Quick Tip #29 Don't Take It Personal
8 perc 143. rész Jessica Lauren

Have you ever been somewhere peacefully, minding your own damm business, and someone comes by and ruins it with their funky little attitude? Maybe it's the barista at the cafe that is serving more stank eye than coffee. Or a boss that lashes out for absolutely no reason.  What do you do? Cuss them out? You could, but why give your energy away like that?  Instead of stooping to their level, why not try not to take things so personally? I know it's easier said than done, but once you realize that everyone is dealing with their own baggage, drama, and trauma that has nothing to do with you, you stop reacting to their mess and can protect your peace. Check out today's #QuickTip to learn more.

42 perc 142. rész Jessica Lauren

Can you believe that we're three whole months through 2021? How are things going? Those goals you had way back in January are you still working on them? Listen, you're not the only one that has thought long and hard about throwing in the towel. I have been tempted to call it quits on many a day. Why? Because work is kicking my butt, the pandemic is working my nerves, and I'm just tired af. As much as I'd love to chuck up the deuces. I just can't. There is something deep within that is pushing me to #KeepGoing. I know for a fact that God didn't give me these dreams of mine for the heck of it. Am I tired? Yes! Do I need a break? Absolutely! But quitting, that ain't in the stars for me, and neither is it for you. Today's message is for all of us #GoalGetters that are tired of working so hard for minimal results. For those of us that are burnt all the way out. As tempting as it is to quit that just ain’t the answer. So stay tuned if you need a little bit of a kick in the pants to get back in the game and finish strong.

Ok, so when I signed up for swimming lessons, you know what I wanted? Well, to learn how to swim! What did I get? Episode No. 112 Creating Content Series: Building Community With Siobhan Sudberry
38 perc 138. rész Jessica Lauren

I love blogging and podcasting, but truth be told, content creation can be a little lonely. Once you do the work and hit publish, that's pretty much it. For the most part, the conversation and connection kind of stops there.  Now don't get me wrong, there are direct messages, comments, and reviews. But at the end of the day, the work can feel very one-sided.

Recently I've been feeling the urge to open the conversation up. To come from behind the mic, share the spotlight, and start cultivating a sense of community. Now y'all know that my big goal is to help goal getters ditch the excuses, do the work, and make ish happen! But I've also been wanting to help #Goalgetters everywhere connect with other like-minded peeps so that they can find their accountability partners, business besties, and forever friends. And after talking to some of my OG creator and business friends, I'm not alone. After being isolated for a solid year during the pandemic, I think everyone is searching for some sense of community.

So how do you do it? How do you build a community that supports your audience or customers beyond your content? In today's episode, community cultivator Siobhan Sudberry breaks down how she started her thriving membership community, The BeFree Inner Circle, and how it's changed the game for her audience, life, and business.

Episode No. 111 How To Get More Eyes On Your Work + Business Using SEO With Tamara Sykes
68 perc 137. rész Jessica Lauren

You've done all of the work. You conjured up the courage to stop playing small and put yourself out there. So you grabbed your trusty laptop, made a content calendar, and hit publish on your ish. Now what? How do you get eyes on your content, service, or business?

Social media? Sure! Social media has been a great way to make money and grow an audience. But what if I told you there was an easier way? That you don't have to spend all of your extra free time making reels, stories, and lives? That you could optimize your work by being intentional about the keywords you use so search engines can show your work to your ideal audience. Sounds too good to be true, right? Well, it isn't! SEO (Search Engine Optimization) can help you get your content or business right in front of the very people you're trying to serve.

Is it a little intimidating? Yeah, because there's a bit of strategy you need to employ to play the SEO game. And that's why I've invited SEO expert Tamara Sykes to the show. She's decoding all things SEO and showing you how easy it is to get more clients, more sales, more views, and more die-hard fans.

Quick Tip #26 Create A Workflow + Don't Make The Same Mistake I Did
8 perc 136. rész Jessica Lauren

What's a workflow? Basically, it's a checklist that breaks down your creative process into smaller steps. I keep my workflow in Trello and use it for every single piece of content I make.  So why do you need one? When you create content on the regular, it's super easy to miss a step. Whenever I don't use my workflow, I forget to upload audio files to my podcast host or create Pinterest graphics for episodes. Having a workflow or checklist on hand helps minimize mistakes, keeps you on task, and establishes a standard for your work. In today's Quick Tip, I'm sharing how to create a workflow and how to use it so you can avoid the same mistake I made recently.

