again soon. Chloe has an incredible story/upbringing and even more notable work ethic. I was pumped to sit down at talk with her (again!) about her journey thus far and her perspective on the world right now. We specifically address “Anti: Racism: Fixed to Growth mindset” (see graphic). We discuss how important it is to switch and open your mind, be proactive, and really listen (to my white peeps). We also specifically address the comment of “I don’t see color”. This is an important statement, listen in as Chloe shares a personal story on why seeing color and acknowledging is critical. Cheers to evolution… let’s keep the needle of change moving in the right direction. Please check out Chloe’s page and all the wonderful resources she shares regarding race and antiracism, in addition to all of her entrepreneurial and professional pursuits!
Chloe Barnes is a Chicago grown and New York known former Division I Women’s Basketball player turned social entrepreneur, community builder, writer, speaker and advocate whose world crashed when she was forced to retire from basketball prematurely due to injury. Determined to prevent other athletes from feeling the confusion that she felt after it was time to leave the game behind; Barnes decided to start her first company, Chicago Tribune Big Idea Award Winning, Elle Grace Consulting, LLC a sports consulting agency that was dedicated to helping high school and college athletes thrive in life post sports.
Barnes led her company successfully for three years before she decided that it was time to pivot and embark on a new journey. Determined to impact young professionals not just in Chicago, but around the world, Barnes moved to New York City where she relentlessly pursued her purpose (helping athletes navigate the “What’s Next?” phase post sport) and her passions (using social platforms to build community through storytelling and inspiring civic action and professional empowerment through education) to co-found The Prolific Company. A social-impact organization that connects former athletes to meaningful careers post sport.
Barnes' entrepreneurial work has led her to be named one of Chicago Urban League's nextSTARTUP participants, one of the country's "Top Sports Professionals" by Front Office Sports, and one of the youngest professionals to hold national leadership positions at organizations like the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals and Women Leaders in College Sports.
When she isn’t working, Barnes is active in her community and serves as a fearless advocate for the rights and opportunities of athletes, women and girls around the world.

I am excited to welcome back “somewhat resident T&T guest/co-host”:), and great friend, Ashley Knight! Ashley keeps it real and that’s one of the many reasons we love and appreciate her. We dive right in with current and hot topics around where the world is at today, specifically around race. Ashley is graciously open around her life experience and some very recent experiences that she wanted to bring further light to as a learning opportunity for anyone listening. She has some impactful examples around social media, managing friends that have views that differ from their parents, and even a racists experience that she remembers from grade school. One this we do know, racism is learned and we are here to stop that now. Ashley also brings some words from her mom that are particularly moving. To witness her read them on the mic was incredibly powerful and moving for me- one generation reading the words of another. I hope you too can take learnings and inspiration from this cast to keep moving the needle in the right direction, so our kids have the opportunity to read a very different experience from us.

Turmeric & Tequila’s Misson: To inspire positive, radical, social evolution.
I created this podcast quite simply to provide a platform for anyone that needs a space to share their voice. There are far too many people unheard. Given the current situation in America and now around the world, it was a no brainer to open up the mic to people of color. I am happy to keep the mic open with a never ending “T&T Open Mic Series”. The T&T Open Mic Series is literally that, an open mic. I am happy to participate in the conversation with you OR happy to listen and learn. It’s for you. No red tape, except please no hate:) If you have a message to share, please reach out to me. I will aim to get these conversations posted as fast as I can and continue to do so in the future alongside the other “regular scheduled casts”.
I welcome Raven Roberts back to T&T on this cast, she graciously joins us while at her home in NYC. Raven is a powerhouse in her own right and I am so thankful she came on to share her views on what is going on in the world right now. She is no stranger to activism, colorism, and the need for a new deeper racial consciousness and conversation across the board. We talk about it all… systemic racism, what to do as a white person, as a black person, racism in fashion… we even cover how to address branding in the current climate?! I won’t say too much more, please listen to the end where she nails it with one quote. If you are looking for a way to help and contribute to positive change, please check out Raven’s social channels. She has a plethora of actionable items that you can do right now and continue to do, so we see change and evolution continuously happening.
Appreciate you Raven, blessed to call you a friend!! XO

I had the pleasure of partaking in the PodMax Live 2020:
PodMAX, in its original format, is a one day in-person/live event where entrepreneurs have the chance to record as a guest and be interviewed on top podcast shows in their industry. NOW: it’s time for PodMAX Global: the ONLINE PodMAX experience from On Air Brands! Be part of the same high-vibe, high-energy experience we’ve perfected… Now ONLINE and VIRTUAL for entrepreneurs across the globe!
It was an incredible day aligning podcasters and entrepreneurs, inventors, and varsity humans across the board to converse. I didn’t know what to expect, but it was cooler than any expectation if did have. I was fortune to have 3 very different casts all in one day covering a verity of topics. Robert and I had an awesome conversation around EMDR- a very forward-thinking approach to human optimization, if you will. EMDR is fully explained in the cast, but is a newer approach to optimizing your life experience and mental wealth. Faster than talk therapy and perhaps more effective? I won’t say too much more, but when I heard Robert compare generation wealth to generational mental health, I knew the conversation was more than needed. We are all human, including our parents, coaches, and mentors…. We need to unpack and let go accordingly. I can’t wait to cast with Robert again as the mental health convo is goring (thank goodness) and is long overdue. He is ahead of the game, no pun intended☺.
Highlights:
Mental health, mental wealth. Talk therapy vs. EMDR. What is EMDR? Why EMDR? Me, my family, my experience, and I. It’s all relative. Questioning a better way. Years of self-improvement vs. months, days or hours. Why improve? Is how I feel ok? What can I do to change, for the long term? Addiction, self-loathing, life. Unity in humanity. Resolution. Solution. Evolution.

“Why aren’t you married”, “why aren’t you wife’d up yet”, “you’re such a catch tho”… smiling, #smh :) It’s 2020 and these questions are still flowing like wine… and/or tequila. It’s understandable though, we live in a pop culture, multimedia inspired world having consumed millions of messages daily on how life should be once we “grow up”. Go to high school, go to college, get a job, get married, have kids. That’s the recipe, welcome to the American Dream, sponsored by major multibillion-dollar corporation (flip over that Hallmark card for logo’d proof). I know this for a fact as I am a branding and marketing professional and quite literally stated this cast to start shedding the light on some truths AND humans that are challenging status quo- not because it’s wrong, but because it’s not their truths and the idea of living the way you actually want to, is actually a thing.
Take a load of potential prince suitors, no rescuing needed here. We CAN do CrossFit together however, so stay ready. On this cast, dating expert (I labeled her that, remember branding pro here:) and Founder/Creator of You’re Such A Catch Podcast, Erin Ramsey, and I discuss being single over thirty, dating tales, and how we explain to the world why we are still single/living our dream. Surly there must be something wrong- did we mess of the recipe above? Naa, universe, God, Madonna in charge here… all things in due time. If you are in a similar boat, male or female, and happy where you are at or en route to the goal, but have a hard time explaining to the world why you are not doing something you are supposed to be doing, this cast is for you. #stopexplaning . All things start with selflove, but it takes years (at least for us) to fully comprehend one of the truest clichés. Turns out your core values matter and your intuition aka gut might be the best judge of all… follow and listen to both accordingly. We can save you years of bad breakups, keeping the path clear for the human that compliments you, not completes you… if that’s what you actually want.
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Standing out vs. fitting in. The cost of following the leaders vs. following your heart. Being single and seeking the one. Bad dates, good dates, and terrible dates. Bff’s and the support team, when it’s good and too much. Taking time to get to know yourself so you can recruit the right team. Career goals and balance. Breaking up stereo types and being aware of self-talk. Enjoying life not by the book. Doing the work now so the reward is later. Trusting yourself.
Erin Ramsey
Founder and Creator of You’re Such a Catch Podcast
If she had a dollar for every time she was told, "You're Such A Catch," she'd be making it rain, but rather than cashing in singles, she's putting a check next to the word single as it relates to her relationship status. We are further diving into nutrition/wellness AND business here! I sit down with 3 awesome ladies who were all long-time athletes turned pharmaceutical reps turned entrepreneurs. They share their journeys into the pharma world, their experience in it, why they got out, and how the whole process inspired them to do what they do now- help people! If you see the glam life of a pharma rep and wonder if it’s true (the clothes, the cars, the money), it is, to a degree. What is not as easily seen is the daily grind, which ends up being not that glamorous and that’s not to mention the process of questioning what you are actually selling. These 3 ladies keep it real discussing prevention vs. prescription, food vs. medicine, and questioning a better way in general. At this point MOST of us know there is no quick fix, it’s a lifelong, daily decision to live well. We, the people, are in charge of our health, we are the ones responsible. That being said, there is SO much to know, incredible marketing companies with endless budgets (for better and worse) and doctors that only have so much power, find your “healthy advisor team” (doctors, nutritionists, coaches, athletes, enthusiasts, etc.) and keep them close. This is an ongoing conversation:).
Highlights:
Prevention vs. prescriptions, questioning a better way. Generational lifestyles. Food as fuel. Responsibility and seeking the truth. Pharma reps and their real experience, drug dealers?
Jen Stiffler is a Southern California native, D1 scholarship athlete, coach’s wife, Mom to three, CHD warrior advocate. A recovering pharmaceutical rep of 10+ years turned whole food advocate. Founder and CEO of FREEasaMOTHER, where she loves helping Mama’s not just survive but thrive in Motherhood and business. Jen loves helping women create a life of abundance and joy through health and wealth. She enjoys working out, live music, supporting her husband’s team, making memories with her three kids and coaching people to love, live and serve bigger. She’ll share her transformative story from skeptic to all in and how she broke her golden handcuffs in order to be a fully present mother. Also, her journey through two children born with undiagnosed heart defects and how it led her to fix her heart and create a life that prioritized her families hopes and dreams not her employers. @Iamfreeasamother

