The Magic Word Podcast
Scott Wells is a full time professional magician who has traveled around the world where he has met, worked with and become friends with some pretty cool people. Enjoy listening to these podcasts with magicians talking about their magic, magic conventions and what's going on in the magic scene today.

Award winning actor, producer, writer and magician, Andy Nyman, is indeed a magician with many faces. As an actor, he has played many roles that require physical changes in his appearance from Tevye the Dairyman in “Fiddler on the Roof” to Winston Churchill on “Peaky Blinders” among many others. But he has also collaborated with Derren Brown on many of his mentalism shows that have appeared from England’s West End to New York’s Broadway. As a Member of the Inner Magic Circle, with Gold Star, he is a performing member who keeps up his magic skills as well as his acting chops.

In this week’s episode, Andy talks about some of his various acting roles and his work with his friend, Derren Brown. But the meat of this conversation is hearing and learning from Andy’s commitment to being true to himself and his personal goals. He discusses the “imposter syndrome” and how important it is to “trust the process” and the the little phrase of, “perfect is the enemy of good” and how we should ponder these nuggets of wisdom.

One of the “underground” guys who may be so far underground, that many of you may not know this gentleman nor the extent of his expertise. Mild mannered Microsoft business executive by day, Scott Robinson is a powerhouse of a prestidigitator and the organizer of the annual TRICS convention (an intimate conclave of conjurors) in Charlotte, North Carolina. He also is the dictator or “Scott-tator” of his “Sleight Club” where like minded creative magicians in his area congregate to share what they are working on and get advice on how to develop the trick and routine.

As we kick off the 601st episode of The Magic Word Podcast, we welcome not one, but three guests this week, all of whom toured and worked closely with the late magician and dealer, Denny Haney. Scott Alexander authored a new biography of Denny called, “Collected Wisdom” which not only talks about his life but also describes in detail some of the tricks that made his reputation. Also joining us the week is Malcolm “Puck” Puckering and Alain Nu both of whom have made their own unique mark in our magic community after learning so much from their mentor, Denny.

Atlanta-based magician, Ken Scott Wisenbaker, dropped his legal last name to a shortened stage name of “Ken Scott.” Find out this week why he changed it and who recommended it. Ken is a multiple year winning Magician of the Year for the Atlanta club. He will be the incoming International President of the I.B.M. at this year’s annual convention slated for July 7-10 in Pittsburgh, PA. He is also the organizer of the annual Atlanta Harvest of Magic convention. Luna Shimada is the second generation of the Shimada family dynasty but she has made her own way into the world of entertainment. During a recent trip from Houston, Texas, to Michigan, I had the opportunity to sit down for an in-depth conversation with one of magic’s creative thinkers, Sean Bogunia. Although he might be best known to you as the creator of the Ultimate Dancing Hank (in a Bottle), he prefers for that not to be his seminal legacy. He has many other creations to his credit that are in the working repertoires of professional magicians and he has even more that he is working on to bring to the magic community. He is a performer and creator who has consulted with many top magicians.

A usually quiet and reserved person, Sean opened his heart and soul in this podcast unlike he had ever done before. In fact, he states that this is only the second interview that he has ever given. This episode contains perhaps more stories than any other that we have broadcast. I am certain that you will get a lot out of this week’s “longer than usual” episode.

From England, Romany talks about the arc of her career that brought her from the dreams of a young girl to seeing her name in lights on the grand stage. It has not all been a “bed of roses” and she has dealt with hardships, heartbreak and mental issues. From a nine to five job with British Telephone to performing the streets then to Las Vegas and cruise ships, Romany has had quite a life. Or should I say she “is” having quite a life as she is far from finished. One thing she did finish is her book, “Spun Into Gold” which is a nice promotional piece about her life but also containing advice for young girls like her who suffer(ed) from weight gain and shape issues that can lead to bulimia.
In the early part of this week’s episode, Max Maven drops in to give us his prediction of what we might expect in 2021 as it relates to Covid and “getting back into the world.”

Hail and Farewell
to magicians who left us this year.
2020 was not a kind year in general, but in particular, I had more magic friends pass away this year than any other. Perhaps it was the anxiety of the pandemic or the pandemic itself, or it could be that as I’m getting older, so are my friends. Although the list below is not exhaustive, it does reflect the names of many well-known (and some lesser known) magicians, spouses and assistants who passed on in 2020. Some may not be as well-known to you, but they were my personal friends (hey, it is my blog!). If you are unfamiliar with any of these names, then it would behoove you to do a little online search of what these people have contributed to our craft. If you have someone you think was overlooked, then please post the name in the comments below on this blog.
Those whose names are highlighted with a “hot link” were featured or interviewed here on The Magic Word Podcast. You can click on their name to revisit and listen to their voices again.

This has been a tough year for the entire world but particularly for “gig” workers…like magicians. And Las Vegas seems to employ the most magicians per square mile than any other place on earth. So, what was this past year like in Las Vegas? What is it like now? And what does the future look like? Well, this week we “return to Vegas” for our annual holiday visit with “Celebrity Magician”, Murray Sawchuck. Murray is currently the only magician working on the Las Vegas Strip, according to The New York Wire. Click Here to read the article.

This week I reconnect with an old friend who used to live and perform in Houston , Texas, before moving to our nation’s capitol, Washington, D.C.. Charles Greene III was the single busiest restaurant performer in the early 1980;s in Houston with about a dozen restaurants per week. He literally wrote the book on working magic at restaurants. He then launched a successful career in trade shows which has been his “bread and butter” for many years that has taken him around the world. Along the way he got involved with collecting vintage magic posters and has become a noted baker of baguettes.
During our conversation this week, you can hear some noise in the background as Charles prepares his baguettes for the oven. He also tells us some of the steps he is going through before they are popped into the oven. During our conversation, Charles talks about his trade show work, his travels, his background in becoming an expert in magic posters, and his work on publishing a book on Ionia.

More than a magician and more than a comedian, Harrison Greenbaum is in high demand. Our industry refers to those of us who are “comedy magicians” like Mac King, for example. But for someone who stand behind a microphone without any accoutrements and makes people laugh, well…that is a true comedian. Harrison is also well versed as a magician having attended then later taught at Tannen’s Magic Cam and performing magic at magic conventions and corporate banquets. But to the general public, Harrison is best known as a stand-up comic from his many appearances at nightclubs, on television and in theaters around the world including the Sydney Opera House.
From 2011: Harrison performs on a fundraiser for diabetes at Comic Strip Live.
Harrison makes his late night stand-up debut with a set that goes from Russia to Mars.
In this week’s episode, Harrison talks about his work in stand-up comedy, his improvisational skills, plus he gives us a little peek into what is in his magic lecture called “You Are All Terrible” that he gives at magic conventions and online.