Episode No. 108 How To Speak Up For Yourself + Have Tough Conversations
74 perc 131. rész Jessica Lauren

Okay, time for a little bit of an experiment.

Raise your hand if you like confrontation.

Okay, now raise your hand if you like hurting other people's feelings.

Hmm, very interesting, no hands.

Okay, how about this? Raise your hand if it's super easy for you to express that you're disappointed with someone you love.

See that? Not a single hand was raised. Why? Because most of us recovering people pleasers HATE being real about our not so perfect feelings and having tough conversations with those we love.

And I'm not talking about just regular old-- "I'm sorry, but I can't make it the party"-- conversations. I'm talking about those heart to heart, "this may hurt you more than it hurts me"-- conversations.

You know the ones I'm talking about; the conversations where you have to admit to your very best friend that they hurt your feelings and you just can't shake it. Or that you've been feeling neglected in your relationship. Or perhaps your parents seem to support your siblings more than you.

So what do we (recovering people pleasers) have the tendency to do? We play small, stay quiet, suppress our feelings, and shut down. We'd much rather keep the supposed peace by not speaking our minds or standing up for ourselves.

Our efforts to not rock the boat and keep the peace winds up doing more harm than good. When we don't speak up for ourselves and honor our feelings, we subconsciously tell ourselves that our experiences don't matter. That other's people's wellness and comfort are more important than our own. It's a deep self-betrayal that causes resentment, low self-worth, and disrespect of our own souls. Damn, that's deep, ain't it?

So what should we do? How the heck do you speak up for yourself when you've been being nice and playing silent for so long? Well, that's what we're going to figure out together in today's episode; we're digging deep to explore how to stop hiding, speak up and tackle challenging conversations.

Episode No. 107 Conquering The Fear Of Posting On Social Media
34 perc 129. rész Jessica Lauren

Back in the day, social media was easy as hell. You just took a random blurry picture, uploaded it, and went on about your business. Now? Well, now so much thought and energy goes into social media.

I mean, there is a lot to consider. There are algorithms, hashtags, and a mysterious shadow ban. You have to come up with mic drop moments in your captions and curate an aesthetic on the regular.

There's Dm's and reels, and stories and lives. Haters, trolls, supporters, and spectators.   It's ALOT and what used to be fun and organic now feels like the type of work cut out for the marketing execs at Sterling Cooper (yes, that's a Mad Men reference), and guess what? All of those moving pieces (the likes or lack thereof) can do a number on your mental health and even your business. In fact, for a lot of us, posting on social media can trigger major anxiety.

In the past few #QuickTip episodes, I've been encouraging every #GoalGetter to stop hiding, step into the spotlight and show off your work. But how? How the hell do you work up the nerve to post when posting gives you a legit panic attack? Well, in today's episode, I'm sharing some simple ways to help you feel the fear and do it anyway!

Episode No. 106 Trusting The Pivot With Tatiana Muse
42 perc 128. rész Jessica Lauren

After graduating from college, Tatiana had big dreams of moving to the Big Apple and becoming a superstar singer. Want to know what actually happened? Well, not that. After graduating, she didn't have much luck breaking into the ultra-competitive music industry.  Short on cash and her dream fading fast behind her, she got all the odd jobs to make ends meet. We're talking everything from an ice cream scooper at Cold Stone to a cleaning job to being a rep at a collection agency. Not so glamourous, right?

Broke, busted, and disgusted, Tatiana decided to leave Cleveland and move down South with her Grandma. After a random visit to church, Tatiana realized that she was called for more.

So she took the leap of faith, started a photography business, and fell in love with entrepreneurship. Now she has a thriving stationery business, a faithful online community, and a coaching program that helps other women step into their zones of geniuses. In today's episode, we're talking about how trusting the process (even when it doesn't make any sense) can be the best move you can make in your life and business.