She earned National Marketing Director in just over two years and is raising up incredible leaders, including her first National Marketing Director. Jennifer is retired from a successful career in corporate America and for the last 10 years has been a stay-at-home mom with her husband, Ben and two boys, Sutton and Luke. She was Captain of her collegiate field hockey team, top tier in her pharmaceutical sales force and a successful Realtor but none of it compares to the passion and purpose she experiences helping others live healthier, stronger lives. Jennifer’s Juice Plus+ business has created an a five-figure a month income stream that gives her family choices and the option to say “yes” to live life fuller and bigger. She is dreaming again and enjoying helping others fulfill their dreams too. @projectdreamomma

You are what you eat ! AND we are home consuming right now… food, media, oxygen… at least the air is cleaner during this time! What is the real impact of the food we are putting into our bodies? Are there larger questions we should be asking? What about our kids and youth nutrition? So. Many. Things!
Join me, Dr. Teddy Brose, and nurse, Karla Jones, as we discuss food as medicine and how we navigate these conversations with medical staff, kids, and ourselves. They share their journeys to a healthier lifestyle and how simple changes (while tough at first) can change the trajectory of your health journey and the loved ones you look out for. We talk about responsibly and why taking charge of your own health and knowledge around what you’re consuming is so important. We discuss how to lead the way for kids to make better nutritional choices, even while at school or at a friend’s house and how to provide space for further conversation so they really understand why. We talk about little changes you can make now to eat cleaner and change the trajectory of your health. The wellness, health, and fitness spaces are all business- arm yourself with knowledge!
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Why don’t doctors and nurses know more about nutrition? They are not nutritionists:) Kids and food. Kids and sugar. Plant based vs. the standard American diet. Changing one small thing vs. everything. Wellness, fitness, and business. What to do now?

Things happen in life. How we process those “things” is everything. The hard part of being able to process things is not always having the tools to do so. On this cast I sit down with Jason Hopcus and we discuss life, mental health, stress, stigma, and how to approached uncomfortable conversation, and of course, connection. Jason is the Founder and President of The Connection Project, “The mission of the Connection project is simple- to strengthen the connection to ourselves and others”. Jason has a wealth of experience in life with equal parts education and evolution. We talk about how really hard things are usually the things that define our respective journeys the most and how it is time to celebrate and share that recovery process. There is really only one way to get through anything and that is together- through connection. The Connection Project meets people where they are, reshaping how we (the community) think about and speak about “mental illness” and/or more comfortably digested, stress. Stress is often championed in our society as many of us wear it as a badge of honor. And given this forced slow down because of CV19, we all know a rebrand of thinking around stress is needed!
The Connection Project focuses on four main pillars: Health (mental and physical), job, money, and tribe, through four key elements: community conversation, aligned partnerships, resource tools, and then training and education. They want to immediately welcome people in and surround them with people like them, likely letting some of the initial boundaries about connecting on any topic, aside. We need The Connection Project more than ever in society and now that CV19 is here, it’s critical. Join our conversation and please check out The Connection Project if you feel like it sounds like a community that would be beneficial for you or anyone you know. Stay safe out there, we are all in this together!
Highlights:
Mental health and wellness. Community, connection, stigma, and worth, but uncomfortable conversation. The upsides to the downside. Breakdown and breakthrough. Celebrating the journey. Gratitude and strength. Humility and empathy. Graceful disruption.
Jason C. Hopcus
In the effort to effect change, Jason Hopcus openly shares his personal story of the struggle with mental health. He battled his own king of hell to climb from the darkest semblance of human self- struggle. As a result, Jason fully acknowledges the amount of work it takes, how necessary it is to share each other’s journeys, and why we as a society need to move the needle towards unashamed conversation. Jason is a catalyst for a powerful, cultural shift because everyone, directly or indirectly, is affected by mental health.
“The stigmas of mental health cannot be unraveled unless we begin to celebrate those who have pulled themselves back up... and then some. It’s time to acknowledge recovery success.”
Jason’s mission is to advance human connection by embracing the conversation of fighters; the folks whose journeys from black to light give hope to those that deserve a 2nd or even a 3rd chance to be the ambassadors of conversation. The present narrative about mental health is often perpetuated through sad, scary, or traumatic events, which typically overlook individuals who are simply struggling with functional life issues. The Connection Project takes a fresh approach by focusing on those who have turned their personal struggle around to champion for a community-driven cause. Through the raw focus on the individual, Jason nourishes honest conversation to birth a system of ‘next level’ social responsibility.
Jason Hopcus is a motivator and catalyst for cultural change within organizations. He believes that connection to one’s self, one’s transparency, and one’s passion to connect, allows individuals to live a wholly authentic, full life. He creates systems of people working to deepen their relationships to their work, their play, and ultimately our world. He presently serves as non-profit President/CEO of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) of Arapahoe/Douglas Counties and is Founder of The Connection Project, a for-profit company.

“You have to believe the world is waiting for what you’re bringing” -Jennifer Peters
How do you fill the gap between who you are and what you what you do (personally and professionally)? How important is it that you feel fulfilled in what you do?
It’s easy to day dream AND it’s hard to actually chase those dreams… AND believe that they can come true, even when others tell you otherwise.
Resilience, commitment, belief, and teamwork are all key ingredients in the recipe for success as an entrepreneur- this cast is proof:). Tune in and take notes as I sit down with fellow entrepreneur and longtime friend, Jennifer Peters. Jennifer is the Founder of Just Be Kitchen in the heart of Denver, Colorado. It’s a local fave and the ONLY 100% scratch kitchen free of gluten, grain, and refined sugars. Jennifer founded JBK to fill the gap between who she is and what she does. She is a longtime athlete, food enthusiasts, and knew there was a better way to do “healthy food” for everyone, even people with a lot of food restrictions. She shares her personal and biz journey, highlighting her ability to be flexible, embrace opportunity to innovate and progress (even when unexpected), and her unwavering belief that “if you build it, they will come”, is her truth and the space where she feels fulfilled in her mission.
If you haven’t heard of JBK- you will! They were recently featured on Diner, Drive ins, and Dives, and have had a host of local and national coverage. Jennifer and JBK are making waves, we can’t wait to see what is next as they make the world a better place one Fulfilled Burrito at a time.
Highlights:
Being a restaurant owner in the midst of CV19. Dream, believe, achieve. Trail blazing, changing minds, disrupting stats quo. Eating healthier, treating yourself kindly, avoiding the doc. Knowing that your tribe is waiting for you to show up. Graceful disruption. Questioning a better way. Sticking to your why. Bleeding the brand and the mission.
Jennifer Peters, Just Be Kitchen Founder
With a mission to serve mindful mouthfuls from a conscious kitchen with kindness on a plate, Just BE Kitchen is more than just a place to grab some grub. In addition to food made with love and care from scratch, Just BE Kitchen is a place of connection & to feel cared and nourished. As Denver’s only 100% scratch kitchen free of gluten, grain & refined sugar, Just BE Kitchen prides itself in servicing diners who have a lot of restrictions. However, its menu doesn’t scream “health food.” Instead, Just BE Kitchen’s menu is a fun play on traditional comfort foods, yet done in a wholesome & healthy way so that people with allergies or who choose to eat a whole-based diet do not have a feeling of lack or sacrifice.
“We want everyone to feel nourished and cared for when they are here. We want our guests to be able to have a ‘mindful moment’ at Just BE Kitchen, and feel connected to their minds and bodies. Overall wellness is essential to living a meaningful life, and for us, food is how we contribute to our guest’s wellness, because food is at the heart of total well-being.”—Jennifer Peters, Owner.