Eileen McFalls spent much of the 1980’s with legendary street magician, Jim Cellini, during his formative and growth years on the street. All of this “underbelly” of an otherwise unseen world is brought into focus in the memoirs of his traveling companion, Eileen McFalls in, “No Ordinary Magic - Unexpected Travels with the Great Cellini.” Few books give such details recounting the sights, sounds, smells and ambiance of an era and,, indeed, of every moment on the road. You can feel the heat, smell the sweat, hear the music and feel the pressure of the street and the audience as Eileen reveals intimate details from her memoir.
The one and only Jim Cellini plays Jackson Square in New Orleans, 1985.In this episode, we hit the streets as we are transported to a different time and different places in this detailed travelogue that you will not hear anywhere else. Nowadays Ariann can be found in her native home in Canada working on her coffee table book about female magicians from yesteryear. She also currently hosts a weekly cooking show on Facebook called, “Ariann Black’s Magic Kitchen” which features recipes that are quick and easy to make.

The second half of our chat is about her successes in Las Vegas with her casino show and the heartbreaks and problems with trying to produce her own show in a male dominated industry in “Sin City” where it seems the odds are stacked against a woman trying to make her own way.

Sir Pat Trick came on the radar of most magicians at the 2013 MAGIC Live! convention when the late Joanie Spina gave a presentation about developing a stage persona. By example, she showed a video of one of her students who had submitted a video then she introduced us to Patrick Thernes who performed a completely different act with a totally new character. The transformation was evident and it led to Patrick achieving his lifelong goal of performing at the Magic Castle.
Patrick Thernes is today a performing magician but not with the same act we saw. He has also scaled back his performances in favor of producing and consulting other magicians and theater owners/producers.

This Halloween season we travel to Colorado to visit the “Stanley Hotel” where resident magician and medium (at large), Aiden Sinclair presents bizarre magic with a decided twist. You may recognize the Stanley Hotel as being the inspiration for Stephen King to write “The Shining” that was later produced into a blockbuster movie. Not only does Aiden perform his “Illusions of the Passed” (yes, that is spelled correctly) at the Stanley, but he also presents seances at the haunted Winchester House and aboard the equally possessed Queen Mary. These venues provide the perfect backdrop for the spooky performances presented by this “reformed” magician. And by “reformed” I mean…well, you will have to listen to this week’s episode.
Welcome to Illusions of the Passed! A Theatrical Seance at the Historic Stanley Hotel. Join master Illusionist Aiden Sinclair for an evening of mystery entertainment!

It was a back-story shared on “America’s Got Talent” [sic] that, along with his talents and magical skills, led him to progress rather far along the path to the finals.

Edgar Allan Poe is a “favorite son” of Baltimore, Maryland (though it is not his birthplace). Our guest this week, Vince Wilson, has established “Poe’s Magic Theatre” in the Lord Baltimore Hotel where he performs stage shows with a bizarre theme. He also welcomes guest magicians to perform in the theatre, too. To supplement the magic shows, Vince also offers dinner theatre experiences with Murder Mysteries featuring themes like Sherlock Holmes, The Mummy, and the Titanic. These are very popular and offer a different kind of entertainment experience.
Alain Nu visited the Poe House in Baltimore with Vince Wilson for Poe's Magic Theatre. We were able to spend time with some wonderful guests and helped bring wonder to Poe's Home in Baltimore. The Man Who Knows was holding the camera in this video.

We spend a lifetime of collecting (or accumulating) magic paraphernalia (books, props, posters, gimmicks, etc.) but in the end…where will it go? Who will look after it? Who will care for it or make sure it is handled/disposed of properly?
This week we talk with Gabe Fajuri, owner of Potter & Potter Auction House, who is one of the premiere auction houses that specializes in sale of collectibles and antiques of all types, including paper Americana, vintage advertising, rare books, coin-op, playing cards, gambling memorabilia, vintage posters, prints and magicana - antiques and collectibles focused on magic and magicians.
In this episode of Show & Tell, Atlas Obscura co-founder Dylan Thuras speaks with Gabe Fajuri of Potter & Potter Auctions, located in Chicago, Illinois, which focuses on all sorts of unusual objects and ephemera. From vintage magic-related memorabilia to acrobatic automatons, Fajuri has a varied, diverse collection to show off. Stay tuned to see him demonstrate the art of auctioneering and show off a skull that sold for a whopping $13,000!

That means perhaps cataloging what we have and, if we have anything of monetary consequence, talking with an attorney about how we want our collection handled after our demise or who we want to have it or handle the artifacts.

Several magicians have wanted to or tried to create their own one-man show. Few have succeeded in our community and even fewer have had “legs” that allowed them to continue their shows on an ongoing basis. Of course one of the key ingredients is to live in a metropolitan area with high traffic from local patrons as well as tourists. So, for example, it would be harder to sustain a long-running show in Wichita Falls, Texas as it would be in New York City. Next…you must have talent, patience, fortitude, and…well, you need to listen to this week’s episode to find the “secret sauce” that Ben Jackson uses to create a market for his truly unique brand of magic.

This week’s guest is John Pullum, a TV host host, mentalist, hypnotist, motivational speaker, marketing genius and virtual show “tech guru”. This week’s episode has John discussing all of this and more.
John was the TV host of the Discovery Channel series “More Than Human“, the hypnosis / mind control expert for “Unsolved History“, the psychic expert for the “More Science of Magic“, game show host for “Thrill Rides: Put To The Test“, host of the series “Cheating Death“, as well as appearing on other national and international TV shows.
I believe we are at the precipice of a sea change of how we perform magic and reach audiences. With the advent of using various virtual platforms, we need to learn and embrace technology or be left behind. As years progress, I believe this will be the “new normal” as we use this technology to reach and entertain our clients. We are no longer constrained by time and distance as we can reach any audience at any time without having to worry about arranging for travel and lodging. But reaching these audiences we must stick to the “tried and true” marketing techniques such as client testimonials which will be used to book future shows, virtual or otherwise.
Over the past few month’s John has been busy moderating and co-hosting Franz Harary’s Quarantine Talk on Facebook. In this episode John talks about some of his TV appearances and also gives some incredible marketing ideas that you’ll be able to use right away. We also get into how our new world of virtual shows and ZOOM conferences can change things for the better as far as booking shows. Use ZOOM and StreamYard to your advantage when trying to land that gig. Get a paper and pencil ready because you’ll want to take notes on this one.