Episode No. 105 The Truth About Being Nice — Is It Doing More Harm Than Good?
44 perc 126. rész Jessica Lauren

Want to know the definition of the word nice? Well, According to Merriam Webster, being nice is to be polite or kind. That means holding the elevator for someone when you see them rushing to get on. Or merely saying a quick hello when you pass someone in the grocery store. Pretty simple right?  Well, yes, but no.

You see, some of us (hello, my recovering people pleaser crew) seem to have missed the memo on what being nice actually means. We think that:

  •  Putting others needs and wants before our own
  • Saying yes when we want to say no
  • Not being honest about how we feel to avoid confrontation
  • Biting off way more than we can chew to help someone else out
  • Playing small and dimming our light, as not to outshine others

Is being nice. The truth? That 'ish ain't nice at all. Want to know what it is? It's called a people-pleasing. It's a defense mechanism that we've learned because we believe we have to earn love and acceptance. Deep right? Yep!

So how do you stop people-pleasing? How can you show up as a nice and kind person in this world without compromising your own well-being?  Is there a way to be supportive and show that you care without putting yourself second? Well, that's what we were talking about in today's episode. We're unraveling why we have a deep desire to be nice, people-pleasing, boundaries, and everything in between.

Topics Discussed:

  • The difference between being nice and being a people pleaser
  • The telltale signs of people-pleasing
  • Being okay with letting people down
  • Creating and sticking to your own boundaries
  • How to be a good (friend, mom, partner, employee) without putting yourself last

Episode No. 101 How My Views On Productivity Have Shifted Now That I Have A 9 to 5
42 perc 120. rész Jessica Lauren

I haven’t had a traditional nine to five since 2013. So for the past seven years, I've blessed with an abundance of unstructured free time. You see before Rona hit, I did a ton of freelance/production/ acting work that didn't necessarily require that I showed up to an office 40 hours a week. There were some weeks where I worked 14 hour days and others that I only worked a total of 12. So your girl had a whole helluva lot more free times on her hands than that of the average #GoalGetter.  With my free time I was able to:

  • Start a blog
  • Write five blog posts a week
  • Write a weekly newsletter
  • Have photoshoots
  • Have in real-life meetups
  • Create and edit a podcast
  • Coach clients
  • and all the other thangs that came with being a grown-ass adult with big dreams

And while I had all that free time I encouraged you to get your hustle on too. I'd say things like "Just wake up at 5 am and do the dream work" or " just stay up a few extra hours after work to dedicate to your craft." I meant well but the truth of the matter is that I was basking in the luxury of time not realizing that not everyone had access to it as I did.

That is until my ass got a full-time job this past March. Baby, I am singing an entirely different productivity tune now that my time isn't all nilly willy like it was in the past. All that hustle hard, stay up late, wake up early, do all the things, cross everything off your to-do list in 3 hours or less-- ish? Nah, I am NOT bout that life no more. My views on productivity have shifted big time. Balance? Not sure if that's a real thing. Working until the point of burnout and depression? Yep, not doing that anymore. Driving myself crazy trying to beat the Instagram Algorithm? Hell to the Nah!

Don't get me wrong, I'm still getting my hustle on but with more ease, grace, and enough room for me to honor not only my businesses needs but also those of my mind, body + soul. In today's episode, I'm sharing how I'm unlearning some of my old productivity beliefs.

There is a lot going on right now, I don't even have to tell you because if you know you KNOW. With everything that's been popping off lately we're all facing some new challenges or opportunities to expand if you're more a glass half full type of person.

There are new jobs, possible relocations, business opportunities,  blossoming relationships, etc. It's all exciting right? Well yeah until the worry sets in. And so I sit on the opportunity until it's no longer available to me. Bummer right? Right!

But what if, what if everything worked out? What if we spent that same amount of time and energy focusing on what all could go right? Episode No. 90 Creating Healthy Digital Habits + Boundaries
51 perc 100. rész Jessica Lauren

My phone is always in my hands. First thing in the morning, as I work, when I work out, and when I’m falling asleep,  I am super glued to my phone. And as you can imagine living like that is a total gift and a curse.

On one hand I get to stay connected with my family that's back in Detroit thanks to FaceTime. I've been blessed to meet so many incredible people, create a business, and share my voice with the world because of technology. But baby that curse? It's a CURSE!