The older we get, the more we see how it all connects… all of it! If you want to maximize positive output, you have to learn the balanced recipe of covering all the bases, as much as you can, in all that you do. That sounds overwhelming, but it’s really about pulling back and potentially doing less if you can identify what habits, behaviors, or beliefs are actually contradicting and delaying your growth, evolution, or gains in general. For example, you can follow a high end, elite training regiment, but if you fuel like crap and don’t sleep- it’s going impact the way you show up to work out. Thus, limiting your ability to perform and then impacting the overall progression of your growth as an athlete/competitor. It’s not about training more, it’s about training smarter and looking at a “whole life” approach to living in general… not just to train better and more effectively:). How can we pull back the curtain and see what’s really going on? To be a better athlete, spouse, business owner, person? If you are into health and wellness or new to the conversation, you quickly realize that addressing one thing only leads to another and you see how everything really connects.
On this cast, I sit down with longtime friend and personal go-to for all things health, Dr. Missy Albrecht. I have known Missy for over 6 years and she has seen me through the thick of my competitive athletic journey, professional marketing/branding biz and so much more. We riminess of the good ol’ days of common connects (humans and beliefs) and the initial conversations and really helped propel both of our personal and professional missions. Missy shares her journey as a medical professional, entrepreneur, and human balancing science with energy and spirit in an evolving wellness practice field. If you are into human optimization on a very high level or looking to just wake up feeling better, this is a good listen. Little tricks and inside views are shared from a doc that has been around the block in many environments with a wealth of knowledge and experience to back the convo. Health, wellness, nutrition… it can be a lot and it’s so hard to find great voices to lead the way without a marketing agenda. Dr. Missy is your go-to. We scratch the surface on so many larger, deeper convos around overall health, but this cast is a great general intro to those bigger, more specific conversations… reach out to Dr. Missy accordingly:)
Highlights:
All around health, wellness, and balance. Inner and outer health, mental, physical, and even organ movement? Harboring negative energy. Exuding positive vibes. The power of connecting. Human connection. Body and mind and organ connection. Movement is medicine, our muscles, our minds, our organs. The associate between stored energy and belief. Human and body support, it takes a village. The evolution of the environment, the career, the self. Filter your audience, maximize your impact.

Following your dreams are hard (#cardio), and often times those dreams change. As we grow, evolve, and gain experience (usually the hard way), we get clear on what we want AND more specific on what we actually need. Navigating the process from the initial idea of wanting to change/chase the dream to actually taking that first step in the chase is the HARDEST part.
On this cast I sit down with varsity human and all-around go-getter, Janine Shae. Janine is a fitness enthusiast, hailing from the financial world, where she stayed only long enough to realize it wasn't for her. She dodged the golden handcuffs and she took the leap to chase her young entrepreneurial dreams. She shares her journey from the corporate world to buying a hotel in a hard part of town to the startup world and back again, in search of investors- all while under 35! She is now launching her second biz from pure heart space AND her clear visibility of a gap in the fitness market. Introducing Flex Gym Share. Let's just say it's like the Lyft of gym memberships... sharing your gym membership with fellow fitness enthusiasts- benefitting the athlete, gym, and everyone else involved along the way. Check this cast out to hear the full 411... it's packed full of wise words and noteworthy lessons, particularly if you are an entrepreneur. Like Janine, her team is impressive. If you haven't heard of Flex gym Share yet, you will (her team members are from Facebook, Uber, etc). Take notes on this one!
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. Entrepreneurs. Trial and error. Full circle learnings, building the foundation. Prioritizing what you really want in life- kids, time, spouses. Taking the leap to a better day and way!
Janine Shae:
Janine is a former investment banker turned serial entrepreneur. For years she’s found strength and sanctuary in the gym. Her motto is, “Through discipline comes joy,” which she finds especially true with a workout regimen. Janine saw a huge opportunity to help more people find joy through fitness by eliminating the factors that compromise discipline. She founded Flex with the goal to remove cost as a barrier for millions to live healthier lives, and to provide easier access to fitness facilities wherever you go. Janine is a champion for gyms and equally dedicated to helping operators build more profitable and engaged communities.

This is a fun one! I was fortunate enough to attend PodFest 2020 in Orlando, FL, before all the craziness of CV19 went down… like right before! What is PodFest? In a nutshell, it’s a convention for podcasters, podcast enthusiasts, or people looking to get into podcasting… AND some of the best human beings I have ever met. I went to this conference to learn about all things podcast (we new out here!), but had no ideas that I would be embraced by a community of passionate humans with one main thing in common: we are all here to speak out. This was one of the most diverse situations I have ever been in, it was nothing short of beautiful. Most casts are yet to be monetized, so the passion project status was real. The community is largely made up of people saw a lack of light being shined on certain topics and they took it upon themselves to shine that light and share their voice. Casts ranged from military and transiting into civilian life, to managing celebrities, to life, death, coping, healing, sports, recovery, and things you can’t think of, but there are casts about it, because you should:). Chris Kirmitsos, the Founder of PodFest, leads with the heart and set the tone early on that this was an inclusive event AND community as a whole, led by kindness and care for one another. Chris exemplifies the idea of “attuite reflects leadership” as there many acts of kindness and support throughout the weekend. People helping people and furthermore, helping them share their messages. It was beyond inspiring.
I had to take the opportunity to gather my new casting BFF’s and cast at the event… ordered a 1.75 of (QUALITY) tequila, a couple pizzas, and pressed record! The background noise is a character in itself and we have some special guests drop in, including THE William Hung, who has an awesome message and story, well beyond American Idol. Check out bios and casts of all these great ladies (links below): Sara, Melissa, Vivana, and Heather – who share their story, their cast, their advice, and their orders to the universe! THANK YOU, LADIES, for joining me and sharing your good words, can’t wait for next year!!
Highlights: The whole darn cast!! Turmeric, tequila, pizza. Starting a podcast. Goals for a cast. Fear, life, hiking, spirituality, and everything in between. Advice, messages to the universe, something larger than us. KINDNESS and casing about our fellow humans. Missions and magic. Good people, good deeds, and enjoying the ride. Wash your hands and cheers!

Drop in guest, David Orozco, his cast: One Small Bite! Check him out!
No surprise, big choices in life are HARD! Many of those “big life decisions” are made conscious or unconsciously with the influence of what we “should” do… Likely something like this: you grow up, graduate high school, go to college, get a job, get married, have kids, retire and that’s that. This is the American Dream we all thought we wanted, would have, and would be happy with. It goes something like that until it doesn’t haha… most of us know that the more your plan it, the more that plan changes. I was not that kid or planner, I mainly just wanted to graduate high school, play lacrosse and look forward to having my freedom to do what I wanted. It wasn’t even an entrepreneurial dream, just freedom seeking. Not even sure where that comes from, but independence is in my top 2 core values, so things make sense:) #onbrand
Deepak Chopra said is well, “we are all under the hypnosis of social conditioning” in his latest book, Meta Human (meta meaning beyond). Meaning, our realities (and expectations) are what they have been conditioned to be. Until you question a better way! This podcast conversation really ties back to most of the podcasts I have- the base line theme of really getting to know yourself and what YOU want, not what society wants for you (or wants you to want). The American Dream is wonderful if that’s what you authentically want!
Myself and two good friends, Nadia and Sarah, talk about our life experience thus far and why we have made the choices we have. I am still a bit on the fence as far as kiddos, but Sarah and Nadia are firm in their decisions to have not have children and they discuss why, their conversations with family about it, and evolving stigma doing something outside of the norm. It’s a breath of fresh air to see and hear two passionate women, strong in their convictions and missions to the world to be so clear on a big decision- a decision that is usually not the popular one. Regardless of the decision topic, we could all take some notes from these two on getting to know ourselves, what we want, and standing strong in those choices!
Highlights:
Taking time to get to know yourself. Having and not having children. Choosing the unpopular choice. Following your heart. Mission and impact. Dogs, nieces, nephews, and plants:). Having money, time, and energy for other things. People who were meant to be parents and people who love their kids, but wouldn’t choose to have children again. Reality without jedgement. Make yourself happy, make the world a better place.
Nadia Horvat:
Nadia is a Colorado native currently residing in Aurora. She has always had a desire to help people achieve their goals, and this passion quickly led to her becoming a top personal trainer at Greenwood Athletic Club and has established her as an industry leader for 20 years.
Her need for helping clients achieve their health goals easily translated into helping them find their perfect home. According to Nadia, "Your health and your home are two of the greatest investments a person can make and should be treated as such." She has a can-do attitude and aims to make the entire real estate process as seamless as possible, whether it's a home purchase or a home sale. She is well respected, has an unparalleled standard of work ethic and drive, and is dedicated to making sure everything is done to ensure her clients' success and satisfaction.
In 2018 and 2019 Nadia was on one of the top ranked teams in the state of Colorado. Additionally, in 2020 was awarded Denver's Rising Star Agent.

