Guerilla Aspies Podcast Autism Aspergers Syndrome Neurodiversity Neurodivergent ASD

Parents meet autistics. Neurodiversity activist with children. Autistic people without children. Autistics the world over united. Autism. Aspergers Syndrome. Neurodiversity. Neurodivergence. Comedy, interviews, fun.

A podcast from Paul Wady, arch Neurodiversity Movement activist and autistic man. Married to another autistic and working training professionals about autism, Paul has his own long running show that converts audiences to being autistic (Guerilla Aspies) as well as a book which is now six years old. (Guerilla Aspies - a neurotypical society infiltration manual).

The podcasts are hopefully a means by which the many communities in the world of autism can come together and listen to each other.

Expect an extraordinary collection of the key players on the underground scene, and the ever revealing answers to the question...just who is Paul Wady and what is he doing?

One thing we can be certain of. He is not without his biases.... ;)

Paul Wady Society & Culture 1 évad 15 rész Autism Aspergers Guerilla Aspies book and show Podcast by Paul Wady ASD
The First Guerilla Aspies Podcast, February 2020. Vaxxed 2 London protest. Paul Wady.
54 perc 2020. évad 1. rész

The first Guerilla Aspies book and show podcast. By Paul Wady. FEEL FREE TO JUMP AROUND ANY PART YOU DESIRE. Here is a list of subjects and their location along the timeline.

1:54 Demonstration recording of the 12 of us outside the Tabernacle venue.

21:35 Introduction to Emma Dalmayne and AIM.

21:59 Explanation of my signs.

22:42 Explanation of my Parent Snuff Porn sign.

24:24 I am open to persuasion but so far, nothing...

24:43 Background of Vaxxed films, 1 and 2.

26:30 Tommey speaks! Excerpts from an interview film Polly Tommey recorded with two mothers inside the venue as we protested.

27:29 Attack on Emma Dalmayne and Fional O'Leary by Polly Tommey. 'Pharma Trolls'.

28:10 Ambiguity around just how long Tommey has been active was a problem here. I assumed 1998 but the magazine may have been 1999.

28:46 Polly Tommey - I CANNOT RECOMMEND ONE GOOD (medical) DOCTOR IN THE UK.

29:32 When did Tommey start following Wakefield? I am not sure here. Was the 8000 word signature real?

31:04 Polly Tommey - SWINE FLU VACCINE DOCTORS SHOULD BE IN JAIL.

31:35 Never another vaccination again for the rest of my life...

31:56 A reference to one Suzanne Humphreys, a discredited and controversial figure who backs up Tommey. They were both banned from entering Australia something like two years ago.

32:00 Polly Tommey - NOT ONE TEAR SHED. An attempt to initiate a Breaking Technique with the audiences?

32:18 Breaking Techniques and Love Bombing.

33:15 A discussion about Polly Tommey.

34:00 Excerpt of a YouTube film soundtrack from the summer of 2016 in which Polly Tommey says she would not judge parents who murder their autistic children in cold blood.

34:43 The Autism File magazine is dedicated to only portraying the umbrella term autism as meaning brain damage alone. Yet it has cited different causes that manifest identically. Could it work like that medically?

36:13 The conclusion of the Polly Tommey section. Have you ever met an Anti Vaxxer who concedes?

37:02 Just like in Louis Theroux MY SCIENTOLOGY MOVIE 2015, two women filmed us working as an organised and apparently trained film crew unit. They lied to us they were not anything to do with the Vaxxed people, but later we discovered one of them had a lanyard around her neck she was hiding. Also she actually said yet before running scared through the venue doorway. We have no idea what they will do with the film made, nor gave permission for the Vaxxed people to film us. Was this intimidation?

38:04 A description of the filming the Scientologists did in the Louis Theroux film.

39:06 Feedback on HOXTONPAUL@HOTMAIL.CO.UK please.

39:23 A message for the Vaxxed film people - why are you going around impersonating the Scientologists?