My chronic phone, tv, computer, iPad usage is wearing your girl out. I'm always tired, always cranky, always comparing myself to others. I'm distracted and always feel like I'm running on empty.  Why? Well because chronic screen time use causes anxiety, depression, disturbances in concentration, and even sleeping.

And guess what? I am OVER IT!

I am over letting my phone control my life. So what did I do? I dug down deep and figured out why I was so attached to my phone. And guess what, it had a lot to do with avoiding the work that can get me closer to my dreams. Can you say #SelfSabotage? And then I created some digital boundaries for myself.

I haven't completely kicked my phone addiction to the curb but I am more intentional about how I use it and for how long. If you're tired of letting your phone dictate your moves and moods then it might be time to create some healthy digital habits + boundaries in your internet life. Episode No. 89 Am I Doing Enough?
45 perc 98. rész Jessica Lauren

Am I doing enough?”

“Why aren’t I further along?”

“Shouldn't I have accomplished more by now?”

“It's no big deal I only got 4 sales.”

Enough. More. Only. Further along. These are the words and phrases that get us #GoalGetters into a lot of trouble. It just happened to me last week. I was gearing up to celebrate No Real Jewelry's fifth anniversary when my inner critic came in like a damn wrecking ball and had me questioning EVERYTHING. (NRJ is my lifestyle blog btw if you’re new here.)

Homegirl had me sitting there wondering whether or not I had done enough in my business and life these past 5 years. Mind you, I pretty much accomplished everything that I had set out to achieve, and more but my inner critic just wouldn't let up.

She had me comparing myself to the bloggers + girl bosses that rake in millions of dollars, get millions of views, and have a million followers. I knew it was completely unfair of me to compare my journey to theirs but I did and I went down the whole-- I haven't done enough spiral.

After sulking and feeling sorry for myself for a couple of hours I had an aha moment. What does "enough" or "more" really mean for me? If I stop looking at what everybody else is doing haven't I done enough for me?

And so I started to think back and I realized that in five years I made my wildest dreams come true which means I've done more than enough!

And that my dear is when my pity party turned back into a celebration. You see when I stopped looking at other people's journeys as the standard or enough measuring stick, I realized that I am exactly where I need to be. If your inner critic has been throwing around the— enoughs, onlys and futher alongs— your way then today's episode is for you!

Episode No. 88 Why It's Good To Be Bad
38 perc 96. rész Jessica Lauren

Have you stumbled upon something that's kinda piqued your interest lately? Maybe you've been flirting around with the idea of learning a new language or taking a sexy Zoom dance class.  But you stopped yourself from taking the plunge because you thought; "Nah, I probably won't be good at it." You see us #GoalGetters don't play that “I’m not really all that great at that” game.

But what if I told you that there is incredible freedom in being bad and you’re missing out on it? No seriously hear me out. Have you been at a party and your auntie with no rhythm is in the corner dancing her heart away? She doesn’t care who’s judging her, if she's on beat or if she knows the latest Tik Tok Dance. She's in bliss baby even though she's bad to the bone. And when you look around everyone is starting to circle around her shouting; "Go head! Go, Auntie! Go Head! Go, Auntie!" Because no matter how bad Auntie is at twerking she's in her zone having so much fun and full peace!

In today's episode, I'm challenging you to do something that's completely counter-intuitive to the #GoalGetter movement-- I'm asking you to allow yourself to be good at being bad. Because just like auntie you deserve to do things that are fun and give you joy, whether you're good at it or not.

I know you’ve probably said an iteration of this at least a million times over the past few weeks:

“As soon as the city opens back up I’m going to— brunch with my besties, really go hard in my business, buy my dream home, take dating seriously, travel the seven seas, and make more money so that I’m never this broke af again.”

Corona has sucked big time, but the one gift she’s given us all is a moment to be still and examine what is and isn’t working in our lives. We've had to stop and ask ourselves that one big question-- "What do I truly want?" And because we’re all #SafeAtHome we’ve unknowingly been using one of the most supercharged tools in the manifesting game and that's tapping into our future selves.