During this episode I mentioned that there will be a FREE online event coming in October called “Magicians in VR” about Magic and Virtual Reality (VR). You can visit the website at: https://uploadvr.com/vr-magic-altspace/ for more information and to register. During this event, you will see prominent figures come together to virtually “educate, entertain and inspire the immersive content creation community with relevant insights about the art of magic.”
This FREE event is set to take place on Wednesday October 7 in AltspaceVR from 1:00pm PST. The event will discuss how magic can operate in virtual worlds and how the “art of storytelling, understanding audiences, and building relevant and innovative impossibilities” applies to magic in VR.
The aim is to show how digital magic in a virtual world can provide a sense of disbelief just like real world magic, and not just stem from amazement at the technology behind it. The experience will also offer some perspective on the ‘live theater’ aspect of magic, and how this can be applied to VR experiences.

In response to another listener’s request, this week we try to demystify the judging process for the World Championships of Magic, F.I.S.M. To do so, we make a visit with three leading proponents who may hold the keys. First up is Noel Britten, President of The Magic Circle in London, England. He gives great advice on what one should consider before even entering a competition. And from Las Vegas, Nevada, Past National President of the S.A.M. and Contest Chairman, Vinny Grosso, tells us about the preliminaries that one must hurdle to compete in the world championships. Then from Paris, France, Boris Wild, a F.I.S.M. winner himself and current head of the F..I.S.M. jury, sheds some light on the subject.

Looking for a book to read while under lockdown? How about enjoying the travels and travails of John-Ivan Palmer, son of the late “Master of Deception”, Jack Pyle. In this book, John (aka Jack Junior) reminisces about the post World War II days in the back of the car as they pulled their trailer back and forth across the country in search of the next gig. John talks about the many colorful characters who performed with his late father, Jack Pyle, and his adventures moving from one new school to another.
But the underlying theme of this book “Master of Deception” is John’s search for understanding his father’s undying love and passion of magic. Jack gained some level of fame (however you might describe that word) after being in several newspapers, appearing on television, in a cover article of TOPS Magazine, but most importantly, “earning his bones” on the road by traveling great distances just to keep his family alive and his passion intact.

This week’s guest is another of those who is long overdue to tell his 40+ years of experience. Dan Witkowski and his company, MagicCom, has created unique magical experiences for the NFL, Coca-Cola, General Mills, the medical field and even the Whitehorse. Dan tells a lot of interesting stories from his experience of creating and producing not just one, but two halftime shows for the Super Bowl in consecutive years.
Dan has been an infrequent guest in the past having been on at least two convention report podcasts where he was attending and giving his assessment of the daily activities. So it was a delight to have a much more in-depth conversation with him here.
In 1989, the halftime of the Super Bowl was changed forever. Instead of the usual marching bands or Disney parade floats that had previously been featured, Dan Witkowski, a Milwaukee-based producer, created a show with 2,000 dancers.

Joe Stevens opened Stevens Magic Emporium in 1973 and over the decades has been a trailblazer introducing new ideas and concepts now ingrained into our magic landscape. His Greater Magic Video Library set the standard for professionally presenting magic instruction on video. He also created the GeMiNi Network in the 1990’s which was the forerunner of every magic forum we see and use today. He also instituted the Wichita Conclave that moved to Las Vegas where it became the Desert Magic Seminar with big dollar prizes and trophies from Siegfried & Roy. These are but a few of the innovations developed by Stevens Magic Emporium and they still thrive as a brick-and-mortar magic shop plus a successful online presence guided by the next generation of the Stevens family, Mark Stevens.

If David Tennant (the tenth Dr. Who), The Amazing Kreskin and Austin Powers somehow shared their DNA to create a character, then I think the result would be Chris Cox. Hands down, Chris Cox is one of the most animated, talented, creative and exciting young mentalists I have ever seen perform. He immediately breaks the “fourth wall” as he engages with his audience and his character is loved, understood and accepted. Touring with “The Illusionists” Chris is “The Mentalist” of the group though for my money he rivaled the hilarity and warmth of “The Trickster” host of the show, David Williamson. Chris is just that dynamic and good.

In response to listeners’ requests for more content and conversations with children and family show entertainer, this week we go to the “top” and visit with David “Silly Billy” Kaye who is regarded by many as one of the best known kid show entertainers in the world today.
Before the Magic Word Podcast became a reality, I was part of a podcast produced by Dodd Vickers called “Magic Newswire”. For quite some time on Sunday evenings, Dodd put together a small band of us, each with specific backgrounds and skill sets, to talk with some of the biggest names in magic (like Johnny Thompson, Mac King, Jamy Ian Swiss, and others). One of the other “co-hosts” with me was David Kaye. Though we had known each other from our times together at various magic conventions, we got to know each other better through our Sunday evening gatherings online from our respective homes before that was a “thing”.
This is a performance of the magic trick called Princess In A Pickle, created by Silly Billy. It was shot at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. A great routine for your show. Packs really flat and plays big and funny for 7 minutes. Buy Princess in a Pickle at https://www.sillymagic.com/product/pr... Silly Billy performs children’s magic for kids in New York.

David gives us a mini-lecture on the differences in “appreciation” of magic for children of different ages. This is a wonderful, insightful and educational episode for anyone interested in performing for children, regardless if you are just getting started or if you have been entertaining children for years.

Named by MAGIC Magazine as one of “The 100 most Influential Magicians of the 20th Century.”, Harry Lorayne is a name that is respected and renown throughout generations of card magicians. He has several books and videos on magic, though in the world outside of magic he is best known as a memory expert who taught his course throughout the globe. He popularized his books, “Secrets of Mind Power” and “How to Develop a Super Power Memory” during his appearances on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and many globe trotting tours.
Today, we’ve managed to book, without exaggeration, the world’s foremost expert on memory and memory training: Harry Lorayne.

Harry tells us about how Al Hirschfeld drew his picture, how he developed his incredible memory, performing on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, his relationship with Jerry Lucas, the development of his books and the 20 years of Apocalypse, some of his favorite tricks, and he also gives us a short course in mnemonics and memory.