39(ish) Supposing its all true....why it is not. I explain what I think would have happened by now if there had ever been any basis in reality for the film.

41:18 QUACK CORNER. A regular feature on treatments, interventions, cures and generally turning us NEUROTYPICAL.

44:07 An introduction to Paul Wady's shows, which neglects to mention what else I get up to like the Guerilla Aspies book, t shirts, badges and my worst seller - fridge magnets. More personal details to come.

45:43 PARENTS VERSES AUTISTIC ADVOCATES. An attempt to settle things via perspective. Different communities on the metaphorical spectrum. Different opinions. Same Neurodiversity Movement... (HINT = It's a metaphor not a real thing).

53:53 The End. I thank you. :)

Guerilla Aspies Autism Aspergers Syndrome Neurodiversity Episode Thirteen - US Actor, writer, singer and performer George Steeves.
52 perc 1. évad 13. rész

George Steeves is a young gay autistic actor, singer, dancer and all round performer whom I met through his multi award winning one man show Magic 8 Ball, my life with Aspergers, when he performed it at the Edinburgh International Festival in 2018.

Brave George has already notched up a CV of film and television work in the US, including NCIS Los Angeles. (My wife and I followed the original NCIS for years).

It was great to catch up with George from his home in Los Angeles. Lockdown style 2020.

Guerilla Aspies Podcast 12 - Jeff Fullington, PrimalHex, Seattle USA.
44 perc 1. évad 12. rész

August 2020 I found myself in a hot debate whilst using the @StealthAspies Twitter account with some advocates in the USA who could never tolerate the idea that disability is relative to autistic people. For them the term autism was absolutely synonymous with disability and disorder.

I made the acquantanceship of Jeff Fullington, a Seattle based autism advocate and asked him to podcast with me. Jeff is an interesting and passionate man who wants to create communities, both in person and virtually and seeks to bring people together and promote a positive NeuroDivergent identity the world over.

Jeff is from the Cajun culture and community and his current project is a Discord - Server platform called The Red Door. He is also working on a website, blog and podcasting platform that other autistic people will be able to use to share their work.

The discord link is https://discord.gg/AmTubn9 and the info site for it is  https://sites.google.com/view/the-red-door

WARNING: We end up spending a lot of time talking about our shared love of late 70's/early 80's music. As a first generation Liverpool Punk Rocker, I consider this a right and proper use of my podcast time. Thereafter at the end Jeff details his work so it's worth getting to the very end to hear that.

Thank you Jeff. :)

Guerilla Aspies Podcast 11 - Autistic musician, translator, globetrotter and activist Chen Gershuni from Israel.
38 perc 1. évad 11. rész

A very good friend of mine speaking all the way from Tel Aviv Israel, Chen 'Globetrotter' Gershuni has had a huge, invisible influence on the planets autistic advocacy through his tireless and selfless translation work as much as becoming a major hub of positive self advocacy. Chen is renown the world over online and is a regular on the UK's Autscape event. He is also a musician and player of the stick. Look 'em up.

He's a brilliant man and a lot quieter and smarter than me. Which of course is saying a great deal, etcetera. I caught him in his living room.

Guerilla Aspies Autism Aspergers Syndrome Podcast Episode 10 Autistic Trans Parent and Artist, Alexandra Forshaw
34 perc 1. évad 10. rész

For the tenth podcast I would like to introduce to you all over the planet Earth, the Autistic Trans Parent and Artist Alexandra Forshaw.

We discuss trying to cope with the best university in Britain, finding out just how much don't fit and how much the NeuroDivergent community has given Alexandria a community and a positive identity. Hell, a real one more like.

Do we all spend our lives compromising and following social protocols that demand we become to varying degrees, someone and something we are not? Then to go on to live as such for the rest of our lives. Sometimes blissfully unaware of how much we compromise ourselves. I think so. But not everyone is lucky enough to uncover and come to live in alignment with their own reality in all its forms. (This is a rather Buddhist way of putting it).