You see, the more time that we spend visualizing our future selves, we increase our chances of actually making major ‘ish happen in every area of our lives. We begin to strategize, take action + manifest the people, places + things we truly want in our lives. The gag though is that you don’t have to wait for some far-out date to start doing the work. You can start making your wildest dreams come true by simply showing up as your future self, today. Learn more about the power of tapping into your future self in today’s episode.

Episode No. 85 Releasing Yourself From The Pressure Of Doing
39 perc 92. rész Jessica Lauren

For the past few weeks, I've been trying to do all the things. You should see my to-do list, it's hella long with home projects, blog updates, and business ideas. Your girl thought she was going to use this quarantine time to play catch up + get her hustle on. Did that happen? Absolutely NOT!

I had not a clue just how hard + how deeply the C-word would affect my mental health. Like most of us, I've been grappling with so many unexpected emotions that I had to sit my ass down somewhere. I tried my hardest to still myself and let me just be, but there was a huge part of me that felt incredibly guilty for not doing more.  There was this daily pressure that I kept putting on myself to do. To produce. Create. Strategize. Show up on Instagram. But I just couldn't do any of it. All I wanted to do was binge-watch Tiger King, sleep, eat, cry, pray, journal + FaceTime my homies. You know, all those very human things we tend to do when we're overwhelmed, mourning + and searching for comfort and answers.

The crazy thing is that I wasn't the only person that felt this pressure. Whenever I hopped on social media everyone on my timeline said that they felt guilty for not being in super productive, goal-getter mode. But I thought to myself “who the hell said we had to be "on" during this pandemic anyway? We're in uncharted territory here so why can't we rest? Why can't we chill? Why are we feeling bad for feeling scared? Why can't we just go to Instagram live parties + not feel guilty about it?

I have a pretty good idea why. It's because we've bought into this idea that we're machines. That we can push through, roll up our sleeves + do the work no matter what, even a global pandemic. Well, the earth ain't having it. Homegirl is forcing us to sit down, be still, stay home, catch up on sleep, and reflect. What she's not asking as to do? To be "on" and crossing 9 million things off of our to-do list, if we don't have the actual capacity to do so.

If you've been feeling super guilty for not coming up with a multimillion-dollar idea, or creating 19 blog posts, or not getting back into the shape of your life during COVID19 then today I'm sharing some ways that you can release the pressure of doing, so you can get back to taking care + honoring the whole of you. Yes, even the part of you that's been wearing the same PJs for the past 3 days.

Episode No. 83 What Is Manifesting + How Do You Do It?
64 perc 89. rész Jessica Lauren

One day, a couple of years ago, I was listening to an episode of The Being Boss Podcast. The hosts were talking about how they manifested a steady stream of dream clients, that paid dreamy money and kept their dream businesses thriving. I was intrigued. What the hell were they talking about? I mean I'd heard the word manifesting thrown around here and there. But never quite like this.

They talked about alignment and speaking things into existence. There was mention of energy and attracting the right people, places, and things. I sorta kinda got it, but it was all just a little too deep for me. Not in a bad way. I just couldn't quite wrap my head around manifesting and how to get it to work in my life.

That is until manifestation started creeping up in every conversation I had, tweet I read or podcast I listened to. If God was dropping hints, I finally started picking up on it. “Maybe it isn't a coincidence that I keep hearing this message”; I thought. So I started doing some detective work. I devoured all things manifesting. Books, podcasts, videos- EVERYTHING.

And at first, I'm not going to lie I was a little skeptical until it started working in my life. I'd think a thought, believe it with all of my heart, let it go and then poof--it'd appear. I was kinda surprised at how simple it was. When people talked about manifestation they made it so complicated. But at its core, I discovered that it’s about believing that you deserve the very goodness you desire.  In today's episode, I'm breaking down what manifesting is, how it works + how you can start making some of your wildest dreams come true!