Although Marvyn Roy (aka “Mr. Electric”) didn’t sit down with me for a proper conversation to post as a full episode, I was able to put together three separate conversations I had with him at MAGIC Live! conventions. The first was in 2013, the next in 2016 and the last one was in 2017. Marvyn loved magic and he loved magicians. I believe that is what kept him going and kept him alive for 95 years.

This short episode is a compilation of three different conversations with Marvyn over the years. You can hear how his passion for magic is undiminished.

Michael Close has been around long enough to have seen, learned, and taught some great magic. He is best known for his close-up magic (i.e. see his incredible works “The Workers” series), but he is also an accomplished (and professional) musician. When not performing, teaching, or consulting on magic, he is performing music. He was one of the earlier performers at Illusions magic restaurant in Indiana then he was the Trick Editor for MAGIC Magazine for a decade, followed by being the editor of the M.U.M. magazine for the S.A.M. He is currently the magic consultant on “Penn & Teller Fool Us” television show.
Magician Michael Close has a trick up his sleeve! Through some neat sleight-of-hand, Michael shows how people can start blindly following others without even realizing it's happening. If you're ready to leave the pack and live your own life, visit OpenlySecular.org today to find out how.
Perhaps the greatest card trick ever performed on television (around 1997).

San Fransisco street magician, Ryan Kane, works out his show and his scripting on the streets before he puts them in his professional shows for corporate audiences. He also consciously works on identifying, eliminating and replacing his “stock” lines. As a result of his many years of experience, he has recently published a book “Out of Stock - A Magician’s Guide to Writing Your Own Lines”. This week Ryan shares the outline of his book and how you can improve your show by working on your script to become unique and in demand. He fives his five step process that is well worth your consideration.

Chris Pilsworth is not a name that is on the tip of the tongue for most magicians. He quietly performs professionally for corporations across Canada with the occasional outdoor busking, too. But he is noted for his creative ideas and consulting with magicians from Las Vegas to London and even for television in China. His approach to magic is passion and commitment with new ideas popping up all the time. If you don’t already know Chris, then you will make a new friend after hearing this week’s episode.

Chris Randall has done his time performing on the streets, in the casino showrooms, on television, on touring road shows, winning contests and more. Along the way he was coached by Vito Lupo, Joanie spna and others to finely hone his award winning act. All of this experience, practice and performance led up to his ultimate goal…competing at the triennial championships of magic…the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés Magiques (F.I.S.M.).
In this episode, Chris talks about his long road from the streets of Las Vegas to the F.I.S.M. stage in Busan, South Korea in 2018. More importantly, he divulges personal and emotional insight into his preparation and disappointment that led to his nervous breakdown.
Chris is a World Champion magician. One of his specialties is manipulation. Chris wanted a new video that showcased his award winning manipulation act. He has taken classic magic tricks and remixed them to give them an updated feel. This video was edited together to garner new work in cabarets throughout Europe as well as variety shows on the Las Vegas Strip.

This episode opens with a one minute replay of our chat eight years ago when Chris shared his dreams and five year plan of where he wanted to be…and not be. During our ensuing discussion this week, Chris doesn’t hold back the details of a story that has never been released. This episode scoops the printed version of Chris’s story with more details than may later see publication.

Magicians are often confused with being a “musician” when we tell people what we do. In the case of this week’s guest, John Sturk, both monikers are equally correct. John is a stage and street performer as well as a jazz organist. This week, John talks about performing on stage and on the streets of Colon, Michigan during the annual “busker contest” held during Abbott’s Get Together, Then in the evening, he plays the organ in the high school gym for the wonderful evening shows. Few other magic conventions offer live music in the evening shows which is, in part, what makes Abbott’s unique.
But John is also the National Second Vice President of the Society of American Magicians. As he moves “up the ladder” to National President, he gives some advice this week for clubs to grow and become stronger. John was involved with the Chicago Magic Lounge and gives us a little insight and update on the popular nightclub. And he is currently providing content on his Facebook page with a weekly broadcast of the “Sturking Hour” where he plays a little music, interacts with special guests and answers questions in real time as well as taking phone calls like a regular radio chat show.
Real magic would be having a computer that works again, but this is the second best magic - a real live John Sturk!

This week John Sturk chats with Scott about magic around Chicago, performing with his jazz trio in improv clubs, performing magic on the streets, building interest and membership in your local magic club, and more.

Darryl Rose is one of the Council members of The Magic Circle (TMC). This week we talk about TMC, some of its history and about magic in the U.K. I had planned to chat with Darryl at this year’s F.F.F.F. convention where he has occasionally acted as emcee of the “Great Britain Show”. But since the convention was canceled for this year, we had to chat via Skype. This week we chat about magicians creating new material, new apps, new content and new ideas in this digital age. Darryl also talks about being a part-time professional performer while maintaining a full-time career in television where he has been awarded an Emmy! One of the interesting things we chat about is being on the other side of a “pitch” meeting for television He tells us the importance of getting your image on social media and on television, when possible. We talk about entertainment and magic in the U.K. and the differences between there and in the U.S. plus performing at weddings. And as an aside, we chat briefly on a health update on Simon Lovell.

Mark Mason (JB Magic) always has the most people at his booth in the dealer room at magic conventions. I think that some convention organizers intentionally put him in the back of the room because they know people will be drawn through the room to get to his booth.
Mark Mason was to have been the Guest of Honor at this year’s F.F.F.F. 50th annual close-up convention. But that convention was canceled until next year. But had it occurred, then I would have recorded this episode “live and in person” with him in New York. As it happened, we used Skype for this conversation. This week we chat with Mark about his magical roots in Blackpool, England and what brought him across the pond to reside in rural Florida. We also talk about how he creates, designs and markets some of these ideas that become “must-haves” by every magician. He regularly consults with Bob Swadling who also moved from the U.K. and now resides within a 30 minute drive from Mark!
Solo probably Marks favourite J B effect.

We had a most delightful and educational visit with Past International President, Joe M. Turner in 2015 (Episode #208) where Joe gave some excellent advice about getting into the Speaking Business. This week we go in a different direction with Joe. Since magic conventions have been canceled or postponed, The Magic Word Podcast has not been able to bring you daily convention updates. So, this week we talk with one of the emcees from Obie’s 4F convention as we reminisce about some past F.F.F.F. conventions and what makes this event stand out in all the world. We also discuss the state of conventions and perhaps a glimpse of where we’re heading with our conflabs.
But before we get into the meat of this week’s podcast, one of our favorite guests, Norman Beck, has a comical take on our current situation. He provides a little relief when we need it most. Thanks, Norm, for taking our call to your “Comedy Hot Line.”
Thanks goes to Mike Maione who put together this montage of past performers at Obie’s 4F convention.

