Episode #109: There is no single right way to be an effective alley, but there is a wrong way. Anti-racism activism must mean more than sharing anti-racism social media posts and hashtags. A lot of times these actions make certain white people feel like they’ve “checked a box” and done enough. During this episode, we dive into what it truly takes to become less performative and more effective allies in the fight for social justice. We will also introduce our newest member Ms. Annie Caplan and discuss the work she has done and is currently doing in the fight for social change.

Episode #101 - With Covid 19 taking over the media, it would appear as if it's the only illness that exists these days. The corona virus pandemic has hindered progress in fighting HIV worldwide, with public health resources redirected toward COVID-19 and millions of people struggling to access care. Testing for HIV and Aids has dropped nearly 90% in most clinics over the past four months. Although we no longer hear about HIV/AIDS, it is still very prevalent, especially in the black community.

During this episode, The 1 talks with Mrs. Michele Boyd, the founder and CEO of Bring On Your Dreams - An organization that provides emergency assistance and supportive services for women living with HIV/AIDS, and she shares with us just how HIV/AIDS epidemic is still thriving in black communities, especially amongst our teens.

Mrs. Boyd, a person, currently living with HIV, shares her journey through rape, homelessness, and her daily struggles living with the virus. From being abused by her husband at the age of 19 to being raped by her husband's friend after being offered a ride home, which lead her to be infected with the virus to being told that she only had months to live as her immune system was operating at 2%.

Her story will have you at the edge of your seats.
We also take an in-depth look at how the virus is affecting teens as Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Brown (Vice-Chair of Bring On Your Dreams) share their accounts on how this disease has taken the lives of our youth. Some as young as fifteen. Their stories bring a new awareness to a disease that has been forgotten but is nowhere near gone.