I am a recovering people pleaser. In the past, if you ran up on me and invited me somewhere or asked me for a favor chances are I'd probably hurl an automatic "yes" at you. Not because I necessarily wanted to but because I thought it was the nice thing to do. As much as I wanted to be the "nice girl" I had to stop. I was in a chronic state of overwhelm + exhaustion all

I mean they have been in your corner throughout your life cheering you on and celebrating your accomplishments. But what do you do when your inner circle isn't really all that interested in being your customer, client or audience member?  Does that mean you give up or on your dreams? Absolutely NOT! In today's episode, we're going to talk about why it's so important to not take it personally if your friends and family don't support you in a way that you expect them to in your dream chase. Episode N0. 64 Nurturing The Relationship You Have With Yourself
55 perc 64. rész Jessica Lauren
[Tweet "The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself.”- Diane Von Furstenberg"]A few years ago I went through a pretty rough breakup and as I was trying to wrap my head around the whole ordeal I kept reading articles that told me to love myself. I feel a little silly admitting this but I'd sit back and be like "BUT HOW THOUGH?!" I did all the shopping, all the mani's and pedicures; but I still felt like crap. And so I began on a quest to discover what it truly meant to love myself. And what I've found over the years is that for me it has been more about nurturing the relationship that I have with myself and less about taking trips to the spa. Showing myself some love has looked a lot like unlearning my limiting beliefs and behaviors. Speaking up for myself when my natural tendency (a.k.a learned behavior) is to keep quiet because I don't want to ruffle any feathers. It's been validating my own emotions and opinions instead of searching for some outside source to do it. For the past few weeks, we've been talking a lot about our relationships with other people and I thought it was only fair that we spend some time chatting today the most important relationship we'll be in for the rest of our lives--the relationship with ourselves.Check Out Episode No. 64 Nurturing The Relationship You Have With YourselfTopics Discussed In Today’s Episode: How to start prioritizing your needs + desires Why it's so important to start cultivating the relationship you have with yourself Warning signs that you need to show yourself some love ASAP Dismantling limiting beliefs + enhancing your positive self-talk Respecting your own boundaries that you've set for yourself + not violating them any longerResources Mentioned In Today's Episode:  Grab your tickets to The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast Meetup + Coworking Session. When I first started No Real Jewelry back in 2015 I had a good, maybe 200 monthly readers, tops.  If you haven't guessed it by now that's pretty small. I ain't gonna lie I was tempted to throw in the whole towel because ya girl's ego was fragile. I mean being a beginner sucks sometimes right? You work so hard and have all these cool ideas only for 3 people to read it. Yikes!Well, luckily enough I shook my defeatist feels off and tapped into a mindset shift that has since helped me stay in the creative entrepreneurial game for nearly 4 years. Want to know my secret? Well, it might sound a little silly, but I acted liked Oprah. You see, Oprah runs a magazine (amongst other things, duh)  and my thought was-- "Hmm the blog is like an online magazine so why not run like it already has a million readers and paid sponsorships up the wahzoo?"

Exclusive networks, access to hella money and an ivy league degree can absolutely set you up for success. Ain't no doubt about that. But what if you don't have access to all of that? I can't believe that we made it to 50 episodes of The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast! You see when I started the podcast I was scared out of mind. I didn't know the first thing about podcasting or editing. I didn't have a ton of followers so I was afraid that no one would listen. It took me an entire YEAR to hit publish on Episode No. 1  because I was filled to the brim with self-doubt.I don't know how but eventually I pushed past all of the fear and I just launched. It was messy, scary and I felt like a complete idiot but I did it. Episode No. 1 aired on Dec. 3, 2017, and 163 people actually listened to it. I was shocked!