Who knew we’d go from deadlifts for time to dead ass serious convo around how we evolve in our time? Focusing on how we slow down instead of speeding up?… What happened to us!? Evolution… and botox. Worry not. Some things will always remain on brand #corevalues. On this cast I sit down with long time fitness fam and Colorado OG Crossfitters, Courtney and Brandon Miracle. We have known each other for over 10 years and have seen CrossFit grow and expand to what it is today- from the farm up. Courtney and Brandon own CrossFit Surge, one of the longest running and most successful CrossFit gyms in Colorado. They have seen the cf fitness phenomenon as competitors, business owners, and business partners. AND they are still married!! I joke, but maintaining a biz, a competitive athlete’s schedule, kiddos, pups, and all in-between are no easy feats. The real cardio in life is juggling the balance and prioritizing. Responsibilities over ego.
Like Courtney and Brandon, fitness and sports have been the entrance doors for me questioning a better way. How can I sleep better, eat better, train better… which eventually opened doors to the mental game and further, deeper questioning. How do I actually feel? Is my body telling me something? Maybe it’s not supplements I need, maybe it’s mediation and vision board? And what does that mean? It took me about 5-7 years to really dig into not only knowing myself as an athlete, but as a whole human. From core values, to allergies, to intuition. How can you be your best self when you don’t know what you are fully dealing with? You wouldn’t go compete without the proper training prep and gear, why would the game of life be any different? I have been so lucky to have had so many different people aid and guide in my personal and athletic journeys, but I really had to piece different things together to make it all fit- one group for training, one for recovery, one for nutrition, one for mental and brain wellness, etc. SO, when I saw Courtney and Brandon launching The Shift Project, a whole human approach to human optimization- I knew we had to cast!! They have streamlined a whole process for you to become your best self, from anywhere! It’s for athletes, parents, entrepreneurs- any and every one looking to live their best life as fully as possible. Tune into hear the details and how their real-life experience, evolution, and commitment to the greater good has brought them to where they are today. It was an absolute pleasure to catch up (and cheer on) my meathead, spiritually enlightened friends as they make the world a better place one human at a time. I am so glad they are coaches, business owners, and role models for a successful relationship… but, mostly that they are parents shaping the next generation that will evolve and lead even faster than we did:)!!
Highlights:
Human optimization. The whole human approach, The Shift Project. From PR's in the gym to PR's in life. Learning the hard way and speaking from experience. Ethos, credibility, ego, and humility. Competing in sports, CrossFit, and life. Balance and checking in with yourself. Universe speaks, breakdown and breakthrough. Passion and persistence to do good for the world, starting with ourselves. Questing a better way. Varsity humans.
Courtney and Brandon Miracle
Courtney and Brandon are coaches at heart and serial entrepreneurs. Founders and owners of CrossFit Surge, The Happiness Endeavor and co-owners of Rom-Aid. Their entrepreneurial journey started over 15 years ago, but got a lot more real when they opened CrossFit Surge 10 years ago. Over the last 10 years they have learned that there is so much more to helping people become happy and healthy, and the workouts are often the easy part. They created the Total Shift Project to help their clients understand that the life, happiness and health they want is just a few simple SHIFTS away. They believe in a whole life, whole human approach. Connection of mind, body, soul and business that starts from the inside out. They have 2 amazing daughters who are 4 and 6. Their daughters are truly the reason they have become so passionate about helping the world SHIFT. Their mission is to teach them that they can be strong, passionate and accomplish anything they want in this world, and do it without stress, struggle or overwhelm!

One of the hardest things to do in life is to let go. Often times you know it’s coming or it’s necessary, but it doesn’t make the process any easier. We have no training in this, so the natural inclination is to hold on… personally, professionally, spiritually, relationships, ideas, narratives, etc. We cling to what we think we need. Change is hard all the way around and to admit that something is no longer serving you- something that you love, have created, spent a lot of time on, are committed to, or is part of your identity, is WORK. We often get to a space where we can literally no longer bare the situation and come to a choice point. Ideally, you let go, have some time, and can positively reflect on a hard decision that was the right decision and realize how happy you are in moving on. This process will continue throughout our lives no matter what and the sooner we can be aware of the need to let go in situations, the better. It’s a constant check in point on all things with ourselves. How is XYZ really serving me? If it’s not, we need to let go.
On the cast fitness and wellness rock star, entrepreneur, leader, and longtime friend, Andria Bever, and I discuss scenarios in our worlds where it was HARD, but necessary to move on. Both of us are entrepreneurs, contractors, and creators- anyone in that space knows, things move fast and are constantly changing. Business plans change, people change, budgets change, lots of variables… but that’s also what makes it fun:). We dive into the personal and professional, but focus on businesses and situations that we have built from the ground up and at some point, had to let go and move forward. Like me, Andria is someone that bleeds the brand. There is no middle ground, we are either all in or all out… balance is also a learning process:). We are both a bit type A, so we’ll commit until it’s right... or until we make it right. Right? Naa, we have both acquired an awareness on when it’s time to LET GO. Hopefully this cast can somewhat streamline your process in moving on if that is a current space you are in or choice point you are at. Let our work, work for you!!
Whatever you believe, you can rest assure that there is a larger order to things. Often times our hardest decisions are the ones that point us in the right direction. Trust yourself, your gut, and the good people around you and advise you accordingly. The next thing WILL serve you.
Highlights:
Letting go. It’s in the stars. Larger order. Bleeding the brand. Creating, building, and establishing a brand, only to let it go. Choosing your own path, even when it’s not the popular choice. Trusting your young self and being aware of how what you should be doing (or what you love) shows up early in life… go back to that kiddo!! Breakdown, breakthrough. Evolution and revolution. The next big thing.
Andria Bever:
My love for sports began at a young age, which allowed me to discover my calling early in life. I found a passion for wellness and discovered the value of taking care of our bodies in order to obtain peak performance.
My career began in 2001 as a Soft Tissue/Stretch Therapist at Exos (teamexos.com, formerly Athletes Performance) from 2004-2011. This setting taught me the value of Recovery for optimal on-field performance. My experience working with professional athletes gave me unique insights into helping the weekend warrior reach his/her potential. This belief became one of the guiding principles of Denver Sports Recovery. As Co-Founder of DSR my work extended far beyond the realm of Soft Tissue and Stretch Therapy. I tapped into my entrepreneurial spirit and ran all aspects of the business. I defined the brand and led the business culture by hiring like-minded professionals, created and implemented all Systems and Processes, managed vendor relationships and established strategic partnerships.
@andriabever19
LOL… laugh out loud. Love out loud. Live out loud. All the things, out loud. If you know me, out loud is a comfort zone:), mostly because I naturally have no volume control. Perhaps my creator knew I’d have a podcast one day? (Thank you God, Madonna, glitter, and tequila)… Who knows, but what I do know, after MANY years of uncomfortable biz, sports, personal, and life conversations- humor can save the day. In our current reality, many tough conversations and decisions are coming to the table, thank goodness, and we need find common ground and connection to communicate effectively, with open minds. The range of education, exposure, and tolerance (and so much more) varies greatly person to person. It’s hard to broch tough convos, to want to have them, and then to know how to have them. What about tough convos with kids? There is no rule book for any of this AND communication is the one thing we need the most right now. So, knowing that all things might be imperfect and that there are likely many uncontrolled variables with every tough convo, I offer humor as an entrance point. This is a skill in itself, hence I am SO excited to have Debbie Scheer on the show with me to cover her background and how her gift with humor has been a powerful entrance point to heavy conversations and challenging points in life. Debbie is gracious, smart, experienced, quick, and humble. She has mastered the art of communicating a heavy message with a comforting wave of humor surfing in the larger topic at hand. It’s a vital skill set that we should all embrace. Enjoy a good listen, notes suggested:)
Highlights:
Humor. Communication with adults, kids, and everything in between. Stand up comedy, fundraising, auctions. Sex Ed. Life pivot points that are blessing in disguise. Following your heart… out loud. Motherhood and adoption. Positive energy and embracing the universe looking out for you. It takes a village. LOL.
Debbie Scheer is a speaker, emcee, benefit auctioneer, and humor coach/strategist who resides in Denver, CO. with her two children.
As a speaker, Debbie effortlessly uses humor as a way to break through the discomfort that prevents us from talking about the things that we NEED to be talking about. Her motto is, if we can laugh about it then we can surely talk about it, regardless of what the ‘it’ is.
When Debbie isn’t speaking, emceeing, or raising money for nonprofits, she can be found forcing her children to hike with her in the Colorado mountains. You can’t miss them on the trail because she is the one shouting, “WE LIVE IN THE MOST BEAUTIFUL STATE IN THE COUNTRY”, while her boys let out deep sighs of annoyance as they eye roll their way along the trail.

