Every Horror Movie On Netflix

This week, we celebrate a very important milestone: our 100th episode! Can you believe it? But instead of resting on our laurels we're getting right back to business— reviewing the 1988 camp classic "Killer Klowns from Outer Space." We also go on a few tangents about Joko Anwar (again), gay Captain America, the X-Men, James Wan's masterpiece "Dead Silence," and we look ahead to self-cancelling for our 101st episode.

This week, we choose to go to the moon not once but twice! First, Patrick and Chris discuss the 1995 blockbuster APOLLO 13, which set the standard for lunar disaster movies. Then, we watch APOLLO 18, the 2011 horror movie about the secret final moon mission... and why we never went back. But that's not all! We also chat about USC's horror webinar series, Joko Anwar, TOURIST TRAP (1979), Ken Russell's THE DEVILS, COHERENCE, S. Craig Zahler, the career of Gary Sinise, the presidential alien, and how to hunt for meteorites in the wilderness of Western Canada. That's the far-fetched premise of #ALIVE, the latest zombie thriller from South Korea, in which unlikely hero Joon-Woo must not only navigate an infested apartment block, but also cyberspace, the friend-zone, the instant-noodle zone, the threatening-neighbor zone, the mountaineering-equipment space, and the voice-mail zone... posting through it all the way.

This week the gang tours the dewey forests of Washington state for a spooky, fantastic adventure with Daniel Radcliffe— eat your heart out, Robert Pattinson! It's HORNS, adapted from the Joe Hill novel of the same name. After Ig Perrish is blamed for his girlfriend Merrin's heinous murder, he magically sprouts demon horns and sets off to clear his name. Join us as we solve the murder mystery and plenty of other mysteries along the way.

This week the gang logs on for the cyber-thriller UNFRIENDED, in which a group of teenage cyber-friends match wits with the cyber-ghost of the girl they cyber-bullied one cyber-year prior. Plus: we'll talk about some our own cyber-exploits and report from the Todd McFarlane beat with a bit of new Spawn non-news.

This week we reflect on a year of real-life horror and how our relationships to the show and to media changed in 2020. Per tradition, we hand out awards to our favorite (and least favorite) Netflix movies and other horror discoveries, and bestow the coveted Spirit of Jai Award to three worthy Netflix horror characters.

It's amazing what a mirror can do to a space: it can add texture, light, depth, or— if you get the mirror from a junk pile outside a haunted house-- it can add mythical child-snatching witches to your home. That's what happens in KUNTILANAK, the 2018 reboot of director Rizal Mantovani's long-running Indonesian horror franchise. This week, we go out for a nice dinner and explore the depths of human desperation and depravity in WOULD YOU RATHER, which may be the best film about grueling decisions involving life, death, and disfigurement that doesn't involve a clown puppet on a tricycle. This week for Thanksgiving, the gang pays a visit to cinema's favorite culinary villain in RED DRAGON, the third film in the Hannibal Lecter series. We'll discuss the film's efficacy as a procedural thriller, the 90s/2000s wave of forensic investigation dramas, and how this movie relates to The Silence of the Lambs. We'll also touch on the myriad other interpretations of the sordid tale of Francis Dolarhyde: the man who turned a cleft lip and an abusive grandmother into a successful career of home-invading, film-developing, wheelchair-burning, and painting-eating.

This week the gang gets into the Halloween spirit with Adam Sandler and all of his famous friends: it's time for HUBIE HALLOWEEN, the Netflix-original holiday comedy that has taken the world by storm. This week, the EHMON gang is joined by a real-life scientist to discuss the science-fiction horror/drama SPLICE, in which two (fictional) scientists violate ethics and laboratory best practices to create a horrifying but also adorable baby-animal-creature-monster-thing.