Meir Yedid is one of those guys who easily becomes one of your best friends from the first time you meet him. He always has a friendly smile and kind words to say. He has won many awards in magic and produced the video “Finger Fantasies” then ironically and tragically soon thereafter, had a car accident that severed one of his fingers. Not to be discouraged, Meir saw that as an opportunity rather than a setback. Because of his positive energy and outlook on life, he has excelled in magic having won awards and received accommodations over the years. He currently operates the online magic shop MyMagic.com and is often a dealer at magic conventions. He is also one of the members on the Board of Directors for Obie’s 4F annual convention in Batavia, New York. Since that convention was canceled for this year, he talks a bit about that, too, on this week’s podcast.

Just before we came under the cloud of the novel Coronavirus pandemic, one of the last touring magic shows I saw was The Illusionists featuring David Williamson (The Trickster), Chris Cox (The Mentalist), Hyun Joon Kim (The Manipulator), Valentin Azema (The Elusive), and Jonathan Goodwin (The Daredevil). I did not try to sit down with the entire cast, though I suggest that you go back to hear one I did in 2015 with the cast back then (including David Williamson who was just coming in to fill in for Jeff Hobson for a few dates).. This week we limited our time and our talk with just one of the cast. We have not featured an in-depth conversation with an escape artist on this podcast. But thanks to my U.K. friend, Martin Cox, I was connected with Jonathan Goodwin who opened up this whole new world to me.
Escapes have been an integral part of magic for centuries with Harry Houdini being the foremost proponent and well-known escape artist, of course. Though many have tried to replicate Harry’s daring escapes, I found it fascinating that Jonathan goes his own direction and understands what the audience “believes” and “accepts” as far as danger and “jeopardy”. He has updated escapes and brought the are to another level that resonates with audiences around the world.
U.K. Escape Artist, Jonathan Goodwin got a new tattoo for his 40th birthday honoring a quote by Harry Houdini.See more from Britain's Got Talent at http://itv.com/talent Jonathan Goodwin put his life on the line for our entertainment again and again. Take a look back...Jonathan Goodwin from The Illusionists escapes...

Jonathan talks about what level of danger and harm to his body he is willing to accept, then he works backwards from that to construct the escape. He also talks about the importance of having the audience care for you and their level of empathy. His tips are a real lesson on how to develop your character when you have little little time before you get into your act.

The name of Daniel Summers has come up on more than one occasion on this podcast. So, I thought it is time that we talk with this person who started as a ventriloquist, then became a cruise ship performer, college entertainer, hypnotist, “phone room” marketer, creator and builder. Dan is all of these plus a pretty nice guy and friends to many in the magic world. His original illusions are performed all over the world by all of the top illusionists including David Copperfield, Greg Gleason, Hans Klok and others. He has had feature articles published about him in VANISH Magazine and in MAGIC Magazine, but it is high time that you get to hear his voice.

Lou Dupont, a ventriloquist who lived and performed in Las Vegas inspired Daniel Summers. (viewer discretion advised)

Dan talks with us this week about how his career could have taken a different turn had he decided to take the job of Cruise Ship Director. He also talks about his life on cruise ships in the early years, his work in theme parks, creating illusions, building illusions, telemarketing “phone rooms”, and helping Joanie Spina in her final days.

We are at the beginning of a “new normal” for an undetermined period. This pandemic is affecting the whole world and in particular, impacting our magic community in a serious way. Groups are postponing or canceling events where we were booked and then, almost literally overnight, many of our bookings over the next few months have dried up. Businesses and schools have closed or reduced their hours, people are asked not to congregate, and international travel has been banned.
This episode is intended to keep us connected and to let each of you know that you are not alone as we are all feeling the pain. The assortment of guests on this week was random but includes performers from various backgrounds from cruise ships to corporate and birthday parties to trade shows. It is uncertain how long this trip will be and where it will take us, make us, or break us. Hopefully, it will be short and we can all return to doing what we love…entertaining people with magic!
In this episode, Jamie Salinas discusses the cancellation of shows during this Pandemic.

A link is mentioned on the podcast that refers you to the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Here is the link for all of the State Departments in the U.S.: https://www.cdc.gov/publichealthgateway/healthdirectories/healthdepartments.html
Johns Hopkins has an excellent website with regular updates and news on the virus. Click Here to visit their website.
Recommendations from The Centers for Disease Control (the CDC) regarding the novel coronavirus:
* Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
* Clean your hands often. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing, or having been in a public place. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.
* To the extent possible, avoid touching high-touch surfaces in public places—elevator buttons, door handles, handrails, handshaking with people, etc. Use a tissue or your sleeve to cover your hand or finger if you must touch something.
* Wash your hands after touching surfaces in public places.
* Avoid touching your face, nose, eyes, etc.
* Clean and disinfect your home to remove germs: practice routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (for example: tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, desks, toilets, faucets, sinks, and cell phones).
* Avoid crowds, especially in poorly ventilated spaces. Your risk of exposure to respiratory viruses like COVID-19 may increase in crowded, closed-in settings with little air circulation if there are people in the crowd who are sick.
And, in addition, do NOT shake hands, hug, or kiss anyone on the cheek! Elbow bumps are the order of the day.

Mercer Helms is a retired dove magician, though he shouldn’t be “pigeon-holed” like that (pun intended). He has retired to Houston, Texas after a long and illustrative career in Los Angeles California and Las Vegas, Nevada. Many years ago he continues to work in and around Houston due to his wife’s failing health. We frequently worked together at Houston’s Magic Island where he was the opening dove act and much loved by the audiences.
You can view a video of him performing his dove routine on the Magicana.com website by Clicking Here

In this week’s episode, Mercer talks about his relationship with Phyllis Diller, how they came to know each other, a few “tales from the road”, plus what it was like working in the old circuit that included the Catskills and old Las Vegas.

Jamie Allen is known as the iMagician and the “High Tech Houdini” who brings magic into today’s age using modern technology. His stage show is unlike traditional magic shows and even some of the classics in magic (i.e. sawing in half, sub trunk, and the zig-zag) have all been updated with original twists and video introductions that give some entertaining and historical background on some of those effects. He also uses Augmented Reality (A/R) to perform some of his close-up effects that are projected on the big overhead screens.