When the universe quits encouraging you to follow your heart and finally makes you... this cast is about a conscious career change that highlights one person's journey to his most purposeful space:)
On this cast I sit down with long time lax and fitness fam brother, Dave Loudenslager. We have known each other for over ten years, both played lacrosse and then both got swooped into CrossFit and weightlifting. We have certainly seen each other "grow up(ish)" over the years, so this was a very cool conversation to highlight the personal and professional evolution (or lack thereof, HA). Dave is a long-time educator, coach, and mindful human being. His journey is the perfect example of consciously blending passion and professional worlds to fuel his new business venture, The Athlete Mindset. I won't say too much from there, but it's a fun one. If you are looking to truly do a job that highlights all your natural gifts and acquired skill sets, but are not sure how or when to make that leap, this is a great cast for you!
Highlights:
Fitness/sports makes friends. Truly living the turmeric and tequila lifestyle. Aka enjoying life and leading fellow humans. The education system. When you get into a job to help people, but lack the agency to do so. Finding and creating a better way. School and what they do and don’t teach us. The evolution of the student and the curriculum. What do our kids need now? Sports and mindfulness. Merging the physical with the mental. Fun.

If you are in health and wellness, you know at this point it’s not just about diet and exercise. It’s about a full, well rounded approach to how you live and how you consume. Fitness, nutrition, sleep, mindfulness… and now toxins! Who knew there was more to worry about? Until recently, we let the majority of our purchasing behaviors be steered by our family and friend (our immediate environment aka influencers) or straight up marketing. Until recently, we didn’t even know what to question or how…. Our make-up, detergent, air fresheners? Again, it’s overwhelming to know how much you need to know to live as clean as you can. AND the more you dig in and do the research you really see how much you don’t know. Hello outsourcing. Find someone who lives and works in the space and consult them accordingly. That person is Karen for me. She is a long time, great friend that I met while training at FRCF #fitfam. She has all the makings of a great advisor/coach… certifications, degrees, AND she lives it. She talks about training, tips, tricks, sources on where to find the right stuff, questions to ask… and if you don’t need the ENTRIE clean life 411, she can just tell you what to do and what not to do:). I have come to her many times over the years for nutrition, recovery, supplement advice and now beauty products! I had no idea how many toxins were in the things we were consuming every day and how much is absorbed in our skin. AND a lot of companies know this… WTF. So just like the nutrition and fitness space, transparency is not the highest priority. Karen and I chat all things clean beauty, questions to ask, why she loves and supports Beautycounter (google them if you don’t know already) and how they are taking things to the next level fighting for further beauty regulations federally. I highly recommend everyone watch the NetFlix Doc, Stink, it sums up why you should be wondering what we are putting on our bodies, cleaning our houses with, and what products that are not consumer packaged goods are treated with. Its mind blowing. Cheers to clean living, one convo and product at a time!
Highlights: Clean beauty. Holding companies accountable. Questioning a better way. Ramifications of these toxins? Karen’s fitness and wellness journey. Good options. What you can do to help make a difference. Balance and beauty. Out spoken women and pups:)

I believe in the power of communication and conversation. And, I believe in the necessity of uncomfortable conversation. If we can breakdown walls, we can breakthrough with evolution. Besides, looking the other way is so 1990. Like fitness, you tear down the muscle (workout) for it to grow back stronger #itsscience. On this cast I sit down with the founders and creators of the Dear White Women Podcast, Sara and Misasha, and we get our convo cardio in! These women are POWER PLAYERS. They are equal parts: drive, dedication, experience, and education… ½ white, ½ Asian… 100% influencers IRL. They are true bright lights leading us all to positive change.
We are all products of our environments- social, cultural… digital norms. We have exposure to very different things. We have different conscious and unconscious bias. This cast is a beautiful love note encouraging us to pause for a moment and think about why we think a certain way and experience things the way we do? As our world and realities further blend (thankfully so), these are hard conversations that we need to have now for our future generations. It’s not about attack, blame, or guilt. It’s about conscious evolution and acknowledgment, thus allowing space, grace, and empathy for someone that experiences life on the daily different that you do. Collectively, if we can understand one another further, we are one step closer to harmony…. A long way to go, but hope is on the horizon.
Highlights:
Questioning a better way. White women. All women. Everyone. Race and adults. Race and kids. Personal and professional experience, from Harvard to motherhood to the corporate world to podcasting. Our differences and our similarities. Being enough. Breaking outside of what we know and seeing what we don’t know. Teaching moments and learning curves. Mission, understanding and unity. Communication for the greater good.
Sara Blanchard helps communities build connections through conscious conversations, which she does as a podcaster, facilitator, TEDx speaker, writer, and happiness consultant. Having worked at Goldman Sachs and taught positive psychology at Harvard, Sara speaks the language of traditional accomplishment, but for over 10 years, Sara has also pursued the science and techniques of well-being as a life coach, mother, and author of Flex Mom. In addition to emceeing events like the World Happiness Summit and facilitating meaningful panel discussions, Sara now co-hosts award-winning Dear White Women, a social justice podcast that highlights the humanity in the history, race, and happiness of the United States.
Misasha Graham
Misasha Graham has spent her life attempting to bridge gaps, both professionally and personally, and foster understanding among groups of people. Misasha is an accomplished attorney, specializing in intellectual property law and cross-border work with Asia, with over ten years spent at several international law firms honing these skills. She is currently a Special Counsel at a Bay Area law firm, having stepped away from BigLaw to focus more on being present at home. Misasha is also passionate about diversity, equality and inclusion in the practice of law as well as in her communities. Besides being a Megaformer instructor, she is the proud mom of two very active young boys, and the co-host of the award-winning Dear White Women, a social justice podcast that highlights the humanity in the history, race, and happiness of the United States.
Dear White Women, Podcast
Sara & Misasha are the co-hosts of Dear White Women, an award-winning social justice podcast for busy people, who wish they knew more about race, happiness, history & current events in the United States. Their personal drive to leave this world a better place for their children became the impetus for this show, and each episode builds on their shared core beliefs in the humanity of all people, and that we rise by lifting others.
In a nutshell: they are best friends who met decades ago when they were walking out of a racial identity conversation (they’re both half-White and half-Japanese) as undergraduates at Harvard. Misasha is married to a Black man, is a lawyer, amateur historian, and Megaformer fitness coach; Sara is married to a White Canadian man, is a life coach, positive psychology aficionado, and happiness consultant. Together they have four very mixed-race school-aged boys and girls. The podcast brings all these perspectives into consideration, as they dive into uncomfortable, informative conversations that help them - and listeners - know better and do better for themselves and the communities they’re in.
You can listen to their new episodes every Wednesday, on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, and anywhere you subscribe to podcasts.