Its now August 2020 and I an not at the Edinburgh Festival doing my long running show, which is a great shame. However a link to the Stealth Aspies performance at the Marlborough Theatre is available to be seen as part of the online Edinburgh Free Fringe. Just search for it on there. :)

Guerilla Aspies podcast 9 Autism Pride Organisers - Billie Jo Gibson, Autism Pride Liverpool.
51 perc 1. évad 9. rész

It was my honour to interview Billie Jo Gibson, who stepped up and took on the responsibility for the Liverpool Autism Pride event a few years ago. She is also the webmanager for Neurodivergent Labour.

We all come from somewhere. A place that makes us. I come from the city of Liverpool. As we 'Scousers' say, a boss interview with Billie la.

Life can be a huge journey. Billie takes us on her's from a young diagnosis to her creative life and unflinching political stanch. One day people will take for granted the effort and sacrifices that activists like Billie Jo have had to go through. For now, please enjoy this little bit of history. I sometimes think the people who started it all and took on the world in their own small way, were never rewarded by the future's view of just how significant their actions were. Billie, take courage and pride that when I was a child in the 1970's no one knew anything about being autistic like they do now. But in the future your work will go on and mean so much to people like us. Please enjoy.

Guerilla Aspies podcast 7 - Autism Pride Organisers - Joseph Redford of Autism Pride Hyde Park London & Tumbridge Wells.
33 perc 1. évad 7. rész

This podcast is an interview with the organiser of the annual Hyde Park London, Autism Pride event.

Joseph Redford is an international traveller, workin' man and a Tumbridge Wells resident. Where he also does the Autism Pride event there.

People come together in the parks once a year to be with other autistic people, listen to speeches and performances, and link up online with others.

Joseph has been involved in the autism self advocate scene for many years now and we know each other well. So you get a little hint of the shenanigans (argy bargy or carry on) that have gone on in the past.

Several more brave folks, who insist on taking responsibility to bring us all together, following on.

Guerilla Aspies podcast 6 - Dr Ria Lina, Scientist, comedian and Mother.
29 perc 1. évad 6. rész

Mother of three, Scientist, award winning comedian, actor and producer. Dr Ria Lina is one unique autistic person. Funny too.

Of German and Phillipino ancestry, growing up in the UK, the USA and the Netherlands.

Ria has a BSc in Experimental Pathology, an MSc in Forensic Science, and a PhD in Viral Bioinformatics. She worked as an IT Forensic Investigator for the Serious Fraud Office too, so don't try anything funny online with her.

Ria is a winner of the EMMA (Ethnic Multicultural Media Academy) award, She is known for her television appearances in The World Stands UpMega Mela Malai Comedy and Sweet n Sour on BBC3. She has been an Edinburgh Festival regular which is how come we could discuss the Free Fringe and the people we mention. Tricity is a friend of ours and a brilliant performer in her own right, who kind of brought us together (It was her Bluestockings Cabaret we were both doing things upon. Oooer..)

SUBSCRIBE TO RIA'S PODCAST - RIA LINA'S BEHIND ON ITUNES AND EVERYWHERE.

I see Ria as yet another example of how autistic people, once diagnosed and immersed into the greater Autistic media and metaphorical Neurodiversity Movement, become clearly defined in their opinions and politics about everything NeuroDivergent. It seems to be an organic thing.

Guerilla Aspies Podcast 3 - Dr. Catriona Anne Stewart OBE.
56 perc 1. évad 3. rész

Any feedback or suggestions? HoxtonPaul@Outlook.com or GuerillaAspies@gmail.com

Catriona founded SWAN: Scottish Women’s Autism Network, in 2012, after completing her PhD research, which focussed on experiences of anxiety for Asperger girls. SWAN has grown to run online peer-support forums, regular ‘meet-up’ groups across Scotland, includ-ing for ‘Young Swans’ aged 15-17 and Learning Event conferences. SWAN offers training and professional support across sectors.