Jamie talks about what it’s like performing magic in today’s age with interest in high-tech and how he develops magic for today’s world and today’s audiences. He also talks about the “stigma” associated with performing on cruise ships ,traveling with a stage show, the changes in venues and audience’s tastes in the U.K. He also talks about the changes in the cruise ship industry as it affects magicians.

Hannibal is another magician who got into magic later in life. He was 26 when he decided to make it a career. In this episode, he talks about being creative, finding his character, developing his unique act after he was forced to improvise. He also talks about scripting versus “Jazz magic”, performing in theatres vs. intimate venues, the benefits of street performing, and his Renaissance character as Hannibal the Liar. He also discusses what “Magic” is to him. We even have a little workshop on creativity and “not stopping too soon” when thinking about your act or a routine. The main point of this episode is inspiring you create a memorable moment in your act that your audience will take home and keep forever.
He also has a blog entitled, “The Truth Is…” which you can find by Clicking Here.
A fun little effect performed at the Magic Castle. Enjoy! Thank you for watching,

This week, Hannibal talks about how (out of necessity) he developed a new close-up act, how he developed his character, the progress of developing his act, and he even holds a little workshop on how to think beyond what you believe is “finished.” It’s almost like a mini-lecture, all tied up neatly in this week’s episode.

Christian Engblom joined me along with Chip Romero, Caesar Trujillo and Rob Greenlee late one night in my backyard sipping martinis and smoking cigars. The ambiance was perfect and the conversation was epic. Christian shared some of his philosophy on magic and Chip talked about his cruise experiences and shared philosophy. Christian talked about Juan Tamaiz and Dani DaOrtiz and Chip talked about Doug Henning. It was a fun conversation where you feel you are right in the conversation with us. So pull up a chair and enjoy this episode. I know you’ll learn something, too!

Christian talks about developing his “Anti-Faro” shuffle, performing on “Penn & Teller Fool Us”, and Chip Romero talks about Doug Henning and cruise ships.

As we begin the convention season for 2020, we kick off with a chat with two locals from Colon, Michigan, home of several magic conventions and “conventionally” known as the “Magic Capital of the World.” John Sterlini owns and operates Sterlini Magic Manufacturing and Carl Thornton owns the local “Five Star Pizza”. They talk about life in this village and how it became known as the Magic Capital of the World and why it keeps and deserves that moniker.

It is not the intent of this podcast to promote one convention over another nor any performer wishing to promote him/herself. This episode is presented in an effort to let you know about what makes one convention and one small town unique. Each convention and every magician is unique with its own interesting story. This is one of those stories.

Nathan Coe Marsh knows who he is, what he wants and how to get it. He decided long ago to focus his talents on the corporate market even though he has a background of doing a little (or a lot) of everything from close-up to cruise ships and even doing emcee work and even a show “on the college circuit.” He decided to put his energy into stand-up and stage and trying now to find the right niche in the corporate market for his style.

Nathan talks about corporate shows and getting on the syndicated TV show, “Penn & Teller Fool Us” and why he chose the path that he is on. We go deep into the intricacies of the “Linking Finger Rings” routine highlighting some important subtleties. He even details the items in his corporate act.

A listener who became interested in magic later in life suggested that I consider chatting with others who may have a similar story. I thought that would be an interesting topic and perhaps even inspirational to others who might feel that it's too late to "teach an old dog new tricks." Well, this week we feature chats with a dozen listeners who responded and have interesting stories to tell.

This week we feature a conversation that has been in queue for a few months but is a wonderful, inspirational episode to end the year and prepare for a new year. Mahdi Gilbert is a Canadian magician and inspirational speaker who has been slowly gaining attention on the international scene. His manipulation skills are amazing when you consider that he has no hands or feet, much like the 17th century German magician, Matthias (Matthew) Buchinger. Mahdi hosts his own podcast called “The Caged Canary” on the BeforeMagic.com website that is well worth hearing.

In this conversation, we talk about what “being on television” does for your career (or not) such as “Penn & Teller Fool Us” and “America’s Got Talent”. He also talks about working in China, working with tech companies in developing aids for those without hands, and a little history lesson about Matthias Buchinger. He also talks about how he has overcome his challenges and learned to type, play the piano, and more. He also talks and inspires corporate executives and youth groups in his talks. He discusses how he was bullied as a child and taken advantage of and beaten up and what he did to adapt and react.

As creative magicians, we should always look to other creative types outside our art to see what “makes them tick.” I recently traveled to Las Vegas and sat down in the home of the number one leading artist in worldwide sales, Michael Godard. As stated on his website, the decision to become a full-time painter came later in his life, after stints as a mechanical engineer, commercial illustrator, caricature artist and successful entrepreneur. Nothing came easy…he fought his way into an art career, inventing his own one-of-a-kind style. His martini art features olives, grapes and other frisky characters busily expressing Godard's slightly off-kilter point of view. With plenty of talent to challenge the 'serious' artists, Michael Godard took his own path instead, and chose to "learn all the rules, and then break them".
During our conversation on The Magic Word Podcast, Michael Godard was a wonderful guest and he gave us a tour of his mansion.

“G” as he likes to be called by his friends, has earned this reputation through hard work and an original brand and an incredible eye for marketing. I thought it would be interesting to see what makes an artist “tick” and what spurs his creative juices and see what similarities we as magicians have with our performing art to what he as an illustrative artist does. We had a fun and enlightening conversation that will surely inspire you to be more creative, too.

When it comes to internationally known “dove workers” in our art, one name that is always mentioned, Dimmare. James Dimmare performs an elegant act that has been widely acclaimed as unique, creative and simply brilliant. He currently resides in Las Vegas where he has a weekly show at The Mint. He recently moved from The Thunderbird with his “Martinis and Magic” show that does not feature him performing doves. Instead, James presents a comical, interactive retro-type show that involves audience participation, some silent bits, and lots of talking and even a stage illusion!
One of the greatest Magic Manipulators of all time with or without Doves. The one, the only DIMMAREDimmare at Cosmo's Magic Theater in Colorado Springs Sept, 21 & 22

This week The Magic Word Podcast went on location to Frankie’s Tiki Room in Las Vegas where we sipped martinis and smoked cigars as we chatted about dove magic, care and handling of doves, working in Las Vegas showrooms and other international cities, and Dimmare even talked about the mob in Canada. There are a lot of interesting, entertaining and educational stories in this week’s episode.