HOT CUP.... it’s now a thing. Be ready.
This one is a little different! I sit down with two BFF's to dig into some HOT topics and share our general opinions around whatever topic gets pulled out of the cup... and I mean WHATEVER topic. How it works: before the convo we each wrote down "topics to discuss" and then put them all in a cup. From there we each pull out a topic one by one and discuss. It can be anything from "if you could be any Disney prince, who would you be?" to "the last time you wore pearls" to "would you take your husband's last name"? Simple, ish... as you know we tangent like pros (you're welcome) and we mix some heavy commentary (work place equality, tails of growing up, and more) alongside our lighthearted topical discussion…you know the drill. Turmeric AND Tequila:) I am not going to give too much more away here, but you should have a little mini ab workout by the conclusion of the cast. We go in… Hot Cup #2 coming soon.
Highlights:
General shenanigans. Growing up and youthful experiences. Kanye vs. Taylor. Gaston, don’t ever choose him for anything! Pearls and first cars. Integrity and workplace equality. Exposure to adult material. Gross pizza and gratitude for zero social media during our college experience. This is a fun one. Enjoy

To drink or not to drink? In a social world (literally and digitally), alcohol is EVERYWHERE! You probably don’t even notice all things alcohol is involved with until you stop drinking- for the night, the year, or forever. You drink to celebrate, to mourn, to relax… there is even alcohol at church. When we know all the negative effects of alcohol, why do we not only drink it, but drink it alongside all the emotions of life? It’s a depressant! Is it culture or marketing or just plain social norms? As you know, I am a tequila fan and I love a libation or two:) and rarely say no to a good time. In addition, I am a lover of fitness and wellness- generally aiming to feel as good, healthy, and clear as I can. Hence, Turmeric and Tequila (the brand is authentic folks, the juxtaposition is real:). Many mornings after long party nights, waking up with a hangover and filing through receipts in my purse, I am not pumped about the costs around alcohol (energy, money, calories etc… #noregrets). Finding balance in work and play is a juggling act we all face one way or another and continuous self-check in points on all things that can get excessive, including fitness, wellness, and work, are necessary.
On this cast, myself and longtime BFF, fellow entrepreneur, and fitness lover, Jessica Crow, rap about the impact of alcohol and discuss where the line is in balancing alcohol in our lives. We also touch on people who have given up alcohol or meat or anything that is “out of the norm” and how to support their decision to do so. Is the social influence so strong that it’s just easier to go with the flow? It can be, but hopefully this convo sheds a little light for those who are seeking balance with booze and/or have people in their lives that are non-drinkers. Proudly, Jessica and I are masters of fun AND love our health, family, and fitness… so on NEW YEAR’S EVE, we discuss the importance of balance. Cheers!
Highlights:
Influencers under the Influence, The impact of alcohol. Memory lane back to kindergarten! Drinkers and non-drinkers. The social norms of drinking. Balance in all things. Excess. Your surroundings. Your normal. The things we tell ourselves. Partying, it’s fun. Be responsible.
Jessica Crow
Jessica Crow is an entrepreneur, a wife, mom of two young boys, a former foster parent, current yoga teacher, a lifelong student, and creator of the M3™ wellness framework (movement, meditation, mindset). Her mission is to “power transformation by empowering people” through expanded awareness and understanding, whether it’s in the workplace or at the individual level.
Jessica is the founder of Apogy (www.apogy.biz), an online training company for people who want to up-level their professional skill set and immediately add value in the workplace. Jessica started Apogy in 2019 after spending 15 years climbing the corporate ladder. She attributes her career success in part to ongoing training and professional development, which gave her the necessary skills and confidence to perform as she took on new opportunities. Jessica believes that access (time / money) to information should never be a limitation to advancement, and wants to make it easier for more people to acquire the skills they seek by providing high-quality, battle-tested training people can actually afford.
Apogy also offers wellness awareness (M3™) and “conscious leadership” training to help people bridge the gap between human “doing” and human “being. As a former workaholic and “stress addict”, Jessica leverages M3 to maintain health, alleviate stress, and strengthen her connection to self / others.

Spiritually basic!? Naa, not at all, BUT all of the animals on my cards DID have blowouts- I can’t make this up:)
Calling all witches, warlocks, scientists, and believers… this is a good one:). I am a strong believer in accountability, mostly from yourself, and then from the people/communities your respect the most around you. SO, I decided to have my cards read on air by longtime, friend, fellow CrossFitter, entrepreneur, and intuitive, Laura Mahony. Nothing like hearing what’s in store live on air- SCARY! I wanted to see what is swirling in the universe for me- what is next… I am not sure?! Well, actually I know exactly and so do you as all answer are within. We already have the answers? Yup. That is a lot to actually grasp, hence I love readings, coaches, and anyone or thing else that can help you dial into you and your true wants, desires, and goals. I started this podcast quite simply because it was an easy way to seek, discuss, and share truth. Question a better way one gracefully disruptive convo at a time. This really wasn’t a biz angle or a marketing ploy, it is a platform for varsity humans to share their journey and their truths- thus far. The more casts I do, the more I fall in love with it. Completely unedited, heart and passion filled conversation stemming from love, experience, faith, and fun. It’s just so awesome.
Many times, over the years I have put energy into some of the wrong things. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t change one piece of it as I wouldn’t be where I am without it, but it has created a heavy consciousness around the energy spend now. I want to make sure and make sure again I am spending energy (time, money, and effort) on the right things. Of course I think this cast and many of the current projects are on point, but a little affirmation via cards never hurts… sometimes you just need to hear it from someone else:). The signs and answers really ARE all around us and we need to be continuously reminded of that, hence I keep Laura close! Enjoy this peak into my potential future, this cast, and me doing my fave cardio- following the heart #clichesfordays . If you are seeking a little guidance, I highly suggest you reach out to Laura, she is awesome and greatly gifted! Perspective is priceless, anything and all things are possible. Also, blowouts are imports- literally in all my cards. Even spiritually BASIC AYYE.
Highlights:
Full card reading around this podcast- and my general professional leaps. Spiritual awareness, signs, and animals with blowouts. Standing out of the crowd. Taking action and believing what is in front of you. Changing story. More blowouts, ponies, and unicorns. Balance, timing, intuition. Leaning into what you already know, faithfully. Break free from the pack and lead. Impact, our youth, and some hilarious jocks in between heavy cometary… aka Turmeric & Tequila.
Laura Mahony
Laura Mahony is an intuitive that combines different modalities to connect with spirit and to provide guidance and healing. Laura is also a portrait and commercial photographer. Her style is playful, warm, and comfy, and she focuses on movement and relationships in her photos. Her photographs range from ethereal to dynamic and always portray the genuine and personal. Laura works with schools, political campaigns, famous people, not so famous people, businesses, professionals, people in Colorado, people outside of Colorado, and anyone who wants exceptional photographs. Rhonda Kelly, Founder of ResponderStrong and Director of Health, Wellness & Resilience for Global Medical Response... AND OG CF BF, joins me on this cast to dig into the lives of our first and emergency responders.
First responders (definition) typically include paramedics, emergency medical technicians, police officers, firefighters, rescuers, and other trained members of organizations connected with this type of work.
Rhonda is where a wealth of education meets a wealth of experience- she has done, lived, and learned it A LOT, across several service careers, continents, and communities. It's always refreshing to see people start initiatives, foundations, and business from heart space vs. potential capital gain (and I respect the biz person, as you know) and that is exactly what Rhonda did in establishing ResponderStrong. Rhonda shares her journey, career, and her mission to help not only save the lives of the first and emergency responders, but change the way the entire “service and responder industry” hires, maintains, manages, and protects their own. Mental health is a long overdue conversation that is thankfully, becoming more relevant and less stigmatized. Rhonda has seen this need for a focus on mental health for decades, particularly amongst our men and women of service, and that need is finally being recognized and things are being done about it- because of her and many change agents aka community influencers like her. The occupational stress put on our first and emergency responders does not just impact them, but their families and communities as well. We cover a host of mental health and wellness topics and talk about what is going on right now to make it better and grow the conversation and awareness. There is great information for anyone in service… or anyone that has a brain:). While this convo is specific to responders- it’s great fuel for thought for everyone. It’s ok to not be ok. We all need more selfcare AND maintaining that self-awareness will prevent us all from slipping down an unnecessary, destructive path. People are out there, resources are out there, it matters, you matter, please reach out!
Highlights:
Mental health. The lives of first and emergency responders. Support vs. solution. Wanting to help people, but not having the agency to do so. Disputing the disruptive cycle. Self-care. Childhood trauma to adulthood drama. Mind flexibility. Universe speaking, Rhonda following! Maslow’s Hierarchy. Misunderstood human behavior. Occupational stress. Impact. Take care of yourself, take care of the world. The resources out there to help!
Rhonda Kelly:
@remykelly
Founder ResponderStrong and Director of Health, Wellness & Resilience for Global Medical Response
Rhonda has led a varied life as an oceanographer, firefighter/paramedic, and psych ER nurse among other pursuits. Several years ago, she guided her interest in emergency responder mental health into the creation of ResponderStrong, an initiative aimed at improving mental health supports for responders and their families. Most recently, she has returned to her broader passion of overall wellness and is developing a program encompassing nutrition, sleep, movement and mindset to help emergency medical personnel lead their best lives. Rhonda is an ardent believer in the power and synergy of collaboration to solve big issues.
ResponderStrong:
The mental, emotional and physical impacts of emergency response work can compromise our ability to be there for our brothers and sisters in uniform, to be engaged with our families, and to protect our communities. Founded at the National Mental Health Innovation Center of the University of Colorado Anschutz, ResponderStrong is a collaboration between emergency responders and their advocates. Our mission is to improve mental health supports for emergency responders and their families through joint focuses on intervention and prevention. Our site serves as a resource map for responder-informed crisis and clinical services as well as easily accessible educational content and tools for responders, their families, their leaders and the clinicians who work with them. ResponderStrong has also created custom educational content regarding relationships, stress management, and resiliency in response to community needs assessments.
The first cast of 2020 and we are coming in HOT! SO appreciate this cast as Tim shares a detailed journey thus far from being a high school water polo stud, scouts honor (he was a Boy Scout too:), to him chasing the drive to serve which eventually lands him at the Naval Academy. The Naval Academy is not only one of the toughest schools to get into, it's one of the toughest to stay at... and he pushed his luck, just enough to learn some lifelong lessons that have helped him in his most successful pursuits today. If you have ever wondered what it takes for a young person to make such a commitment, this is a good cast to listen to. It might not provide all the direct answers, but it will provide insight to a young ambitious mind seeking something beyond themselves. Perhaps a great reminder for us all to get back in touch with our young selves, our thoughts, dreams, hopes, and early life lessons. Remember when you thought you could do anything? Back to that.
It is as if every challenge presented in your life was a planned step for the next larger play, one that you don't even know yet- but subconsciously seek. Who knew? Well, anyone that has failed and thought that it didn't work out, only to give it some time, look back and see that it did. Every fail leads to success if you can keep you vision clear and helmet on, we are here for long game folks. Larger order in motion, keep the faith. AKA, negatives can be positives if you so choose, it's not what happens, it's how we react.
Highlights:
Life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react. Voting for different parties, but having the same core values. PATRIOTISM. Your smart, authentic, 18-year-old self. Stereotypes. Influencers and early mentors. NASA as a neighbor and Beyoncé as a home town hero. Continuous life lessons of not being enough, only to make the choice to be more. Choosing your own destiny and rising to the challenge. 9/11. The call to serve. The balance or work and play.
Tim Tacl (his words:):
If you want some pre-academy stuff I can talk about water polo & swimming varsity all 4 years of High School. Beach Lifeguard as a High School job (6+ rescues NBD) ;) the attraction to serving our nation and 9/11 being a catalyst....
Tim Tacl
After graduating from the United States Naval Academy, I served as an Officer in the Navy for just over six years. When it came time to leave the service I sought out an industry, and more importantly a company, that aligned well with the traits and values I gained during that time. I joined The Spire Team at AmeriFirst Financial Inc. because it is truly a family environment centered on providing our clients with the best service in the industry. I’m proud to be a part of such a great team and in a career that I can still continue to be a resource to the community around me.

