E354 | Be Brutally Honest With Me
9 perc 100. rész

Sugar-coating and protecting someone's feelings does not serve anyone, it only leads to them not tackling the real issues. The only time you can make drastic moves in your life is when you know, that you know the hard truth. Do you have anyone in your life that is willing to be direct with you and help you solve issues?

E353 | If You’re Not Growing, You’re Dying
7 perc 100. rész

Regardless of the size of your business, it will have it’s problems, be it taxes or lack of cash-flow. You get to choose which problems you have. Do you have problems because you are taking action and growing or do you have problems because you are hanging back and praying for better prices?

E352 | Farmers Like To Hide
8 perc 100. rész

We’ve been conditioned to hide things our whole life; to keep business and home life separate, but that is not how it works. The two are completely intertwined. If work is a mess, that’s all you think about at home, and if your home life is a mess, that’s all you think about at work. Both parts of your life can rob the other.

E351 | I’m Going To Be Direct With You
8 perc 100. rész

Anyone can feed you fantasy, but that isn't going to help you or help grow your operation but being direct and honest can and will. If you have people in your life right now that aren’t willing to be direct with you, you need to start surrounding yourself with different people.

E350 | Start Working With Reality
9 perc 100. rész

Be sure that you operate from a place of facts and reality and not just hopes and wishful thinking. This holds true across all areas of your life. The more you operate from reality with your family, friends, business, and even your health, the better set up you’ll be to actually obtain the results you want.

E349 | Ol’ Ellen Degeneres
8 perc 100. rész

Don’t concern yourself with what the person in the White House is doing, or a popular talk show host or anyone else that doesn't directly affect you. It doesn’t help or serve you to waste the time, energy, and attention on what they think or do. Is your focus on the things that produce for you?

The majority of people don’t know their numbers because they don’t want to know their numbers. They know they won’t look good so they avoid looking at them. Once you know your numbers, they will wake you up to the reality you are in and you’ll get creative and think differently about your operation.

E344 | People Hate Change
8 perc 100. rész

The problem we run into most frequently when working with family in the Ag industry is their refusal to change. Your extended family’s feelings must come second to what is best for you,  your wife, and your kids. If you just soak the negativity that you’ll get while trying to make big changes you’ll never get anything accomplished or make any meaningful changes.

E334 | Guilt and Forgiveness

Growing up on the farm we are not really taught how to deal with guilt and forgiveness. One of the biggest problems in society today is that everyone is living fake lives. We all put up a front of perfection to hide the truth behind it, because we care far too much what everyone thinks about us. E322 | Scale, Mess, and Debt
7 perc 100. rész

We often tell ourselves the story that “the more acres I farm, the more revenue I’ll have, and more revenue is more profit.” but this just isn't the case. If you take on land that you aren’t ready for, it inevitably leads to failure and mess. That mess in-turn creates debt for the business, and not only financial debt but productivity, attention, and work debt. A solid foundation is key to scale.

We grew up listening to them tell us not to express our emotions, to hold it in, to control ourselves. E300 | Privacy
9 perc 100. rész

We were taught to never talk about our financial position or our relationships. These are unwritten laws. The problem is, when we are not talking about them, we are not looking at the facts. If we’re not looking at the facts, we’re living in fantasy-land, pretending that everything is ok when in reality it is not.

E299 | Entertainment vs. Education

We only have a finite amount of time and energy every day, and we need to stay focused on where we are paying our attention. Most farmers listen to the radio while on the combine. E297 | Happiness is Found in the Process
7 perc 100. rész

Jim Carey once said “I wish everyone could have the experience of being rich” so they would learn the lesson that comes with being rich. We were taught to believe that our happiness exists somewhere out there, that someday we’ll have it when we have attained this other thing. That is dead wrong. Happiness is found in the process of living.

E296 | I am a Failure
7 perc 100. rész

Failure has been transformed from an action into an identity. When we say “I failed” what do we think? We end up thinking that “I am a failure.” We have an opportunity to shift this misconception with our children. We should be thinking that every time we fail, we get better. Actions either produce results or fail to produce results, that's it, there is no identity there, and there shouldn’t be.

E295 | Putting Your Family at Risk
7 perc 100. rész

When I left the banking industry with $6,000 to my name everyone said I was putting my family at risk, when in fact it was the exact opposite. If I had stayed inside that life, I was putting a cap on myself and my potential. Instead if we double down on ourselves and invest in ourselves, we can change the way we operate, which will lead to bigger results.

E292 | You Have a Responsibility
9 perc 100. rész

If you grew up on the farm, you most likely don’t talk about money. Having this mindset can morph into a situation where we aren’t even aware of our numbers, and this leads to a scarcity mindset. If we want to go out and impact our legacy and leave something behind for our family, it is our responsibility to shift this mindset to one where we go out and create value to generate income.

E291 | Focus on the Truth
7 perc 100. rész

When we are passionate about things in our life it is easy to allow our emotions to make our decisions for us. In those moments it is important to step back, boil down the thought, and ask ourselves “Is this true?” What are the facts and how much have you allowed your emotions to take over?

E290 | Bad Relationships
8 perc 100. rész

When we’re looking at the problems on the farm due to bad relationships with family, those problems prevent us from making decisions, which has a financial long time cost. The first place to start with bad relationships is ourselves. We must learn enough about ourselves so we can course correct and change the outcome of bad conversations by simply being aware of who we are.