It’s nearly Christmas time which means it’s time for our annual visit with Las Vegas’ “Celebrity Magician”, Murray Sawchuck. Murray works hard to promote his brand through social media as well as on multiple television appearances as he continues into his second year at the Tropicana with the occasional time out to perform across the country for special performances. Murray helps out the homeless and needy around this time of year and also sponsors an annual Family Variety Holiday Spectacular show called “Beggin’ for Magic Charity Show” with proceeds benefiting “Friends for Life Humane Society.” This year’s guests will include Lance Burton, Piff the Magic Dragon, Fielding West, James Dimmare, and many others.

Greg Wilson builds on the dynasty of the Wilson name in the magic community. He has created his own way since his early appearances on his mom and dad’s TV series, “The Magic Land of Allakazam” by performing large illusion shows of his own. But today he is focused on preserving the legacy of the TV show through his efforts in preserving film, stories, props and ephemera from the long running series. You can visit the website at AllakazamArchives.com to see videos and a lot more, plus help support this preservation venture. Mark C. Wilson is an actor, musician, filmmaker, producer, teacher and magician but perhaps best known in Texas as “Merlin the Wise” at the Sherwood Forest Faire near Austin. In this week’s episode, Mark talks about something that only has been discussed by a handful of previous guests: developing his character. Merlin is an iconic character so how does one pull it off? Mark has an acting background and has spent much time on developing this persona. You may not plan to every perform at a Renaissance Festival, but you will do well to take to heart the lessons he learned and teaches here. For more information, please visit his Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/MerlinTheWise/
Magician, actor, and musician Mark Connelly Wilson performs as "Merlin The Wise" with "Nimue" played by Lydia Kettle, and "Newt" played by his daughter Elissa Wilson, during the 2010 opening season of Sherwood Forest Faire on the Greenwood stage. This was the movie discussed at the end of our podcast. The music and singing in this trailer was provided by Mark C. Wilson.

Dan Fleshman has been around a long time and a recognized figure in our magic community. He managed and operated several comedy clubs back in the day. But for the past 30 years, he has been making his living as a professional magician. Performing three hours a night, five days a week for the past ten years at the Chop House in the Aspen, Colorado area makes him an “expert” in the field of restaurant work.

This week Dan Fleshman talks about his experience in managing comedy clubs and working as a professional magician in an upscale steak house in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Along the way, Dan shares some advice, wisdom, tips and tricks plus several funny stories along the way..

Hal Myers is one of those magicians who has been working hard but keeping out of the limelight of working at magic conventions preferring instead to make a professional living. And indeed he has with performances around the world including cruise ships and even in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) perhaps better known as North Korea. His story was extensively written up in November 2013 Issue 10 of VANISH Magazine (get your free digital issue by Clicking Here), but he also talks about it in this week’s podcast. He has only recently popped up his head into the U.S. magic community by taking a 20+ city lecture tour across the country.

Hal Meyers is also known as Dameon. In this week’s episode, Hal explains how and why he decided to use this stage name. Our chat begins with his cruise work and why he didn’t enjoy it, but the meat of this story is really about how and why he traveled to and performed in North Korea.

In this fourth installment of our October “Month of Boo”, we have two great suggested books for you to read. Neither book is a “magic book” per se, but they are interesting reads that are perfect for this month. One is about the some of those who died on stage while the other is about an individual who, though long gone, still is alive in our imaginations today.
The first, “The Life and Afterlife of Houdini” by Joe Posnanski, a sports writer who ventured out with his first book on magic, this one about Houdini and why his name still resonates in our world 93 years after his death. It is a fascinating look at an aspect of Houdini that has not yet been explored. It puts to death some of the myths surrounding Houdini, but it is because of those myths that we have the legend.
The second book, “The Show Won’t Go On” by Jeff Abraham and Burt Kearns is a respectful look at the lives and deaths of those who died while doing something they love. Yes, many have figuratively died on stage, but these have literally died on stage.

Hello, World!
Hello, World!

Paul Prater is a “bizarrist” in his magic style as he loves and explores the unusual side of our art. He creates props and scripts that lead his audiences down a very spooky path, and they love going with him. Since 2017 Paul has been presenting “Haunted Argenta” in Argenta, Arkansas which is a Ghost Tour. He as recently added “Boos and Brews, The Lacivious and Wild Tales of Argenta”. You may think that Argenta isn’t so spooky, but thousands of Native Americans died here on the Trail of Tears, plus other real and mythical tales.

Paul tells how he found the venue where he performs his Ghost Tours and how he developed his market. Paul is also an attorney who decided to go down this path as his living and he talks about why he chose this path.

This is the book referred to in the podcast, "Paranormality, Why We See What Isn't There" by Richard Wiseman. Highly recommended!

We caught up with John Ferrentino earlier this summer at the I.B.M. convention in Scottsdale, Arizona, where we had a chance to sit down and have a great discussion. John is best known as a comedian and a comedy magician having performed thousands of shows across the country and making multiple television appearances. Recently, John has been taking his professional performances in a completely new and different direction away from comedy. Some would say the complete opposite from the standpoint that he now conducts seances and creates spooky and serious performances that will creep out his audiences rather than leaving them in hysterical stitches.

John talks about working in comedy clubs in the 20th century, going to Woodstock, touring with and opening for a music group (Crosby, Stills and Nash) for ten years, and now doing spooky stuff with his seances.

David Parr is…well, a bit of an enigma in our world today. He took the rather circuitous path to eventually find his own way to happiness. If this sounds like an existential existence, then you’d be right. Like many of us, David has tried many paths, including comedy clubs and magic, before he settled on being a Bizarre Magician. His thoughts on the subject and how he sees this area of our art and how he got there is the subject of our conversation.
As a Theater Major in school, he has always favored the dramatic and storytelling side of performing. Along the way, he blazed a trail for others to follow when magic was not considered a “theatrical art” but relegated to children’s birthday parties. He has learned how to find theaters and convince them to engage and partner with him for successful magic performances that tell stories.

