Here’s another “blast from the past” episode! As a busy primary care doctor early in my career, one of my first side gigs was writing and publishing eBooks online.

Did you know BootstrapMD wasn’t my first podcast?
Years ago, I co-hosted a podcast entitled The Internet Income Show, with my good friend and entrepreneur whiz Eric Louviere.
It was a show devoted to a general audience on building a successful internet business. And it just goes to show you, no matter how things change online, some things remain the same. I thought it would be fun to share some of these recordings, and there are some really good nuggets of information that I hope will get you in the mindset of taking that side gig into a full fledged business.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Sharon McLaughlin felt alone as a female physician entrepreneur.
Having created a successful skin care line for her private practice, she yearned to connect with other women entrepreneurs, to network and share experiences. Unfortunately, what she found was a ghost town.
So just like any good entrepreneur would do, she went and created her own solution! She is the founder of the popular Facebook group Female Physician Entrepreneurs that has over 6000 members, some of whom I’ve interviewed here on the BootstrapMD podcast.

If you’re like most doctors, you tend to overcomplicate and overanalyze things. Case in point: Developing a product, such as an online course. Unlike medicine: launching a product is generally not a life and death decision. As my mentor would say, it doesn’t have to be perfect or great, it just has to be good enough. If you have the solution to help another human, most rational people won’t care that your graphic is a little off-center or your sales copy has too many run-on sentences.
They just want to believe your course solves their problem. I’ve seen too many doctor entrepreneurs procrastinate and perseverate and eventually never release that product, because it has to be perfect. Spoiler alert: It’s never going to be perfect.
One way to overcome this is by creating what’s known as a minimum viable product. At the end of the podcast, I’ll give you a step by step approach to launching your next great idea out into the world, that will save you time, money, and headaches.

A high salary does not often correlate to high net worth.
Although most doctors can generate an upper income wage, why does it seem a lot of physicians struggle when it comes to finance?

Parallel Marketing is a marketing strategy I have used for over a decade, especially if you are looking to pay for traffic, but don’t want to break the bank. Although originally used for Google Adwords (now called Google Ads), it can be a powerful method for Facebook Ads (even though it was created before Facebook ads were a thing! I first taught this to my marketing students, and now want to share this unique strategy with you! This can be especially helpful when you are struggling to better understand your ideal audience (whether it be physicians or whomever) and increase your reach.
As you may know, we completed our BootcampMD conference, our workshop for online physician entrepreneurs just over a month ago, but the buzz is still going on! When I quit being an employed doctor, and started my online business many years ago, I got ZERO support from my physician colleagues at the time.
Talking about starting a business as a doctor (let alone a side gig) was taboo.
There certainly weren’t the number of physician forums and podcasts there are now.
Recently, I came across an email that I completely forget about, that my former boss wrote about ME.. I don’t want to give it away. but you really have to see it to believe it.