2020, we HERE! Before we jump into the new year, let's take a somewhat quick look back... ok, it's a long one, but worth it. Myself and my 3 friends; Ashley, Shelly, and Zach, breakdown a month by month review of 2019. The best way to move forward is to glance back and take note on what happened and how. From there we evolve… AND laugh a bit too, hopefully. We highlight everything from major world/US events to pop culture moments to side tangents on life in general, #onbrand. I'll keep this intro brief so you can get right to the cast, pour some champagne and toast to 2019 and help us welcome in 2020!
Highlights: SO MANY THINGS. Month by month commentary on what happened in 2019. Lots of laughs. WTF Politics, Hollywood, and us, in general:). Different views, similar core values. How do we make 2020 even better? Let’s look back.
Special THANK YOU to everyone who supported this cast in its first year- it's been a wild one. We are over 1k downloads and growing, thanks to you all! I sincerely appreciate all the feedback, reposts, and general support. This cast is safe space for sharing thoughts, views, beliefs, and how we are all questioning a better way. I can't wait to see what is next, cheers to evolution and revolution. Gratitude and graceful disruption all around. XO!!

CORE VALUES... your subconscious core beliefs, your very own unique filter for your world and experience. Why you think the way you do, why certain things matter to you and why certain things don't. Listen in to this cast to unpack that even more as it's the base point to finding our true happiness. Happiness, also subjective:).
I spoke about my core values on "The Why" cast, aka the last cast, so this is great timing to bring out the OG of Core Values, at least in my world, The Jenn Kaye. Jenn is a communication master, amongst so many other things (full bio below), and here she shares her journey of a breakdown at 15 and break through not long after (remarkable so young!). A pivotal point for her long-term life game and incredibly important career (positive human impact worldwide). Her vulnerability in this conversation reaches all ages, genders, and races, as we all face deep challenges in life and recognize (at some point) that the only thing we DO have is CHOICE.
Choice to question a better way, to heal, to dream, to do. When filling the void destructively no longer works, when you realize the external behavior is from the internal self-dialogue. When you understand everyone wants to belong and feel accepted AND the importance of community. You choose a better way, realizing that the things you thought made you different, actually make you very human, like everyone else. Your purpose is to be happy AND each of us have a different path in that pursuit. The key piece in the journey's map is communication: with other humans, with digital media, with animals, AND most importantly with ourselves.
This is a bit of our journey in further understanding ourselves.
Highlights: Core Values. External validation and internal conversation. Acceptance and belonging. Happiness and what that means? Purpose. How scary and hard it is to look at yourself and unpack beliefs and experiences. Making a change. Getting to know yourself.

Well, we are 17 casts in, so now seems like a good time to dive into THE WHY!?! :) Why am I doing a podcast?... I keep this one pretty quick. Just me sharing my main goal, “To inspire positive, radical social evolution”, with you. How do I do that? Create a platform (this cast) for all varsity humans to share their journey, speak their truth, and enlighten the rest of the world with how they questioned a better way - ideally inspiring us to do the same... if we so choose.
Growing up the way I did (my background), surrounded by the people I was surrounded by (my humans- family, friends, teammates), and my eclectic personal and professional experience (competing in sports and biz) has brought me to this point. Not all things in life are super transparent, personal or business, we are often led by the sale vs the truth. This cast is about highlighting all the humans and businesses that are doing things the right way, lead with their heart AND their head. Questioning a better way, shaking up status quo and in turn, providing space for positive, radical, social evolution. Great humans, doing great things… I am coming for you and aiming to get as many of you as possible to share your story. GRACEFUL DISRUPTION. Stay tuned. Cheers. XO
Highlights: KO Background, the journey thus far, the goal, the why, and the why not!? The how, we are not sure yet, but we believe in the larger order- so WE OUT HERE. Graceful Disruption.