Dal Sanders was with the McDonald’s organization for 40 years and is still smiling. And he has a lot to smile about. He is still entertaining children through his Kartoon Circus television show on SpydarTV that is broadcast internationally and features him as the magical ringmaster and his lovely wife, Cindy, as “Boopsie the Clown”. He is Past National President of the Society of American Magicians and currently edits the Magic Compass, an online newsletter that features stories about current events in the magic community. He and Cindy also teach magic at the Dallas Magic Academy and he produces “Magic In The Living Room” each month at a venue in Dallas, Texas. He is also responsible for Magic Monday on “All In With Bryan Weatherford”, another online television show that features business entrepreneurs. And in 2019 he was presented with an Award of Merit by the Academy of Magical Arts for helping to get congress to pass a bill recognizing magic as a legitimate art form. In other words, Dal is a busy, busy man.
In this video Dal Performs FLASH CARDS on his Nationally Syndicated show KARTOON CIRCUS.

The sensation of the U.K, Derren Brown, makes a triumphal return to the U.S. with his Broadway production of Derren Brown: Secret. This is the same show he gave in New York a few years ago in a much small theater off Broadway. This time he is in a 1,000 seat theater where Doug Henning performed in “The Magic Show” for four year (1,920 performances), the beautiful Cort Theatre. The show opened on September 6, 2019 (with the official opening on September 15th) and will run through January 4, 2020.
We were asked not to talk about the details or running order of the show, so I can only say that it is one of the top magic shows you will ever see. Derren is a wonderful orator and commands attention every moment of the show. His scripting and narrative is compelling draws us into a world that few have ever visited. Everyone wanted Derren to enter their minds and reveal their thoughts. I think it’s safe to say that New Yorkers have never witnessed anything like this before which is why I think word will spread and this will be a sold-out show and be extended beyond their scheduled ending date.
Performances begin September 15, 2019 and will run through Jan 4, 2020 at the Cort Theatre. derrenbrownsecret.com

Greg Gleason has been out to sea but now he’s back on land and making waves. Many years ago he was managing several Texas nightclubs including Houston’s Magic Island. He later moved to Las Vegas and worked for years at Caesar’s Magic Kingdom. And when he went to sea, Greg had the largest illusion show on the ocean. He still has warehouses full of illusions. Now he performs on television and theaters for the Masters of Illusion show while working to open magic-themed nightclubs in the U.S.
Magician Greg Gleason has taken his illusions to 85 countries, and he's currently in Las Vegas at Bally's Jubilee Theater. Gleason is also featured on The CW's "Masters of Illusion," airing on Fridays at 8 p.m. Story: https://bit.ly/2M8UTOM

There are a fairly large number of great card magicians creating original magic. But the man whose card magic has resonated most with magicians in the last 30 years is John Bannon. Why? We think it's because John has just the right cocktail of ingredients: his magic is DIFFERENT than what others are doing. John has shared his magic through a series of books and DVD’s that have revolutionized card tricks. John is a low key, self-effacing, intellectual who is an attorney by day and a card trick innovator on weekends. For the last few decades, John has been part of the Saturday Session with Simon Aronson, David Solomon and David Finkelstein who work on and develop innovative card tricks.

This week we chat with a couple fiction authors who have magicians as the central character in their stories. Greg Koren is up first who talks about his newest book, “The Memory Trap”. The book is directed towards young readers and also for parents to read to their children. The premise of the book is that the central character, Henry Dunne, is about to be suspended from his new middle school for something he didn't do, and the principal's old but beloved car is about to disappear for the last time. Henry and the principal agree to help each other, but these unlikely friends don't realize the deck has been stacked against them, and time is running out. Henry must confront his fears and figure out whom to trust before the sinister force making their lives miserable steps from the shadows to deal the final, crushing blow. In helping to solve this mystery, Henry uses his knowledge of Tamariz’s “Mnemonica” card stack for his “memory palace”.
Greg is a recipient of the Maryland State Teachers Association’s School Bell Award for excellence in education writing, the Associated Press’s Mark Twain award for his feature writing, and six awards from the MDDC Press Association. He is the author of the critically acclaimed one-act play An Arrangement of Convenience, a winner of the Maryland Playwrights Festival, which was produced by the Vagabond Theater in Baltimore in 1989.
Koren fell in love with the imaginative world of middle-grade fiction after becoming a homeschooler and stay-at-home dad for his two children. Currently, he lives with his wife in Baltimore and works as a professional magician and mentalist.
John Gaspard is the author of the Eli Marks mystery series as well as two other stand-alone novels, "The Greyhound of the Baskervilles" and "The Ripperologists." He just completed “The Zombie Ball” as the sixth in the Eli Marks mystery series, which he discusses in this week’s podcast. “The Zombie Ball” opens with Eli being asked to perform his magic act at a swanky charity gala, The Zombie Ball– a former zombie pub crawl which has grown into an annual high-class social event. What begins as a typical stage show for Eli turns deadly when two of the evening’s sponsors are found murdered under truly unusual circumstances. Compounding this drama is the presence of Eli’s ex-wife and her new husband, Homicide Detective Fred Hutton. Under pressure to solve the crime before the 800 guests depart, Eli and his detective nemesis go head-to-head to uncover the bizarre clues that will unravel this macabre mystery.
In real life, John Gaspard is not a magician, but he has directed six low-budget features that cost very little and made even less – that’s no small trick. He’s also written multiple books on the subject of low-budget film making. Ironically, they’ve made more than the films. John lives in Minnesota and shares his home with his lovely wife, several dogs, a few cats and a handful of pet allergies.

One of the stand-out hit speakers of the 2019 MAGIC Live! event was Mark Randall, former Chief Strategist and Vice President of Creativity for Adobe. He was the first speaker on the General Session and set the tone of the event for creativity and challenging us to think “inside the box” and create our own innovative magic. He knows his stuff as he was responsible for the creation of Photo Shop and PDF’s which we all use today. I am glad he gave his time to sit behind the microphone and share his talk plus additional ideas on this podcast.
A Practical Guide to Accelerating Innovation In his talk, Mark Randall will share two important aspects that have helped shape his career: a practical guide to accelerating innovation and the two absolute requirements to find your dream job.Thinking inside the box by Mark Randall, Chief Strategist and VP of Creativity @ Adobe Global Innovation Forum, 01 & 02 November 2017, London UK As Chief Strategist and VP of Creativity Mark drives innovation efforts across Adobe through the Kickbox process he created as well as develops high-potential new business opportunities as leader of the H3 innovation lab.

Mark Randall is more than a creator but he was (and “is”) a magician. He was a Junior Member of the Academy of Magical Arts and he talks about his magical roots and mentors that led him to create the “Kick Box” which is like a Magic Kit that helps employees to be innovators. This episode is like an extended “TED-type Talk” where Mark expands on the subject of his session at the 2019 MAGIC Live! convention.