7 perc 100. rész

It is easy to just follow the pack and do what everyone else is doing. Rather than choosing to do what is best for us and our family, and what we want to achieve we just do the same old thing that everyone else is doing, or that everyone else is telling us we should do. How many of the choices you have made are yours and yours alone?

E287 | Burnout
9 perc 100. rész

It is too often that we won’t say “no” when asked to do work outside of what we typically offer. This, coupled with a constant drive to get more income will inevitably lead to burnout. Rather than focusing down on what you love to do and what you are good at, you’ll just end up burning all your free and family time. You can't see the path until you let go of what isn’t working.

E286 | Negative Comments Negative Life
12 perc 100. rész

Whenever we have something negative to say about someone else, that is what we deep down think about ourselves. Many of us have negative people in our lives, and what we must do is distance ourselves from them. If we want what their lifestyle is, then that is what we are going to get, negativity. Filling our people with positive views, enables us to see the positivity in our lives.

E285 | My Banker’s Involvement
9 perc 100. rész

A lot of loan officers today are only there to collect their salary and sit in a comfortable office, they are not in the game with you. They are playing a completely different game. When you take advice and counsel from people outside the game that don’t experience the same things, you are asking for trouble.

E284 | Some Are Committed Most Are Not
8 perc 100. rész

The majority of people are just talkers; all talk and no action. The fewer talkers, and the more action-takers you surround yourself with, the better off you’ll be. Investing in yourself and surrounding yourself with people that take action and are doing what is required to get things done, will change you and change your life.

Regardless of what the market is doing, we need to figure out how to grow the business, we need to figure out how to expand the operation to count on other systems that yield revenue, so no matter what happens, income is still coming. Is your business currently swimming against the tide of bigger farms, or are you adapting so that you can grow as well?

E282 | Time to Take Responsibility
8 perc 100. rész

Until we are ready to take responsibility for the results we’ve created inside our life, good or bad, we will not find the fire inside of us to go out and create new results. Being intentional about the first two hours of our day, spending the time to learn, level up our skills, can set the tone for the rest of the day. Winners take responsibility for everything.

7 perc 100. rész

The truth hurts when you realize you are wasting 100's of hours a year on tasks and things that aren’t improving your business or making your operation more profitable. We must change the way we look at everything in order to make a difference in our business. It will take a lot of hard work and hard conversations in order to face the facts of our lives.

The majority of people go through life never understanding, worrying about, and complaining about things that they can’t control. At the same time, the majority of people don’t take action on the things they can control. Listing out the things that could go wrong in your life, then identifying the things you can’t control, will help you to develop an action plan on things you can control.

We have to become masters of our own mindset. Inside of Legacy Farmer Academy we are having conversations around how to shape and control our environment, even the one in our head. Suicide is on the rise inside the farming community across the world, and the default answer is go to a counselor...are you kidding me?

8 perc 100. rész

We need to be sacrificing and working hard today to have a better tomorrow. Not just for ourselves but for those that come after us. Look at the people around you that are 40 or 50 years older than you. If you don’t like where they are, then you need to do something different to not end up in the same place. What is the long-term cost of you not sacrificing today for a better tomorrow.

Don’t let that stop you from telling and sharing the truth.

It doesn’t matter if you are farming over 10K acres, or work 18 hours a day if the business isn’t cash flowing. We fight nonstop for an operation that is not providing us what we want or need. Oftentimes we fear the blowback and criticism from making a massive change more than making the change itself. Eventually the pain will get so heavy until you have no option but to change.

We can often get in a place where we lie to ourselves and others so frequently that we start to believe the lies as truth and don’t even recognize them as lies anymore. It becomes easier to hide behind the lie than to face the weight, pain, and truth of the situation. This happens in every aspect of life, not just business. Where in your life are you hiding behind lies?

E274 | Guilt From Taking a Stand

We were all raised to always be the “nice guy,” to always give up our time to help others, to always be kind, etc, and being raised this way can breed guilt when we start to value our time more. This can also cause guilt when working the family farm and we want to express a desire to do things differently. That guilt is the one thing keeping you from all the things you want out of your life.

It’s better to have everything or nothing than to be in a place of comfort because in a place of comfort you aren’t forced to do anything. Somewhere inside your life, you are facing a problem, either at home, your business, or your health, somewhere, and the biggest problem, wherever that is, is you. Getting past yourself, your beliefs, the stories you tell yourself is the real problem.

Does hitting that huge number actually get you what you want? What does your life look like when you get to where you are going?

Sometimes we have to make decisions so hard that it is akin to letting a piece of our identity or being die to save and push forward the rest of ourselves. These are decisions that we get to through facts and by shedding the false impressions of emotions. The longer you avoid doing the hard things that you know you need to do, the more painful God is going to make your life, until you listen.

Our wives do not have the support that they need.

Work ethic is not the problem in the modern-day farm economy, we all know how to work. The issue is that the amount of time we are putting in, isn’t resulting in the gains we want in our life. Being a price maker means that you work X hours and control how much each of those hours is worth. This adds stability because you know how much you’ll have coming in on the other side of those hours and can plan accordingly.