PRO TIP:
Dream, Believe, Achieve.
Building an empire… to give it all away?! Precisely, with a job outside of your gender role please. We don’t want if it’s too easy #tupac :). The larger order circled one of my fave varsity (literally), Grandview Highschool laxers that I coached about 10 years ago (I know- soul botox!!), back into my world on this one, Maddy Fauth. Maddy is an entrepreneur/ business owner and she brought her good friend and fellow entrepreneur/business owner, Linzy Cassell, with her. We’ll dive into each of their businesses and their journeys into the trades/ service world, but first let’s be clear on what the trades (and services) jobs are:
Trades/Services Jobs include (but are not limited to):
- Roofing, coating
- Heating, cooling, home services
- Elevator Installer/Repairer
- Geological and Petroleum Technician
- Web Developer
- Diagnostic Medical Sonographer
- Electrician
You know, what you see the boys do… for the most part. Until now. Maddy and Linzy are two incredible women breaking barriers, not only as entrepreneurs/business owners in general, but in a male dominated space. So that packs a whole other line of experiences with it- not to worry both of these women carry a load of confidence in their work abilities and businesses AND more importantly, in themselves. We chat about why college wasn’t the right choice for them and how they took time early on to learn about what they really want (or listened when they felt out of alignment/universe laid the smack down)… taking that break year after high school just might be a good idea after all, and might save you a few $100k. Outside of money, which empires are in the making, so that’ not the prob, we talk about the value of time and energy… and giving back. We all want to be productive human beings, but what is real impact? Why is it important? Why giving is absolutely receiving in the best, most priceless way. Giving funds, furnaces, and a little something of girls to shoot for as they pick their “dream career”. My journey into questioning a better way was later in the game than these two, but it’s funny how the world works… Maddy’s Mom was actually one of the first people to bring up “The Law of Attraction” (when the movie came out back in the day:), vibration, and intentional thoughts. Pretty sure she actually gave me all the cd’s to listen to haha, ahh the 2000’s…/I likely still have them. So It is no surprise to me her kiddo is right in line with that thought process and out there on trades front lines with her Dad being a true influencer IRL. AND she is pulling people into her post HS lax, but still varsity world, like Linzy! No doubt all of their parents are proud, as they should be.
This is a great cast if you are a kid about to graduate high school, mid college and not sure if it’s for you, college grad and need cash/inspiration, a parent with a kiddo, or anyone questioning a better way in general. Lean in.
Highlights: women in trades/services. BNI, Business Networking International. Gender roles, and not having college debt. Following you heart or having the awareness of what your parents did (cuz you’ll likely have similar interest, surprise). Life skills through sports. Alignment and being out of alignment, vibration. Mom and dad. Pro women’s sports. Self-awareness. Reciprocity, give back, and paying it forward. The strong women before us. Entrepreneurs. Being the brand aka yourself.
My genuine endorsement is given here, if you need service that their businesses provide- call them. They are the real, honest deal.
Maddy is co-owner of Great Guys heating and cooling. From health care to cannabis to HVAC, making an impact is the goal. Daughter of two entrepreneurs, building an empire to call hers was destined to happen. Using skills gained from her lacrosse and semi-professional football experience she has built a team that is breaking barriers in the HVAC industry and for women in trades. Great Guys is family owned and operated and prides itself on giving back to the community and those in need.
Linzy Cassell
Founder and Chief Operations Officer,
Ellise, PHD… in academics, humor, experience, and life. And we cover it all on this one. It was day 3 of Be Golden Conference and we just so happen to find the perfect recipe for a 2.5 hour laugh packed and passion filled podcast (write this down, Grandma said so): knowledge + education + persistence + patients + libations + the past + the future + tangents = pure gold and some noteworthy life lessons/skills. We cover the art of the “intentional doer” and the even bigger art of the larger order and the unintentional plays that have built the path. Knowing that, is it all worth the school loans? We think so. Perhaps we are packaged accordingly to fulfill our journey’s purpose. Speaking of, we dive into society’s unacceptance of fat people. Where does this come from? Our families, our friends, today- social media? If you look a certain way, what does that say about who you are? If anything at all? It doesn’t. Ellise graciously shares her road thus far and what her Fatness Fiction brand: podcast, magazine, and digital presence, were initially inspired by. If being fat is associated with being unhealthy, does looking “fit” mean that you are healthy? Hailing from the fitness space on the business and athletic side, I can assure one thing- that is not so. Physically or mentally. You need to dig into what healthy even means and what it means for you. The fitness space is a magical one, but every person in the mix of it can tell you not to judge a book by its cover. We would be fools to believe that rule doesn’t work on both sides of the coin. All humans can feel hyper invisible, one more thing that can bond us all, even if we are packaged differently. Ellise’s responsibility around her message and art set the bar for influencers everywhere. Know what you are saying, why, and carry the consciousness close that the gift of your impact just might positively inspire another’s reality and their day to day. Get to know yourself and never, ever be the world’s side chick.
---
Highlights: Fatness Fiction, stereotypes, OPPORTUNITY IS EVERYWHERE. Generational poverty, impact of our immediate surroundings- human and marketing. The roles of parents and kids. The similarities and difference in generations. Finding purpose. Affirmations and self-belief. More tangents. Brain health. Stigmas. Facts and fiction in general around beliefs. DRAMASTICALLY. Responsibility… some weed and tequila. Balance friends.

MEANINGFUL CONVO ALERT:) Yes, EVERY cast is so very meaningful AND this one in particular is a necessary PSA for everyone. The world is evolving and this convo is proof (we have some work to do tho). KO sits down with the wonderful Raven Roberts of Own Your I Am, to discuss the state of the world today- colorism, fashion, marketing, and how the society and ideology around all of those things coexists and collide. We go in on this one! Raven might be small in stature, but her presence and voice are to be heard, seen, and felt. Her personal and professional missions work around creating space and grace for everyone that might not be in “the know” and it’s a beautiful thing (especially when it comes to her styling abilities!). The patients are real! We can all take notes on several levels here.
Raven and KO also discuss bringing the unconscious conscious, the importance of representation, the impact of money and politics and business. It is an unlevel playing field, but they see light at the end of the tunnel and believe in the power of conversation. Raven’s sound advice around “maybe not changing a person’s mind right away, but planting a seed for the future or the long game” is a solid idea we can all carry in our back pocket with every conversation we have with everyone. Conversation and communication just might work:)
---
Highlights: Colorism, white privilege, representation, and empowerment. HAIR. Medical camp? Nurture vs. Nature. Racism, we are not born that way. Authenticity. Gucci in the hot seat and a round of applause for Starbucks. Diversity training. Responsibility in business and as an influencer. Our kids kids. Organic actions vs. trends. The ripple effects. Doing what you can to make the world a more aware, loving, and accepting place.
---
Raven Roberts: Celebrity Fashion Stylist and advocate, Raven Roberts, who about seven years ago began styling in Los Angeles, California. Today Raven is based in New York City and has quickly become one to watch in the fashion industry. Raven recently founded Own Your I Am.
She aims to help women of color erase the lines of colorism and the social injustice that comes from it. By empowering women to own who they say they are and not what the world says about them!

This is the first of the Be Golden Podcast Series... that's right, had the pleasure of doing 5 casts in 3 days with some incredible speakers, attendees, and hosts of the 2019 Be Golden Conference in Bloomington, Indiana.
---
On this first one we check back in with Sara McInerney- our first, 2nd time guest:)! The timing could not be more perfect. On our first cast with Sara and The Chloe Barnes, we discussed life and what was on the agenda for both of them in the coming year. We quickly learn on this cast, sometimes our plans don't align with the universe’s plans, and that's ok. The best lessons are usually leaned the hardest way, and then stick the most. Sara and KO cover breakdowns and breakthroughs...an easy flowing convo on some tough pills to swallow. Ideally you can pull from our leanings on this one and streamline some process in your own world. And if not, just know the lessons are worth the process- take it from us:) The importance of slowing down, actually feeling, and getting back in touch with your athletic self is a process that never ends, needs to be honored, and if you don't do it, the universe will... for you own good! Getting EMOSH, the new fave cardio. Here we go!
---
Highlights: Busy=Numb, transition, self-care, self-check-in, getting knocked off the rails= clarity, challenge to change, when emotions become physical, more is not more, updating the narrative, evolution, sharing the voice, privilege= responsibility, chasing fire and impact. Process and practice and not perfection. Progress and reflection. Take care of you and you can take care of everyone else more.
---
Sara McInerney:
Sara is honored to be T&T first returning guest. The universe brought KO and Sara together for this conversation where this otherwise confident young woman doesn’t feel so grounded in certainty at the moment. Sara is listening to her gut and trying to follow her intuition into this next chapter she feels coming. Today she took a big step in writing that new chapter by launching her own podcast called Facing Fear. Sara attempts to follow her own advice and face this next chapter with courage.
---
Be Golden Conference. From equality to politics to environment, It's overwhelming to see and know all the work that needs to be done to make the world a better place AND these two have found a way to make a large scale difference. Listen in how they have done this and are continuing to blaze trail in pursuit of continuous positive impact for the world and all of its people at large.

LOVE THIS CAST! KO sits down with Lara McGlashan, Brand Director and Editor-in-Chief of Oxygen Magazine, to rap about print media now, its future, and the all-around impact of showcasing fitness influencers/athletes on culture and society today . They get into all the burning questions around Lara's journey in the print (and fitness ) world, social media, the power of marketing, fitness influencers and the impact on consumers (young women in particular), and so much more. We discuss knowing your value and being direct... print world, write this down, do the right thing, share the truth. It’s good for the world and the bottom line, we promise:) AND because Lara already does.