How do you know whether or not that the hesitation you feel is just your inner critic trying to make sure you stay nice and comfortable in your comfort zone or the fears you're feeling are valid concerns that need some careful thought and consideration?  Welp, today on The Sunday Jumpstart Podcast I'm sharing some tips that will help you determine whether or not you should take the leap of faith and say yes or listen to your gut and run for the hills. I know-- that word help made your skin crawl right? Trust me I get it! You've made it this far on your own, didn't you? So we have to learn how to step up, show up + shoot our shots in the midst of imperfection"]Hey, you. Yes, you waiting over there for the perfect moment. I have a bit of a newsflash for you. Your need for perfection is paralyzing you.I know, it's hard to hear. I get it. Trust me I do. You want your work to be it's absolute best. And ain't nothing wrong with that. But perhaps one of the reasons that you're stuck in your life and career is because you're using perfection as an excuse to not take action.I'm not judging. I do it all the time too. I won't shoot my shot + pitch to any big brands because I don't have the perfect amount of followers just yet. I won't produce that workshop I've been dreaming of for the past 3 years because I think maybe I need just one more conference, webinar, e-course or mastermind group under my belt to validate me. And then, and only then, can I start working on that goal I've been dreaming of. Sound familiar? We all do it. We wait until we're the perfect size, have the perfect credentials on our resumes, have the highest of degrees until we take the leap, ask big and show up boldly in our lives. But lately, I've been wondering what would happen if we stopped chasing perfect and instead choose to show up, do our best and still ask big when things aren't peachy keen. My guess? Overflow would happen. Promotions would happen. Art galleries would open. Graduations would be celebrated. In today's episode, we're exploring why it's important to ditch the need perfection + how to be our best selves even when life is messy, complicated and a little scary.Check Out Episode No. 28: “How To Stop Chasing Perfect In Your Life + Work.Resources Mentioned In Today’s Episode:Big Idea Food: A Weekly Devotional For Entrepreneurs, Side Hustlers + Dreamers By Marlena BanksMy Career Pivot From Acting To Creative EntrepreneurMartha Graham's Quote about not judging your work. Get Your Share On:[Tweet "You can't get better at anything you don't practice. Episode No. 26 Getting Comfortable Saying No.
38 perc 27. rész Jessica Lauren
[Tweet "You can say "No" and still be a good person. "]One of the main reasons that a lot of us #Goalgetters are exhausted, overwhelmed and completely burned out is because we have a hard time saying no. We want to be the best boss, momma, wife, student on this entire planet so we say yes to almost every request that comes our way. We don't like to disappoint or hurt anybody's feelings. So when folks ask questions like--can I borrow $200? It's a Yes. Can you plan my wedding for me? Yep! No problem!  Can you help me move across the country? Omg! I'm so happy you asked--yes, yes yes! Now ain’t nothing wrong with helping out and supporting our loved ones. Nothing wrong at all. The issue is OVERCOMMITTING!  We say yes to everybody and their momma that by the time it comes to our goals, our dreams and true desires we're too tired to give the things that we love and value our full attention. So in today's episode, we’re going to talk about getting comfortable saying the word no. I know it’s hard because we all want to show up and be the best friend, lover, momma, etc. But saying yes to everything out of sheer obligation is in no way sustainable and doesn’t allow us people pleasers (yep I'm one too) the space we need to rest, work on our own goals and enjoy the life we worked so hard to create. Topics Discussed In Today’s Episode: Determining your boundaries- how are you willing to show up for your friends and family? I love me a good to-do list. It seriously helps me stay focused and organized as I get my dream work on and popping. But lately, me and my to-do list haven't been getting along. It's become a major gift and curse. Why? Well because it’s NEVER ENDING. The very second I cross a task off of my list another 60 pop up leaving me feeling overwhelmed and super defeated. That is until I discovered the 1-3-5 Rule. The idea is pretty simple, instead of trying to get 100 things done in a day,  (which is dang near impossible) rule creator, Alex Cavoulacos, says we should focus on 1 big task (usually the big one we always try to avoid), 3 medium tasks and 5 small tasks. Y'all I implemented this rule this week and it changed the game for me big time! If you’ve been feeling like a prisoner to your to-do list then this episode is for you. Episode No. 24 How To Deal With Anxiety, Overwhelm + Your Inner Critc
46 perc 25. rész Jessica Lauren