Scottish Autism commissioned Catriona to develop their Right Click online resource for autistic women and girls, funded by Scottish Government in 2015. Developing the re-source involved primary research into the lived experiences of autistic women, girls and their families and many interviews with professional experts in the field such as Dr Judith Gould, Tony Attwood, Richard Mills, Sarah Hendrickx, Carly Jones MBE and many other autistic women and girls. Scottish Government funded Catriona’s initiative - to evidence the impact of peer mentoring - through a SWAN/Scottish Autism partnership delivered 2018-2019. Modelled as a co-production and pilot study, the Under Our Wing peer-mentor-ing project was designed and led by autistic women, with administrative support provided by Scottish Autism.

Catriona was an ‘expert’ and advisor to the highly regarded 3 year UK-wide National Aut-ism Project. She was advisor to the 2 year-long Independent Review of the Mental Health Act, Scotland, recently completed in Dec 2019. On behalf of SWAN she is currently acting as Regional Delivery Partner to the Scottish Government ‘Improving Understanding of Aut-ism’ campaign.

She has delivered training, presentations, conference papers and workshops over many years and to a wide range of contexts, professional organisations, charities, parents groups and Local Authority staff.

With a tendency to sign up for academic or training courses whenever a small gap ap-pears in her calendar, Catriona has, over the years, collected a range of degrees and oth-er qualifications, including: BA (Hons) Fine Art, PGCert Community Work, PGDip Western Herbal Medicine, PG Dip Gender Studies, MSc In Diagnostic Issues in Autism, PhD. Like many autistic people, she’s also had an eclectic mix of jobs, from 2 years as full-time paid student union officer and politician, to working for 9 years within film and TV art depart-ments, to being a health clinician, to teaching, university lecturing and student mentoring.

Catriona contributed to the collection of essays, “Spectrum Women” published by JKP in 2018 which was listed by the Independent as their 2019 #1 Best Buy book on autism.

Catriona was included in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list, 2020, as an OBE.

THE SECOND GUERILLA ASPIES PODCAST

Contents.

0:52 Introduction to Dinah by PW, and a quick purr by Pushkin the Wondercat.

2:50  I explain that I will be splicing the start of our interview at the very end, and commencing the podcast with a more ‘meaty’ bit from when the pace had picked up.

6:20 Durham Conferences and Paul Shattock.  How his association with Andrew Wakefield ruined everything.

6:32 Witnessing Andrew Wakefield’s first public talk about measles in 1998.  This isn’t Science!

7:56  PW discuss Wakefield as a waste of time but a fascination for me, and Dinah agrees.

8:38  Negativity around positivity around being autistic.

8:20  Not being very visible and being fairly equitable are skills I developed to survive.

9:50  I never talked about left/right male brain.

12:12  Uta Frith/Franke Happe and following the leaders in science.  No!

13:00  Michelle Dawson and the research into emotion in autistics.  The use of fake computer - generated images.  Nothing to do with genuinely connecting with people’s emotions.

14:00  Academic representations of autism are still ‘the wild west’.

14:50  The Universities will pay you to do these tests.  What it is like doing them.

15:30 Learning and training the mind.  If I’m no good at something I’d rather not do it at all.  Why should autistics have to do things against our natures?

16:15 Habituation is a thing.  Conquering the supermarket meltdowns…

17:00  We are good at training our minds.

17:35 The children were being monitored but the information was going straight to the teacher and not the children.  When a classroom did not use the bio feedback they should have.

33:14  Changing autistic behaviours equals changing how people’s brains are…

34:50  When autistics do not qualify to be disordered.  When you cannot make absolute statements about disability or ability, whilst needing to in order to get support and understanding.

35:20  When you have to portray yourself as inadequate in order to have any chance of getting the support you need from the sources that might be available.