Last month I took a break from my blog and biz because I was completely burned out. I took some time off to breathe, reconnect with my why and get my ish together. Taking that time off was the best decision I could've ever made but now that I am back in the game I’ve been struggling with some major anxiety. I don’t know what it is but I just haven’t been feeling like my bold, brave self. Lately when I sit down to start a project or do some dream work a sense of overwhelm and anxiety washes over me. Out of the clear blue sky, I’ve been afraid to hit publish, scared to show up on social media, second-guessing whether or not I should reach out to folks for partnerships and collabs. Which is so not like me. I'm usually front and center getting my dreams on and popping but lately, I've been playing small. I can't quite put my fingers on it but I think the reason that I'm having an anxiety flare up is that I'm at a point in my life and career where I am leveling up. I’ve been praying some mighty big prayers and taking some bold actions to match and my inner critic ain't having it.  She's been trying to punk me these past few weeks in order to keep me safe and sound in my comfort zone. I was letting her win for a second. That’s is until I was at home in my studio in the middle of a major meltdown and I asked myself a question that legit obliterated all of my anxiety and overwhelm. So if you’re like me and you’ve been letting fear, anxiety and your inner critic get the best of you-- check out today's episode. I’m going to share how I've been stopping anxiety dead in her little tracks and how I get back to doing the work God has purposed me to do. Topics Discussed In Today’s Episode: How to lovingly validate your inner critic's concerns and still leap out of your comfort zone. The two different types of fear: Yirah and Pachad. One you want to embrace while the other keeps you stuck. Learn the difference between the two. So I did what most aspiring young artists do-- I uprooted my life and moved away from my family and friends to pursue my acting career. I invested tens of thousands of dollars on headshots, classes, the whole nine. I went to audition after audition and heard hundreds of “Nos” until 2015. In 2015 my luck finally changed and I started booking major acting gigs, but guess what? I wasn't all that happy. You see, 2015 was also the same year that I started NoRealJewelry.Com and what started out as just a creative outlet for me quickly turned into my new found passion. My little blog showed me that there were other sides to me. I wasn’t just an actress like I thought I was my whole life. I discovered that deep down inside of me I was also a writer, a photographer, an encourager and many other things. So my dreams began to shift drastically. We get one of those bad babies and we run back into our comfort zones. I get it, rejection sucks big time. Trust me I know. I heard the word no for nine years straight before I booked my first professional acting gig. Instead of running away from that two letter word, I ran towards it. I committed myself to receiving 100 no's! I know it sounds crazy but if I had stopped the very first time I heard a no --I would not have landed a role on NBC's Chicago Fire or appeared in multiple national commercials.  If I had given up the first time a door was slammed in my face I would not be a blogger, podcast host, motivational speaker or creative entrepreneur. Available on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play Music + SoundcloudWhen it's time to focus on our goals, we have so many other things vying for our time + attention. Instagram notifications, Twitter, our family and friends. Distractions are everywhere and are constant while we are trying to focus. Even when using the pomodoro technique, as soon as that phone dings, our attention span is broken. As a result, we find our productivity is not where we want it to be.We can avoid getting bogged down with all the distractions by setting some boundaries around our dream work time. Tired of not getting stuff done? Try setting up some non-negotiable dream work hours. It's basically time that you set aside in your schedule to focus solely on the work you have to do to get you closer to your dreams. It's a time that you commit to focusing on your goals no matter what. For example, my non-negotiable dream work hours are every day from 6a-9a. I commit that time every single day to working on my business, the blog and the podcast. I don't care who calls, tweets, or texts me--for that block of time I am focused solely on the work that will be closer to my God-given dreams. Creating non-negotiable dream work hours helps me create boundaries so that distractions no longer hi-jack my productivity. If you’re struggling to stay focused, you get distracted easily or you’re having a hard time committing to your dream work, this episode is for you. This post contains affiliate links.  Which means if you decide to purchase an item that is linked I will receive a portion of the sales to help fund #NRJ! Episode No.1 Everything You Feel Isn’t The Truth
19 perc 1. rész Jessica Lauren

Available on iTunes + Soundcloud I don't know about you but there is a voice inside of me that says; "I can't". That voice plays on repeat all day. Everyday. It's loud and insistent and sometimes if I'm not careful, it swallows me up whole. I'll begin to believe it. It affects the way I run my business. Sometimes I won't hit "publish" on an article or pitch a sponsor because that voice will whisper; "Jess you're just not good enough". I'll stay in toxic relationships + friendships because that voice says; "Jess, this is as good as it's going to get because you are unworthy of love".Today on the very first episode of The Sunday Jump Start Podcast I'm talking about my struggle to tame my inner critic and how I finally learned that everything I feel isn't the truth. I share some tips and tricks for overcoming the constant tape of negativity that our inner critic likes to play and replay. I also show you why the inner critic isn't actually all that bad.
